  1. The only reason not to go with larger drives vs smaller is the parity check duration. On my systems (low-end microservers) the duration of a parity check is linearly proportional to the size of the parity drive. My 4TB system take 8Hrs, the 8TB takes 16Hrs, and the 12TB takes 24hrs. For me this is not a concern. If the parity check time is important to you, going from 3TB to 8TB (2.6 times longer) or 16TB (5.3 times longer) may be an extra consideration.
  2. Repeated with "unRAID OS GUI Safe Mode (no plugins)" and still got the error. Diags attached. scout-diagnostics-20200718-0059.zip
  3. The "Info" button, being between the "Feedback" and "Log" button on top line RHS of GUI, generates the summary System Information OK but also reports an error in the System Log. Repeatable. 4. "Wake On Lan" (WOL) wont "Network Scan", NMAP version issue. re: Wakeonlan (2019.01.25) , Unraid 6.7.x, 6.8.rc1 Hadn't needed to touch WOL since Unraid 6.6.7 because it just worked well (thanks). Recently had a need to use WOL's 'Network Scan' to add servers and found that it silently failed to scan. Investigating, found it uses 'nmap' for the scan. 'nmap -V' fails in the Unraid terminal due to missing /lib64/libssl.so.1 & /lib64/libcrypto.so.1 Unraid 6.7.x & 6.8rc now provides /lib64/libssl.so.1.1 & /lib64/libcrypto.so.1.1 Experimenting I creating a softlink between each of the libssl and libcrypto versions. This allowed NMAP (7.50) to work and the 'Network Scan' to function again. Such softlink's would need to be scripted to be applied each boot if continued to be used in this manner. Another plugin, 'Unassigned Devices' also uses NMAP, but ver 7.70. Unraid also loads this version each boot. Since Unraid loads plugins alphabetically the "Wakeonlan" loads next and Unraid overwrites the UD NMAP 7.70 with the WOL NMAP 7.50. Experimenting again, I renamed /config/plugins/wakeonlan.plg to /config/plugins/1wakeonlan.plg for it to load first and rebooted. WOL NMAP 7.50 was loaded first then overwriten by UD NMAP 7.70 as expected. Wakeonlan 'Network Scan' worked with NMAP 7.70 without any softlinks or apparent issues. Please revise "wakeonlan" to load NMAP 7.70 or a later version. The latest NMAP 7.80 was released in Aug 2019. Thank you.
  5. Hi, Wrong free space of Cache Only folder shares is reported when created by [ 6.7.0-RC8, RC7, other RC’s unknown]. Using RC8, create a new Cache Only folder share with other default settings. The created Share has a larger free space than the Cache drive. By definition this is not possible. Investigation indicated that the folder share is first created on Disk1 and this becomes the free space reported for the folder. Only when the folder share is first written to, is it then created on Cache. It is then on both Disk1 and Cache. The Mover behaves correctly and does not move the Cache files to Disk1. Repeating the above with 6.6.7 , a Cache Only folder share is directly created on the Cache drive and reports the true free space of the Cache. No redundant Disk1 share is created. This was the expected result. NB: In the RC8 Scout-Diagnostics, Cache Only folder share “Reports” has been created, but not yet written to, therefore exists only on Disk1 and is not yet on the Cache drive. scout-diagnostics-20190501-1153.zip
  6. I also was curious about the GUI drive status a while back. So I wrote a basic script to check on the spin states ever hour using both smartctrl and hdparm to a file. Eg smartctl -n standby /dev/sdg and hdparm -C /dev/sdg Summary Results smartctl hdparm Device is in ACTIVE or IDLE mode drive state is: active/idle Device is in IDLE_A mode drive state is: unknown Device is in IDLE_B mode drive state is: unknown Device is in STANDBY mode, exit(2) drive state is: standby I use 8TB (Archive) Seagate drives and discovered that Seagate’s are not either Active or Standby but have (Active, IDLE_A, IDLE_B, IDLE_C and Standby) states [reference “tp608-powerchoice-tech-provides-gb.pdf” ] The first three are full spin states with various electronic power savings. IDLE_C (SAS only) is a slow spin state. NB: Despite what the Seagate doc said, the drives seem to spend ‘hours’ in both IDLE_A and IDLE_B mode before entering “Standby” So the drives can be “not active” but also “full spin”, and if the GUI uses hdparm then also “unkown”.
  7. RC 6.6.0-rc2 Call Trace on Boot if Disk Setting has “Enable auto start” as No . scout-diagnostics-6-6-0-rc2_AutoStart(off)-CallTrace_20180908-2111.zip scout-diagnostics-6-6-0-rc2_AutoStart(on)-OK_220180908-2146.zip
  8. In regard to: “Another change: all so-called 'hidden' objects - files/directories beginning with dot '.' character - are shown when viewing shares and also visible via SMB. This makes it easier to see why a particular share is not "empty"” Stored with all my media shares (SMB) and sub-directories are a number of hidden (dot) folders of different uses. These will now become visible and compromise the aesthetics on my themed WDTV media players. The need for this change would appear to be an outlier “use case” for maintenance purposes. If it is required then please make it a switchable option in the GUI. Thank you.
