Backup a VM that use SSD passthrough

Hi,

New to unraid here. I just created and configured a Windows 10 VM and I would like to back it up, so that I can restore it to the current state if I ever needs to re-install. This VM does not use a vDisk, it is installed directly on a dedicated SSD. Is there a way to take a backup of the SSD on my array so that I could eventually restore this backup to the SSD if I need to?

Thanks,

You could create an image with dd (with the VM off).

I had not tough about this. That's not a bad idea, however there is an important drawback. My SSD is 1 TB in size, but only 43 Gb is currently used. My understanding of how DD works is that it will copy all the unused space and create a 1 TB image while instead of 43 Gb.

Is there a way another option that would allow me to create an image that is more similar to the used space size than the whole drive?
