I have the docker settings for 

UMASK=000, PUID=99, PGID=100

 

However when synchthing syncs the files from my seedbox to unraid the folders are created with the following permissions

 

drwxr-xr-x 1 nobody users 

 

I cannot modify the files in the folder when i access from a SMB share because of the permissions. If I SSH to my server and run a 

chmod -R 0777 foldername

 

I will then be able to modify the files in the folder that were synced by the docker container.

 

Would you be able to help?

Hi i recently made all my shares private and afterwards any new folders / files cannot be modified from my samba share that are created by docker containers.

 

This is occurring for all my docker containers which create files on my unraid server. I checked and all my

 PGID=100, PUID=99 , UMASK=000

seem to be correct for the dockers in question.

 

This is the permissions that the files / folders get created as 

drwxr-xr-x 1 nobody users 

 

If i run a chmod -R 0777 on the directory i can then modify my files from the samba share. Any one have any ideas ive been reading and searching the forums for a couple of hours now and cant figure out how to fix it

 

The correct permissions needed seem to be 

drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users

Hi,

 

I received a notification with the following error on one of my disks

 

Disk 5 - (sdb) - active 29 C (disk has read errors) [NOK],

 

I stopped the array and ran an extensive SMART report on the disk 5, and the status is COMPLETED WITHOUT ERRORS.

 

Is my disk ok? The disk shows green when the array is online with a healthy status.

When you say this are you suggesting it would be much quicker to perform a copy instead of a move using unBalance, then format to XFS?

 

Also was this formatting procedure correct

1) Stop the Array

2) Go to Disk Details and change File system type, from reiserfs to xfs

3) Start the array, the disk should show in not able to mount

4) Format the unmountable disk

Hi,

 

I was planning on performing a filesystem conversion from reiserfs to xfs. I watched a video on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPPnY3jbRKg) and read the wiki and understand the process for the most part. However the video i watched did not maintain parity throughout the process, and from reading the wiki it seems like its possible to do so. From my understanding what i need to do is the following to maintain parity throughout the conversion process.

 

1) Make sure each share has 0 exclusions for drives and has inclusions for ALL drives in the array

2) Use unbalance to move the data from a reiserfs drive to the formatted xfs drive in the array

3) After moving all the data off the reiserfs drive stop the array and format the reiserfs to xfs. Im a little bit fuzzy on this step as the wiki didnt go into much detail on how to exactly do this. But would I just stop the array go to the disk details for the HD that I moved all the data off of? And then change the filesystem type to xfs, then start the array back up? From there i believe it lets you format the disk? I was just assuming after formatting i would need to rebuild parity.

 

Another question I have is the wiki mentions stopping the user shares. Do i just do that by going to each individual one and putting them as export = NO?

The wiki also references stopping this APP Backup plugin, however im not sure where that is? 

 

Here is a screenshot of the array, I have moved off all of the 500gb to the the 3tb xfs disk. I was planning on moving one of the 2tb's off to the 3tb then formatting them using the method above.  Does that sound correct?

Hi I precleared and added a new drive into my array on older hardware about a week ago. The drive had been working fine, however today i started moving data using the unbalance plugin to the new disk so i can format my old drives in the array from reiserfs to xfs. When doing this i noticed the UDMA CRC error count quickly start to rise. Because of this i stopped the process of unbalance and shutdown the server. I then reconnected the sata cable from my HBA controller to the hard drive. Afterwards I started moving a small set of data to test if the UDMA CRC error count would increase again but it hasnt. 

 

The UDMA CRC error count of went from 0 to 40 really quickly before i reconnected the sata cable. below is a snippet of the SMART report that looks concerning to me

[Upgrading Old Unraid Server]

@trurl @JorgeB,

 

I installed the SAS card on my old motherboard however i noticed i didn't have enough SATA power cables on my old PSU. I booted up with the SAS card connected but no drives and everything booted up fine. Next in order to test if the SAS card worked i used the SATA from my breakout cable to an existing HD in the array.  After this i was unable to get the server to boot up. Once i switched the cables back basically putting the harddrive sata cable to the mobo i was able to boot up once. I then reseated the card tried everything again and after this i am unable to get unraid to boot anymore.

 

any ideas? should i just remove the card to make sure its not causing any problems? thanks

 

UPDATES:

removed the SAS card and still cannot get unraid to boot. just see a black screen on my monitor now when i start up

 

I removed the unraid flash drive and was able to see the BIOS POST. Once i put my usb thumbdrive back in the screen just stays black, and i cant tell if unraid is booting up or not

 

Used the unraid thumbdrive to boot up with the hardware i want to migrate all the datadrives to and everything booted up properly and quickly. Should i just move all the data drives over?

 

UPDATE 2: WORKING NOW

 

I am up and running the old mobo i have was having trouble with the new monitor i have so couldnt see that the mobo was POSTing everytime. when i connected motherboard to a diff monitor i was able to see that the motherboard wasnt using the unraid drive to boot anymore.

I finally upgraded to unraid 6.8.3 and everything is running smoothly. I had a quick question as my array is nearly full and I am wondering what you all would do? I can only think of two ways to expand my array and start the conversion process to xfs. 

 

The options I see are as follows

1. Copy of the contents of a 500gb drive in the array then copy it to an external HD. Once that is done replace the drive with a 3tb one i have and format it to xfs. Then copy the 500gb contents to the newly formatted drive

2. Using the new SAS card connect the 3tb drive and preclear the drive, and format it to xfs. Expand the array and move data around formatting each drive to xfs until all are done.

 

I think option 2 makes the most sense? unless there is another option i am missing?

 

Also in terms of testing unraid on the new core hardware i plan to move it to, is it possible to test with another flash drive just to make sure everything is working properly before moving over my data disks? If so how would I do that?

Ahh ok just to be sure i understand correctly i should do the following

 

1. Upgrade to unraid 6.8.3

2. Boot into new unraid version, run permission checker and assign drives

3. Make sure shares and everything are working properly

 

Start converting drives to XFS Filesystem by doing the following

1. Select largest drive and copy all the data to a destination drive (using unassigned devices plugin)

2. Format the drive which was copied to XFS Filesystem(This will wipe the data on the drive being formatted)

3. Copy the data back to the newly XFS formatted drive

 

I would keep repeating the steps until all the drives get converted to XFS.

 

Once this is all done then i would worry about upgrading the mobo and CPU and moving the unraid data drives to the new case?
 

As for the sata expansion for the new hardware, this is a card that is recommended?

thanks for the input, looks like i have some more reading to do, mainly with the sata expansion cards.

 

I have a spare brand new 3TB hard drive that i was going to replace out for a 500GB drive i have in the array. Could I use this drive to start converting reiserfs to xfs / btrfs? 

 

Also from reading the upgrade guide to 6.8.3, it sounds like once i upgrade the reiserfs drives should still work with 6.8.3 and i can start formatting and converting the drives to the new file system overtime?

Hi I have some old parts laying around since I built a new PC, so I thought it would make sense to recycle these parts and upgrade the mobo / cpu of my super old unraid server.

 

My current unraid server

1. Unraid (5.0-4)
2. CPU -  AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 4400e @ 2.7 GHz
3. Mobo - ASUSTeK Computer INC. - M4A785-M
4. Memory 2GB

    5. Array config is 6 drives including a parity and cache drive

 

Recycled Parts

I had a question in terms of which sata expansion card to use since the mobo I have in the recycled parts do not have enough ports. In fact one of them is broken so only 4 available on the mobo itself.

 

The next question I had was what would be the safest way of upgrading without the loss of share config / or data? My initial thought was upgrading my current unraid server to 6.0. Once this is done I would then move the data drives to the new hardware and use the flash drive with the update unraid 6.0 and everything should boot properly with the data drives and shares configured?

I created a folder on Disk2 and tested to see if the splits were working the way they need to be and they are. I am going to be rsyncing from the disk1 and disk2 directory in order to have the servers synced properly

I currently created 3 shares Movies, Music, TV Shows with a split level of 1. My folders are set up as follows

 

Movies

.../Movie Name

...../Movie File

 

 

Music

.../Artist Name

....../Albums

...........Files

 

 

TV Shows

.../Series Name

....../Seasons

........../Files

 

 

When I issued the following command

rsync -rtuvP /mnt/user/Movies root@host:/mnt/user/Movies

 

I noticed rsync created all the movie folders first in the share and hence all the movies were placed only on disk 1, also I do not see the folders Movies, Music, Tv Shows on the target unraid server for disk2. Am I doing something wrong?

 

 

So I have two questions

 

One are my split levels working properly since the Movies, Tv Shows and Music folders were not created on disk2?

 

And

Should I run the rsync command from /mnt/disk1/Movies instead of /mnt/user/Movies?
