So I have had this issue in the past but its cropped up again due to the frequent power outages we get in the area, I have installed an UPS but for those times the power is out for longer period of times the UPS doesn't always shut the unraid down like its supposed to. So I had around 4000 errors crop up on parity check and went ahead and ran another parity check with corrections applied, when it was done I didnt get a message like I did the first time this happened saying the errors were fixed so I went into the logs and could see some of them were but I cant tell for sure if they all were, I will run another parity check just in case but that will take at least 3 days so ive posted the diag down below if any one could give me a heads up if there is any thing else I should be doing, I figured Id run a checkdisk when all was said and done but will wait on that for now. tower-diagnostics-20230903-2326.zip

so last night I was backing up a large number of files before bed and when I woke I found my unraid server had some issues over night, most notably all the shares were gone and it was stuck trying to seen packets but unable to. I went ahead and restarted the unraid server and it all came back up but I'm wondering what caused this and if I need to do anything to see that it doesn't happen again or get worse. I'm still getting few packets failed but everything seems to be working still. So I've been running unraid for a few years now and have run into a few different problems along the way so I know enough to do a bit of research before jumping into anything big and as of late I've been wanting to upgrade my Dell R710 as it came standard with only the most minimal amount of ram compared to what it can handle and the CPU is about average for the time, plus given the fact the hardware for the socket and ddr3 is stupid cheap given how old they are I decided to go from 68g of ram to 288 and from a Intel® Xeon® CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz to a Matching Pair Intel Xeon X5690 3.46GHz 6.4GT/s 12MB 6 Cores 1333GHz LGA 1366 CPU. Now I know with windows when changing hardware normally everything goes smoothly, although when changing CPUs you might have to reenter your product activation key, or restart a number of times and double check updates for any missed drivers it didn't automatically download. Hard lessons learned on most of those, I'm wondering what I should do to prepare for doing this hardware upgrade on a unraid system. I've been skimming through old forum post about this topic and have seen a number of different issues that might arise from share folders getting out of whack to files no longer being assessable and really wanted to know if there is any walkthrough of things to do, a checklist so to speak of things to do both before and after to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible and to check for any problems after, before they become a real threat. Most of the threads I've seen seem to take about 24 hours after the install before they crop up so figured there has to be a better method then just sitting back and waiting to see if something goes wrong. Also would it be better to do a partial upgrade first, ie upgrade the ram and then wait a bit and then upgrade the CPUs or just do them all at the same time.

ran it again once it finished as the instruction said and it seems all is well now, gonna give it a day and keep checking to see if it runs smooth before I call it a win but thank you for all the help. I know this ones been a big pain. Is there anything I should do further or watch out for? I disabled the parity while all this was going on should I wait a bit before enabling it again? quick update it looks like all the files are still there but two folders, both the largest on the unraid that had video files are now empty except I can still go into the drives on unraid and go under the folders there and download the video files and they work they simply dont show up in the network section of the file folders any more

so looks like it rebuilt the two hard drives just fine this time, didnt find any errors like last time. I havent spun up any of the vm's or tried to access the information yet. going to try that next but ran a diag and took a screen shot as well. if there are any other precautions I should try let me know. Sorry for the delay in posting, had to wait for all the items to come in. I got two new power supplies and the two new hard drives, I replace the ones having the issues and they are now rebuilding. I haven't replaced any of the internal cables but did come across another used disk shelf for a low price so grabbed that one and if things don't work this time I can either cannibalize that one or if it would work simply transfer all the disk over to the new one and boot it up (not sure if unraid would have a problem with the new hardware even if the disk are all in the same location??) This may be a stupid question but when you refer to cables are you speaking of the QSFP SFF-8436 to SFF 8088 cable that connects the dell r710 to the Netapp DS4246 or are you talking about any cables within the Netapp DS4246 that connect to the backplane internally?

Just got home from work and the parity rebuild had finished, so I took a snip of the screen to ask about the insane amount of errors it found and what I could do to fix this problem since it seems to be persisting, and ran a diagnostic of the system, when the diag was done I switch back to the main menu to find that disk 25 had dropped again and become unmounted for the like 7th time now, but the parity is fine for the moment. I ran another diag after the disk dropped so they both will be down below as well as the screen shots. I am at a lose as what to do next. I have the replacement drives still on the way and the pdu's as well even though you said its doubtful they will be needed they were relatively cheap. any help would be appreciated, as I feel like I'm going in circles here and at any moment I could lose it all. tower-diagnostics-20230505-1913.zip tower-diagnostics-20230505-1916.zip

my system consist of a dellr710, net app ds4246, and Cyberpower ups, The net app has a capacity of 24 drives plus the 6 the dell r710 has, they are attached via a sfp cable. I'm only using about half the available slots though of the netapp at the moment. they have a sata backplane 3.5 hard drive enclosure on the netapp. I ordered two more power supplies to this netapp as it original only came with 2 and had space for four. I'm not sure if this will make any difference but since power or cabling could be the problem I figured it was worth a try. the hard drives and pdus don't get here till Monday and the parity is still finishing so till then I'm left hoping. oh I linked a picture of my setup above, I do apologize for the messy cable management ahead of time.

Now that you say that I have seen things like that on videos but no I haven't installed any thing like that in this system, the stuff I was seeing when I searched for power splitter cables were things like this ( https://www.newegg.com/black-c2g-6-ft-cable-connectors/p/N82E16812196290 ) which is something completely different then what you were referring to so my apologies for the misunderstanding there.
