September 13, 200718 yr I just upgraded to 4.2.4beta and so far so good! Had to stop the array to enable the user share just like Joe mentioned. Now, what I've discovered today is that I'm able to upgrade wiithout physically touching the NAS Server or the USB Flash Memory Stick. Yeah how cool is that, especially if you're not in the same room as the NAS of it's no longer cumbersome to pull the NAS server out to and get to the Flash. Mine is mounted in the garage so I always waited until the weekend to pull it down to upgrade but no longer a need to be physically in front of the hardware. - I turned on export r/w on flash share and I dumped the core files in the flash folder and reboot using the web menu. That was it. I wanted to do this a long time ago but the flash folder didn't show any files so i wasn't sure if this method would work but it does. At the same time, I have a feeling everyone else knew about this except for me ... Upgrading to new revisions has gotten a hundred times easier using this method. Thanks for all the hard work getting the user share implemented... Mola
September 13, 200718 yr Thanks for the info! I just upgraded one of my servers last night and wondered if that would work, but had the same concerns as you. I chickened out and pulled the flash from the server and put it in laptop to update. I will definitely use this method in the future!
September 13, 200718 yr Even for those whose Unraids are conveniently located, this is a very good thing. By upgrading remotely, you eliminate the possibility of damaging your USB key when removing/reinserting it. Given our enormous dependence on the USB key's integrity, that is no small issue. Bill
September 14, 200718 yr the files don't show, except for maybe one or two, because windows explorer default settings HIDE hidden and system files. This is to keep you away from critical files (don't see them, probably won't mess with them). My NAS is about 10 feet away, but it's great not to have to crane around to the back of it to get to the key, etc. Also a good point was made about avoiding wear and tear on the USB key hardware AND the USB port. I keep my flash exported R/W hidden.
