  3. Thanks, this info gives me a good place to start.
  4. Hi All, I am novice in unRaid so please excuse me asking basic questions. I have the free version of unRaid running 3 X 2TB drives running Unraid 5.0-rc8a for quite sometime now. This is great software and till date its been running without a single issue. However since I am running out of space I am planning to purchase pro version of the OS. I need help with the following, 1. My motherboard Asus P8B75-M LE has 6 SATA ports but i want to add more drives. My case can take upto 9 HDD but I am planning to get HDD cages to expand the storage more , say around 16 drives. How to expand my SATA ports in my mother board. If you could suggest expansion card it would be great. 2. The onboard Realtek 8111F-VB-CG gigabyte LAN controller is pathetic to say the least , can you please suggest a good NIC (intel?) which i can purchase 3. Should I continue with the current OS version or should I upgrade, I absolutely don't have any problem with the current verion. Also I live in India and i will not be able to buy the NIC card and SATA expansion from ebay.com since it will be problem to return/replace if there are any issues. But I can get it from other big sites from Amazon, newegg , tiger direct etc., Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.
  5. Finally solved the issue. As I mentioned got a new 2TB disk for Parity , precleared it twice and enabled parity. As soon as the parity build is completed unRaid reported that the array is "OK". Finally got to see Array Ok messages :-) Thanks for the help and suggestions....
  6. Sorry for bugging you all, but any suggestions? I tired resetting the config multiple times and still getting the same error message. My parity disk's preclear is in progress but I am not sure if that will solve the problem. As I mentioned earlier somehow the systems says there are 3 disks when there are one two... Need usenet info

Thanks a lot Shat, will do as you suggested !!!
  8. Thanks Joe, I did that couple of time already but still getting the same error message. I got a new 2TB HDD and preclearing it to add it as a Parity drive, hopefully this will stop the message. But Utils -> New Config did not help.... Please let me know if you can do something else, or i will wait for couple of days to get my preclear done and add parity drive...

    Need usenet info

Hi, I am new to usenet and started reading about it. Still too much to understand, from the experienced user can you please suggest me how to get started - Good usenet server : my download will be only >50GB/month with a 5 mbps connection - Good search engines - anyother tips If you can point me to a good article also it would be great. thanks a lot in advance !!!
  10. Thanks for the reassurance...sure will do...
  11. hey thanks, but I was wondering if adding a parity drive will fix the error I'm getting invalid/missing drive? Looks like something went wrong and unRaid is thinking I have 3 disks when there are only two. Unmenu keeps saying have 3 drives when there are two. Other than this no issues, array is starting without any issues... Anyone had this issue?
  12. Thanks a lot for the reply Joe. Yes before preclear I did assign the disk but not sure if I assigned them to parity or not. I tired clearing the current config from admin utility and add them back as two data disk. The array is starting and I am able to copy the files but I still get the error message stating "The unRaid array needs attention. One or more disks are disabled or invalid". Other than this I don't see any error message in Syslog other than some ACPI errors. How can get rid of this warning/error message notification? I use simple features and every time I log into the console it gives me this message. Also unMenu says there are 3 disks in array when I have only 2 data disks and no parity. I am thinking I will buy one more 2 TB disk and add it as parity? will this fix the problem. Please let me know and thanks again for your help....
  13. Hi, anyone.... I'm getting this message in syslog : Manitower kernel: md: disk0 removed...and mounting other two disks as disk1 and disk2....and my array is not starting, have to start it manually.
  14. Hi, I just started with my unRaid build and successfully completed preclear on my two 2TB WD Red HDD. I made both of them as a data disk and yet to get a hdd for parity. As soon as I added them as data drives I am getting "The unRaid array needs attention. One or more disks are disabled or invalid" error message. I started getting email notification which I have pasted below. I manually started the array and copied files and it seems to be working fine. But i do get the same warning when I log into the admin console (with simple features). I attaching the syslog with this, please let me know if I need to be worried. Thanks a bunch. 15. Hi, I am thinking of getting into usenet and all these while i was using direct downloads from file sharing sites. Since the recent shutdown I almost stopped downloading since i don't trust torrents. Then I came across binaries in Usenet but again the recent trend of indexer shutting down doesn't inspire any confident...can the regular user let me know if there is a future usenet (binaries) should I got for it? thanks for all your inputs
  16. Thanks , running another round of preclear on both the disks in parallel...
  17. Hi , my next 2TB WD Red first preclear just got completed and the reports looks fine. Can someone please check and confirm....thanks a lot for the help.... preclear_rpt.txt
  18. Thanks again, will do that. still 4 more hrs complete the first round...
  19. Thanks a lot Joe, sure I will go ahead and run another round of preclear...Can you please let me know how can i fix the issue I mentioned in another post (just above urs)...
  20. hi thanks for a quick reply, I think I made the mistake of adding both the drives to the array but not copied anything yet. Will this be an issue? Currently both disk1 and disk2 are red balled and showing "Missing"... Let me explain what I did. Before preclearing the disks I add them to the array and started the array. So disk1 and disk 2 got assigned. Then i unassigned them which stopped the error stating "Too many missing drives". Now I have precleared one disk and waiting for the other one to be done so that I can assign them back to the array... How do i fix my mistake? since you suggested 3 pre clear, I will wait for them to complete and then assign the drives? is that the the correct way? Please let me know and thanks a lot. Also what is the impact on total time to preclear if I do both the disks at the same time? I have 8 GB memory and not many plugins, will i run into any memory issues?
