  1. I setup a windows VM using one of my unassigned SSD drives and was having major issues installing Windows, or getting Windows updates to work. Then if I did these working, it was temporary because the VM would randomly shut down, and it was wildly unpredictable. I made the mistake of thinking that if I had a 1TB drive, I could assign 1TB of my freshly formatted SSD to my vdisk when setting up the VM. I took a closer look at my unassigned devices after about 5 tries and realized that something like 10-20GB of space was already allocated so I made the vdisk 950GB and it now works flawlessly. I'm very much an amateur with this stuff, so please let me know if I'm out to lunch but this seems like it would be easy enough to generate a warning that your vdisk is bigger than the available space on a drive. To be fair, it is probably obvious to most of you.
  2. Appreciate this reply. I decided to make a second attempt with these instructions. I didn't get the PIN login, and it asked for my email/pass, but somehow still worked. I have no clue.... thanks!
  3. Same exact issue. Tried everything I could find online.... just can't get it back.
  4. Confirmed. Parity sync/rebuild completed successfully this morning without any errors.
  5. It looks like either the safe mode or the repeat of the "New Config" did the trick. It is no longer hanging and I can pause and cancel the rebuild progress. I'm not sure if I'll be able to prove which one it was. I'll update the thread once the rebuild is complete.
  6. Hey thanks for the super quick reply. I left it going for about 45 minutes after freezing up all three times. I decided to repeat the "New Config" process and then put the system in safe mode and try again. I'm right in the middle of it now and I've already surpassed my previous best (I'm at 1.3%!). I'll come back later with an update either way.
  7. Hi, I am trying to remove two old 2TB drives and replace with new 8TB drives. Here's the rundown of what happened when I tried to do this. I just executed a "new config" by going to Tools->New. This completed without issue. After removing the two drives from their assignments (both drives were empty, so my array shrunk by two drives), I attempted to do a parity sync. The sync hangs at different values. 0.6%, 1.0%, 1.2%. I can't "pause" or "cancel" the parity sync. It just does nothing. I can't reboot the server or shutdown the server. Even from an SSH login using Putty. All Dockers, Plugins, and VMs are still usable, although I tried stopping them all just in case (made no difference). I can't access the shares from my Windows VM. I'm by no means proficient in Linux, but I've managed to make my Unraid server run for quite a few years without any big issues. This one has me stumped. Was I not supposed to remove two drives at once? I was under the impression this was fine, but maybe I misunderstood. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. tower-diagnostics-20220106-1527.zip
