I recently started to use unRAID and I was planning to use an old disk as the parity disk.
I have tried to cleared the disk three times but all failed.
First time it fails with two pending sector.
Second time it fails with one pending sector and zero reallocated sector.
Third time also fails with one pending sector and zero reallocated sector.
SMART test was passing after the first and the second preclears.
After the third preclear, the disk no longer passes the SMART test, whether it is simple or extended.
The disk is out of warranty and is not eligible for RMA.
This disk was previously used as an internal hard disk for 2~3 years as regular Time Machine backup and later on as an external hard disk for occasional Time Machine backup (like once every few months).
It is an enterprise grade hard disk but it fails way earlier than I expected.
I am ready to buy a new disk for the parity, but I just wonder if there are completely no ways to save the disk.
I have attached for SMART report as reference. Hopefully it will be helpful to understand the status of the disk.
