unRAID using more supported Distro?

Featured Replies

Any plans for unRAID to go with a more current and supported linux distro then slackware (I use to be a slack lover, but fedora/debian have got it beat for updates/patches/ and MAINLY SUPPORT for HARDWARE!!!!)

No is probably the easiest answer (although not a definitive one)

unRAID so far is more of a firmware. The fact we get access to the firmware and its Linux is cool and all but its still really just a firmware.

Personally i cant see it happening any time in the short to medium term as supported by the roadmap.

The next 5.0 beta 3 series will be rebased on Slackware 13.0 or 13.1. That should improve the hardware support by a good portion. I'm very pleased with the level of support and patches that Slackware Current (13.1) has.

However, you're free to attempt to follow the various installing unRAID on a full Slackware distro as the basis for getting unRAID running on your own fedora/debian distro. The main issue you will run into is the location emhttp/shfs expects certain files to be at, most likely the /etc/rc.d or /etc/samba files.
