  1. Thanks, going to swap out today.
  2. so one of my drive has 3281 errors on it and every day it says failed health check. i ran a parity check and it came back with 0 errors, then a smart check on the drive also fine (it is an old 3TB though). I've bought 2 new 4TB drives to change it out and replace the other 3TB. what should i do before swapping the drives and is there a best way of doing it or just pull drives and let it rebuild? soos-diagnostics-20220218-0907.zip
  3. Hey so my motherboard was having lots of issues so i'm changing it out for a new one. Whilst i'm doing that i bought 2 m.2 drives one for cache and one for plex meta data/maybe other stuff. i bought a 10th gen intel so i assume an upgrade from 6.8.3 to 6.9.? is also necessary. here's a list of what i bought. MotherBoard: MSI Intel Z490-A PRO Intel 10th Gen ATX CPU: Intel Hex Core i5 10400 Comet Lake CPU Ram: Corsair 16GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2133MHz Memory Kit for Skylake NIC: Intel Gigabit Pro 1000CT PCI Express Gigabit Network Card OEM Cache: Samsung 500GB 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 3D V-NAND SSD SSD: Seagate BarraCuda 510 250GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD ( this is going to be for plex meta data) SATA Card: IO Crest 4 Port SATA III PCI-e 3.0 x1 Card Non-Raid with Low Profile Bracket ASMedia 1064 + cables Heres a list of my drives 1 x 4TB wd red parity 3 x 4TB wd red & 2 x 3TB wd red Array 1 x 250gb Cache ( will be changing this out for the 970 evo 500gb) 1 x 500gb sata ssd ( unassigned drive for use with a docker) Dockers plex, tatulie, qbit, No vm's are in use. So the actual question. How best to do this? shall i just put it all in upgrade OSv and then reconstruct system layout and rebuild meta data? ( put plex meta data in a new pool instead of unassigned drive?) Do i need to upgrade to 6.9.? as i bought a NIC card? Shall i back up anything and how do i do this? Just looking for a little guidance before i start. Many thanks for looking and any help is appreciated.
  4. So this is just a quick sanity check before i buy the parts £530. MotherBoard: MSI Intel Z490-A PRO Intel 10th Gen ATX CPU: Intel Hex Core i5 10400 Comet Lake CPU Ram: Corsair 16GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2133MHz Memory Kit for Skylake ( is this a good speed?) NIC: Intel Gigabit Pro 1000CT PCI Express Gigabit Network Card OEM ( as i want to stay on 6.8.3 for stability, convince me otherwise) Cache: Samsung 500GB 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 3D V-NAND SSD ( how do i change this over? Samsung magiccopy thing?) SSD: Seagate BarraCuda 510 250GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD ( this is just going to be for plex meta data) SATA Card: IO Crest 4 Port SATA III PCI-e 3.0 x1 Card Non-Raid with Low Profile Bracket ASMedia 1064 + cables So again this is just a check before i buy the parts tonight. Many thanks to the community for helping me out.
  5. Thanks for the help. Does this sound good? i5 cpu ( also what is quick sync and does this support it) & will this need a better cooler than stock? This Mobo (any ideas if the nic will work i think im running 6.8.3 ) 16Gb of corsair ram 2133 (unless 8Gb is sufficient) and the ASmedia 1064 card i didn't use the ipmi to be honest but the only way i can get the board boot is if all 3 Ethernet are connected even then it takes a while. Many thanks
  6. Did your board die? ( i think mine dies because of something with the ipmi) What do you mean by high speed?
  7. So my Asrock Rack C2750D4I Server Board Integrated Cpu Mini Itx is having a lot of issues. It will boot with enough playing but doesn't last for more than a day. So I've decided to just order new parts. I would like to do this as cheap as possible as long as it suits my needs with some head room for the future. I only use my sever as a Nas, plex server, and a few dockers but nothing too taxing. My current server has 8 drives connected but will be adding more as needed. I'm thinking of going Intel as i hear the integrated GPU's are really good for plex HW trans-coding. Here is what i'm thinking about buying. CPU: either I3 10100 Comet Lake or i5 10400 Comet Lake Motherboard: Pretty unsure about this TBH don't know whats different about them all. i would like 8 sata ports ( unless i go with a expansion card). I have a sever case so ATX or bigger is what i want. £100-£200 budget. If i do go with a sata expansion card could you recommend a good one? Ram: 16GB of DDR4 Corsair vengeance ( unsure what speed will give best stability) I also hear that with 10th gen Intel the ethernet ports don't work with current unraid is this true? if it is i think il just fork out to a 10G pcie card (then wait for ubiquiti to release a cheaper 10g rj45 switch haha). Any thoughts and recommendations are much appreciated.
  8. So im new to unraid. i did have a freenas sever but found it to difficult to use. have now moved to unraid os my hardware currently is : Node 305 case 250w seasonic 2u psu asrock c2750d4i mobo/cpu ( ITX) 2 x 3TB WD red drive ( from freenas sever). 1 x 4TB WD red drive ( new going through pre clear) 1 x 500GB samsung 860 evo ssd 1 x 250GB samsung 840 evo ssd I'm going to add 3 more 4TB WD reds to the array. This means i need a new case, i want a rack mounted case ( don't have a rack yet but will do in future). I'm thinking about going for either https://www.servercase.co.uk/shop/server-cases/rackmount/4u-chassis/4u-server-case-w-24x-35-hot-swappable-satasas-drive-bays-6gbs-minisas-sc-4824s/ ( unsure if it supports itx though) or https://www.servercase.co.uk/shop/server-cases/rackmount/4u-chassis/4u-server-case-w-24x-35-hot-swappable-satasas-drive-bays-6gbs-minisas-550m-deep-sc-4324s/ (unsure if middle fans are 120 or hot swap as pictures show different to words) i will get 2 reverse mini sas to sata cable https://www.servercase.co.uk/shop/components/hdd-controllers/cables/startechcom-50cm-sff-8087-to-4x-sata---internal-mini-sas-to-sata-reverse-cable-sas8087s4r50/ i will be changing the mobo/cpu eventually but want to use unraid for a while before i do. also what size W psu should i get that will give me growing room for when i do add more drives/ newcpu/ card ect. Just wanting opinions before i click buy. Thanks for reading.
  9. Also just had a crash whilst using plex. had to reboot it. it didn't say why it crashed any ideas? soos-diagnostics-20200404-1951.zip
  10. Thanks here's the diag for all disks after extended smart test. soos-diagnostics-20200404-1841.zip also if my parity is already borked and disk 2 need changing do i stop the array to remove them? then re add the partity disk to the array as part of the array until i swap cases and disks? many thanks still a newbie.
  11. I'm doing a extended smart test on all the drives. will post diag when done. Is there a way to scheduled smart tests and how often should they be done? This weekend is basically me just testing Unraid, It seems very easy to use so i'm pretty much sold on it. i had planned on buying hardware and upgrading so i think i'll buy it now ready for the long weekend coming. so il buy 3 x 4TB wd red ( replace the dying one) i will also need a new case i'm thinking about https://www.servercase.co.uk/shop/server-cases/rackmount/4u-chassis/4u-server-case-w-24x-35-hot-swappable-satasas-drive-bays-6gbs-minisas-sc-4324/ I know its overkill for my needs but future proofing for further up grades. any other recommendations? will also change fans for noctuas and get reverse mini sas to sata cables.
  12. Thanks for catching it. the parity check finished last night. it came up with some notifications but i thought they would have been logged some where and closed them (still a newbie) soos-diagnostics-20200404-0924.zip Is this how i upload the Diag? Will run extended smart test on the disk now.
  13. Thanks so in short 62gb on array is normal along with 21.6 on cache ? and keep an eye on that disk and maybe check the sata cables?
  14. So i started my Unraid server today. Installation was very easy and it picked up all my hardware. My array consists of 4TB (new wd red) as parity 3 x 3TB drives (wd red from freenas build 2 years run time) as array. 500GB SSD samsung 860 evo as the Cache ( chose this one as its newer and crystalinfo said it had way less writes on it) 250GB SSD samsung 840 evo as unassigned. Its currently building parity it says it will take 7hrs to do. Everything is working from what i can tell but it has given me some errors First issue is one of the 3TB disks has errors. 509 of them in the main tab. S.M.A.R.T has highlighted this as the issue : 197 Current pending sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old age Always Never 9 also the array says its used 21GB on each drive (62.9GB in total) but i'm yet to put anything on it. is that normal? Second issue is the ssd cache drive also has errors. 0 errors on main tab. S.M.A.R.T has highlighted this as the issue : 199 CRC error count 0x003e 099 099 000 Old age Always Never 1 it also says the cache is using 22.6GB but again i haven't transferred anything ( or set up shares yet ) is this normal? This weekend i'm just going to be messing around with it before committing all my data to it. Thanks for any help.
  15. So i started my Unraid server today. First i changed out my 500gb & 250gb SSD's for 1TB in my main pc. ( also somehow broke cmos which meant it didn't post very annoying, fixed now) Installation was very easy and it picked up all my hardware, i also named my server Soos. My array consists of 4TB parity 3 x 3TB drives (wd red from freenas build about 6/7 years old) as array. S.M.A.R.T has highlighted this as the issue : 197 Current pending sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old age Always Never 9 also the array says its used 20gb but i'm yet to put anything on it. is that normal? Second issue is the ssd cache drive also has errors. 0 errors on main tab. S.M.A.R.T has highlighted this as the issue : 199 CRC error count 0x003e 099 099 000 Old age Always Never 1 it also says the cache is using 22.6GB but again i haven't transferred anything ( or set up shares yet ) is this normal? Thanks for any help. Also should i keep posting here or start posting in general support? (edit) i posted it there now as it feels more appropriate.
  16. Thanks, for the advice. I am currently backing up all my data and i will be starting my Unraid server tomorrow. I'm probably going to be messing around with it over the weekend before committing all my data and having it running properly. I still have some upgrades to my hardware to make but i think doing it over a month will help me see where to spend the money. I'm sure i'll be updating this with more questions But having some where to go for help makes it a lot less daunting thanks very much.
  17. Thanks, i was thinking about future proofing, but i also don't know much when it comes to unraid and how it works. I've bought the 1TB SSD now but might swap it out for a 250GB that's in my PC and just go with 2 x 250GB SSD's to start. Again thanks any tips are super useful. Just wondering is there any quick way to transfer data to the nas by directly connecting an external/internal drive? ( instead of being limited to 1Gbps eth) ?
  18. Thanks, ok so il start with one parity drive then add if/when needed. 4TB are only £100 where as 8TB are £250 12TB is £380 but parity is needed. i understand less HDD's means less failures. i do plan on getting a 16 bay case though. i will also get a Samsung evo 860 1TB ssd ( formatted btrfs) then get another one later to run as mirror raid 1 later. i have to upgrade case etc first. i think il back up over the week, then on the weekend get the ssd and 1 hdd and start trying it out before i fork out more for a proper system. Thanks for the tips they have been extremely useful.
  19. Thanks, i understand i have to get the data off, i have a 6TB external back up which is almost full which is why i'm making the change. I do intend on adding more HDD's as and when needed, could i set up dual parity later on or does it need to be done at the start of the array? also with the cache drive (ssd) can i start with one then add a second in raid 1 later on? Again many thanks with my newbie questions.
  20. Many thanks, When i do this and upgrade my HDD's to 3 x 3TB & 3 x 4TB if i use two disks for parity i assume it will use 2 x 4TB for this?
  21. Hello, im new to unraid. So i have a freenas build at the moment but im wanting to change to UnRaid. The reason i want to change is freenas is difficult to use (for me) & im soon to run out of space. My Current rig is 3 x 3TB HDD WD RED (raid 0 backed up monthly) , AsRock c2750d4i , 16GB DDR3 ECC Ram , 200/300w 1/2U PSU ( cant remember) , Fractal 305 node. Is the Intel C2750 enough for Unraid with plex in a docker, maybe a qbitorent docker? I mostly play direct but occasionally transcode on phone or if upload is limited ( it has transcoded 4k but did struggle with some of them) I am wanting to upgrade with 3 x 4TB HDD's, new case with hotswap , SSD's for Cache. dont want to upgrade mobo/cpu but will if need to just need to make a plan and budget. Thanks for taking the time to help.
