  • [6.12.8] Parity drive won't start, no error

    • Closed

My array was fine this morning and I came back tonight and the parity drive now shows as stopped:

Trying to spin it up doesn't do anything (the icon remains as is). The server logs only show this:

Feb 21 18:52:15 Tower emhttpd: spinning down /dev/sda
Feb 21 18:52:22 Tower emhttpd: spinning up /dev/sda
Feb 21 18:52:29 Tower emhttpd: read SMART /dev/sda
Feb 21 19:12:33 Tower emhttpd: spinning down /dev/sda
Feb 21 19:12:35 Tower emhttpd: spinning up /dev/sda
Feb 21 19:12:39 Tower emhttpd: read SMART /dev/sda

I am attaching a diagnostic files as well as a SMART test for the drive.

I tried to reboot, but with no luck. I am fairly Unraid noob, please excuse me if this is a dumb problem or if I am missing obvious things I am supposed to provide for you to help.

    Thank you,

Once you get the red ‘x’ which means a write to it failed for some reason and the data disks and parity are no longer in sync then Unraid stops using the drive until the status is cleared by a rebuild as documented here in the online documentation.

could not spot any issues in the SMART report in the logs but you could run an extended SMART test if you want to be sure.  By far the commonest cause of this type of issue is the cabling (either power or sata) not being perfectly seated so you might want to check that out.
