(Solved) My VM is now saying unknown vendor???

I have had this VM up and running and doing great. I wanted to pass through USB and I was following a SI video....however from the looks of it, based on the forum, that video process may be outdated and no longer work. Anyway, it wasn't working so I removed the text snipped out of the flash drive section and put all my template back to how it was before.

 

Anyway, now I have my template just as it was before trying to change USB stuff around, when it was working great, but when I go to update it I get a "internal error: unknown pci source type 'vendor'" and it wont create.

 

I'm not sure what has happened to make it do this. If possible I'd like to fix it rather than deleting the VM and starting over from scratch.. Starting from scratch will have me reinstalling Windows, app installs, driver installs, setting, ect.....a lot of work, so hoping I can salvage it instead of having to start over from scratch.

Also, I am super new to this kind of computer stuff. I can follow directions well, but I dont know what any of this stuff is really doing behind the scenes.

 

I was going to past my template XML here but I dont know how to do it where it keeps all the coloring. When I copy/paste it is all grey and doesnt bring over the line numbers to reference. I marked red the only place I see that talks about a vendor.

Nevermind, I figured it out. I had put in a USB drive to see what group a particular usn port was in and I started the VM with the usb stick passed through to see if it would get the port working in Windows. It did bring the usb stick up in Explorer and let me use it, but then I removed the stick to see if a controller would work in the port.  When I turned off the VM and restarted it the usb stick was no longer showing up since it wasnt plugged in, but I guess it was still in the XML.

 

Anyway, I plugged in the USB stick, then it let me create the VM. Then I made sure it was not checked in the template, then removed the USB stick, it left the template, then it allowed me to be able to create the VM again.

 

So I'm all good now!

I was experiencing the same problem yet it was a completely different solution.   I had a Win10 VM running and had my NVIDIA 1660 card passed thru to it and things were working fine and then one day it wouldn't start.  Vendor unknown was among the problem I was experiencing.  The short of it was when I first learned about Unraid, they said you could disconnect everything from the box and set it in a corner... and that works... unless you want to run VM's.

 

When I was having problems passing thru the GPU, I tried to put it back to bread and butter and then I started getting USB errors.  My problem was the disconnected keyboard and mouse.  The VM would not run in any form with no keyboard or mouse.  Once I hooked them back up, I was able to return to the GPU passthrough config and everything is working again.    It's really strange how the bottlenecking error was that of an unknown PCI vendor and not the USB while in GPU passthrough mode.
