January 27, 201115 yr Any problems with unRAID and these boards? Here are the specs: Processor Socket: AMD Processor Interface: Socket AM2+ Additional Technologies: RoHS Compliant Northbridge: AMD 740G Southbridge: SB700 Memory Type: DDR2 Video Chipset: Integrated LAN Type: 10/100 Mbps Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s Headers: 6 Anyone have any issues with this chipset?
January 27, 201115 yr I'm guessing you just have one of these laying around? No issues that I see except that there's no built-in gigabit LAN. You could add a GigE PCI card for about $30. Definitely don't buy one of these new, they are too old to be worth much. Everything should work, though.
January 27, 201115 yr I've been running one for a few years now, it was cheap and available. You want a gigE ethernet port though and it's getting old. Peter
January 28, 201115 yr The Intel Pro/1000 Desktop GT network adapter can usually be bought on ebay for $20 delivered. I have several, they perform very well.
January 28, 201115 yr Author Gig-E cards I have, but my current mobo has no onboard SATA, so I'm running all my 5 drives on two SiS PCI adapters. I haven't got a lot of dough to blow on gear right now, so that's why the six onboard SATA connectors appealed to me. This board is like $30 brand new right now, $78 with a CPU. So I figured I could just toss in a PCI Gig-E card for now...
January 28, 201115 yr True, that will work. But instead of investing in old hardware, you might want to just shop around for a $50 - $60 board with embedded GigE. Search eBay for the Biostar A760G M2+. I also know of a reseller in Northern California - ChipsdigitalPC. I just bought three of these boards from them. I'm considering buying their last two as well, but I suppose I can let you have one

This motherboard is based on AMD740G chipset and is the lowest power consumption one in the recent 7xx/8xx line. I do not know what do you want to do with your server, but if it is only storage take a look at the AMD 2650e CPU - available on Ebay for $20. A motherboard based on 740G plus AMD2650e with large passive heatsink will be the absolute power miser and it could rival the Atom based one and at the same time being faster in the single core operation. Where can you get one brand new for $30? (PM is fine too)
January 28, 201115 yr Just to be clear, mine is gigE onboard. Check the specs, they probably still are. Peter
