  1. Hmmm ... Normally unRAID will be displaying the disks it expects to be in the slot in italics and expecting you to assign that disk to that slot. Is that what you are seeing? It won't let you just assign disks to blank slots, unless you did an initconfig, in which case you'll be defining a new array and rebuilding parity. You shouldn't have to do that to update. A screenshot of what you are seeing might be helpful to answer your question. This was the case for just one data disk (+ parity and cache), the others are shown as new.
  2. I already created a new topic for this, but maybe I'll get the answer more quickly here: -------------------------- Hi all, I just updated my unRAID build from 5b4 to 5b8b, but stupidly forgot to make a screendump of the array/disk configuration, and now it's lost. I know the parity and cache disk, and unRAID seems to recognize one disk. But all other disks show up as new (blue bubble). Is it safe to assign those data disks to new slots and starting the array, without loss of data? Thanks!

  4. I'm really curious how you worked around those hidden afp files being created on every folder you visit... You mean the .DS_Store and ._ files? Because there is no way around that. It is something that Mac OS X does and you can stop it from doing it to network drives, but there is nothing the server can do to stop it. I did create an unMenu package that removes these files from the server and it is set up as a cron job to run as much or as little as a user likes. No, those are different. The Netatalk daemon stores little helper files in every folder you visit. When you visit a folder on a disk that is part of user folder that spans multiple disks, those helper files will eventually be created on every disk in that user folder. But because that folder spans multiple disks, the shfs command will see multiple instances of the same file in that folder and those will show up as errors/warnings in the log.

  6. Tom, have you thought about putting out a stable release with updated kernel and samba? Samba is stable at 3.5.6. Lot's of problems with Windows-7 have been fixed, and lots of connection timeout issues have been fixed too. (Slackware-current is also with samba-3.5.6) As for the kernel, any of these are stable... 2.6.33.7 2.6.34.7 2.6.35.9 2.6.36.1 ...and bring some nice speed improvements over the 2.6.32 kernel. Thanks! No, he has to put in AFP first
  7. Care to share your experiences? What about noise and vibration (resonance)?
  8. well... It's about the same size as two mid-towers glued side to side... And it only weighs 8.2 kgs
  9. Lian Li has it's own 4-in-3 (and even a 6-in-3 with 4x 3.5" and 2 x 2.5") bays that won't break your budget (about $30-35, depending on the model). With 30 drives, this is already way above the current maximum of 20 drives of unRAID. Maybe in the future, unRAID will expand to 22 drives, maybe even 24, but how long will it take to get to 30?
  10. Yes it is, but if you compare this to the popular Norco cases that are able to house the same or less drives, it's actually rather cheap. I found out it can even house 30 drives, if you get a special bracket that will fit one of the fan outlets. And most will agree this is a better looking case than a Norco rackmount, it can even be used as a small table
  11. On second thought, it's rather large...
  12. While browsing the internet looking for a replacement of my current unRAID case (Lian Li PC-A17), I came across a model by the same manufacturer I had never seen before: the Lian Li PC-343B Modular Cube Case. It has a whopping total of 18 5.25" bays, giving you a total of 24 drives.... See here for a review. Looks like I found my future proofed upgrade
  13. Thanks! My Airport Extreme only has 3 GBit ports, but it's exactly as much as I need. Adding a router behind it would claim a port that's already taken. Would it be possible to just have the "new" router connect wirelessly to the existing network and use it solely as a WOL device? I wish some manufacturer came up with such a device... a very small package connecting either through wireless or ethernet, with the sole purpose of waking up devices on a local network, with a nice, uncluttered web interface and possibly even a iPhone app. I'd buy it if it's < 20,00 EUR. (couldn't be that hard...)
  14. Since we're on the subject: I'm very satisfied with my Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band as a router, but it lacks WOL support and will not forward to my local broadcast address (192.168.1.255). I could replace it with a decent, but expensive, Netgear WNR3500L (with Tomato firmware), or buy the cheapest router I can find that supports Tomato and have a specific port on the Airport rerouted to the web interface of Tomato. Any suggestions on the "cheapest" Tomato-ready router?
  15. No, not yet... any idea when it might get updated Here's my updated package .conf: Edit: see Joe's post! (and thanks Joe )
  16. I think I found either a or the bug that causes the "unknown error" to appear and the inability to create thumbnails or watch video's. There's a line in the package that creates the path for ffmpeg, but there's an error in the path so the line is ommited. Original: PACKAGE_INSTALLATION echo "path.ffmpeg = "${PACKAGE_DIRECTORY}"/ffmpeg/ffmpeg" >> /test.properties Should be: PACKAGE_INSTALLATION echo "path.ffmpeg = ${PACKAGE_DIRECTORY}/ffmpeg/ffmpeg" >> "${PACKAGE_DIRECTORY}"/test.properties
  17. Hi Tom, If there's anything I can help you with concerning AFP, just let me know...
  18. Still haven't been able to test this, we're in the middle of moving to a new house, but I'm almost sure this is causing the problem. Have you been able to "fix" the package?
  19. AFP support is the main reason for the change in security model. This is awesome, Tom. Could you elaborate a bit on this? Will it still be a problem to have user shares over AFP?
  20. If you could try building ffmpeg from the command line and get the output that would be great!! It failed to build for me as well, but didn't really bother to look why and built ffmpeg manually. The good thing is that it is only required once Ow, and thanks again for this great package! I'm a quarter way through of Dragonball Z on my iPad
  21. Probably a permission issue. What owner and permissions are set for the (sub)folders? Edit: could also be case-sensitive issue. Are you sure the share is called "Movies" and not "movies"? What happens if you ls /mnt/user/Movies ?
  22. Anime:/mnt/user/Anime,TV Shows:/mnt/user/TV Shows,Movies:/mnt/user/Movies I have tried it also like this: Anime:/mnt/user/Anime,TV:/mnt/user/TV Shows,Movies:/mnt/user/Movies You're thinking any "illegal" characters cause the problem?
