  1. Hello, Since few hours, I have been struggling to mount the remote SMB share called "Audio Studio E". When adding the remote SMB share, I entered the username (which is 5 letters) and pwd (combination of letters and numbers), and I had to enter the shared folder by hand (because it didn't detect it). The corresponding Unraid user is created with the same credentials. The log shows the error: CIFS: VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13 I'm attaching the diagnostics file. Could anyone help me? This is very frustrating. sunlightprime-diagnostics-20230513-2050.zip
  2. This is maybe a very simple question but I didn't find the answer by myself. When the array has "started" status and that we want to do a clean shutdown of the server, will pressing the Shutdown button (under Main Tab) initiate stopping the array or not? I basically want to know if we can reduce the the number of steps by pressing 1 button (Shutdown) instead of 2 buttons (Stop and later Shutdown).
  3. Issue: REMOTE SHARE CAN'T MOUNT BUT HAS MOUNT POINT NAME I’m facing my first problem with Unassigned Devices plugin. Not so sure if the problem is really from UD but some of you will probably be able to help me. This is the first time I’m using Unraid and this is in an office context. I’m an self-trained network technician (but still struggle a bit). Yesterday I succeeded in mounting a SMB remote share (from a shared folder located on Windows PC) to my Unraid server. But today I wanted to mount a shared remote drive from the same Windows PC to Unraid. I used the same Sharing settings (in Windows drive & folder) than previous day. I didn't update do any plugin update in the last 2 days as everything is up to date. Here is my problem: On the 2nd day, I was not able to mount the remote SMB share (drive or any new folder from Windows desktop) but I got a mount point name (see picture and share point called "PRODUCER-HELENS_audio"). I removed the SMB remote share and added it again but the result was the same (drive or folder was not able to mount to Unraid). I have no clue why this happens. Hopefully one of you will be able to guide me towards a solution. sunlightprime-diagnostics-20220628-1018.zip
  4. @dlandon, should I add my post to the "Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array" thread or keep it here for ease of following the topic?
  5. Thank you @dlandon. I'm talking about the SMB shared folder called "audio" (2nd position in the list). This morning after restarting the server, and the Win PC called "producer-helens", the result is the same as I explained above. The auto-mount does not happen and when clicking on "Mount" button nothing happens as well. Same result even after removing the automount option for that share. I attached my diagnostics file. Thank you for your help. sunlightprime-diagnostics-20220628-1018.zip

  7. Hi Spencer, As I didn’t yet set the remote access to the server, I will be able to look at it again on Friday or Saturday… but what I can say is that the server is behind Pfsense. Is this a problem for what I’m concerned about right now? I will try to remove all AD blockers that I have.
  8. Thanks for @jorgeB, but I didn't find my answer there. I kept on trying.... but the Unraid logo animation moves forever and no payment methods are being displayed. I tried with different browsers (Brave, Chrome, Firefox) and without the discount code as well but the problem remains the same. What should I do to buy the upgrade? How to solve this problem?
  9. I wanted to upgrade the license from Plus to Pro but I can't see the Payment method info coming.... I updated Unraid to 6.10.3 and reboot server prior to upgrading the license. I tried to Brave browser and with Chrome but it's same result and I can't see the payment method options. How can I do the payment? Is there another way to do it? Thanks for helping!!
  10. thanks a lot @ChatNoir, you guided me to the right place I think. I will study this and i hope it will make sense for me.
  11. Sorry if this question could maybe be solved if I was in front of the Unraid server. At the moment, I'm thousands kms away. My next step in setting up the office Unraid server is to create users and shares, transfer data to the Unraid shares, schedule for future similar transfer and set up online backups. As I will create my transfer tasks with User scripts and with Rsync command, here is my question (assuming that the Unraid server stay on during the night and that Rsync command will be run for the 2nd time) : In the situation that the office PC (on the same network, from where the remote SMB share was created) shut down at the end of day and restart next morning, will this SMB share be automatically (without human intervention) re-mounted to Unraid server? If not, what could be the solution to do such thing? Thanks for your help.
  12. Thanks at lot @Frank1940, this all make sense now.
  13. Thanks for saying this. I was not sure how to do..
  14. Hi there, Thanks for sharing how you handle your local syslog server. I'm talking about the option 3 you described here. When choosing to implement the option 3, do we need to have the remote computer (in your example 192.168.1.242) always turn ON as in the option 2? Does that IP really exist in your network? If we set the "local syslog rotation" to enabled, will we be able to get error logs when the system can't reboot, or does unclean shutdown? What does Enabling "local syslog rotation" really mean, how often will the old logs will be erased? thanks for answering those questions..
  15. based on all your comments, I upgraded my equipment list to this: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZjLN8J I will buy the case in the country in Asia. I know having 2 SSD NVMe drives for the cache pool will be overkill for the 1 Gbps ethernet I will have at the beginning. However the 2.5" SSD drives are now more or less at the same price. So I thought of going this way. I chose to go with the Asus TUF GAMING Z590-PLUS mobo to give me 24 PCI-e lanes and the Asus TUF GAMING Z590-PLUS motherboard should let me have 2 NVMe drives connected with PCI-e modes and not disconnecting any of the 6 SATA drives (counted on PCI lanes from chipset). I'm not 100% sure about this, so I will appreciate if some of you would check this with me from the mobo manual. 1- In the future, instead of adding a dedicated GPU, will I be able to put a SAS to SATA PCI-e card on the PCI-E_1 (it will take 8 lanes)? 2- If i use one cache pool (SSD_1 + SSD_2) for my array, will I need to have a separate cache pool (SSD_3 + SSD_4) for my VM or could I simply use a single cache drive (SSD_3) for the VM? I understood the cache drive is not mandatory for the server to run but it helps with speed. THANKS for your great help!
  16. Cooling the processor is important and even more in a hot and humid country where my Unraid server will be. So I should not make any budget cut on the cooler. It's great you shared about this because I had no clue that the CPU could actually draw more than 65 W. Your comment pushed me to research more on that. I also found a very profound video sharing on the fact that mobo manufacturers were setting the "multicore enhancement" to auto by default in the BIOS. Cooling the processor is important and even more in a hot and humid country where my Unraid server will be. So I should not make any budget cut on the cooler.
  17. Thanks for sharing about this news. I will stay away from Gigabyte Mobo at this time...
  18. Just wondering if I'm going to get any more feedback from the gurus up there.... It's important to help me get started. Thanks for giving me some of your precious time.
  19. Hi guys! This is my first build with Unraid and I would appreciate if you could review the parts choice I made for the following use cases: - storage for Office, Photo and Video department - backup to cloud - remote Root access to WebGui - may run 1 Virtual Machine (like Ubuntu maybe) - no Plex, no transcoding, no gaming My starting plan is to set: - start with Ethernet 1 Gbps - 4 data HDD drives of 8 TB each - 1 parity HDD drive of 8 TB - 1 cache pool with 2 x M.2 NVMe PCI-e drives My mid-term plan is to improve my NAS with: - move to Ethernet 2.5 Gbps - 2 parity HDD drives - 1 cache pool with 2 x M.2 NVMe PCI-e drives + 1 cache pool with 2 x SSD Sata 2.5 inch drives Here is my parts list: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/J9fGp2 My case will be: https://www.gamemaxpc.com/productkkk/568-en.html Manual of Mobo Gigabyte Z590M GAMING X: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_z590m-gaming-x_e.pdf Alternate Mobo could be Asus ROG Strix Z490-G Gaming (wifi): https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1200/ROG_STRIX_Z490-G_GAMING_WI-FI/E16474_ROG_STRIX_Z490-G_WI-FI_GAMING_UM_V2_WEB.pdf Here are my questions: What are the different use cases scenario for using cache pool? If i use one cache pool (SSD_1 + SSD_2) for my array, will I need to have a separate cache pool (SSD_3 + SSD_4) for my VM or could I simply use a single cache drive (SSD_3) for the VM? After hours of research, I understood that the either Gigabyte mobo or Asus will allow me to connect 2 M.2 NVMe drives (in PCI-e mode) at the same time without disabling any of the 6 SATA drives. Do you agree with me? Will this 6-core processor and RAM be enough to handle 1 VM? With the Intel® UHD Graphics 730 embedded in the CPU, will I be able to use a VM without doing any pass-through? What sorts of work will I be able to do with the embedded GPU? In the hardware requirement help for Unraid, I saw that because of HPA we need to be careful with Gigabyte mobo. I could not find if I could disable HPA for the mobo I selected. Will i face a problem with this mobo? I'm sorry if some questions should not be under the discussion theme. Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate those of you who will give some time to check my configuration.
  20. Is anyone out there using Tailscale? Could it fully solve my initial problem? I have nothing to test at this moment... I'm in my research phase.
  21. Hi everyone, I discovered Unraid a week ago while researching on how to build a DIY NAS for a non-profit org (located in Asia). I watched tons of YT videos on Unraid and already subscribed to few channels like SpaceInvader One. I have some IT and basic network knowledge but will not consider myself as professional. In my use case, I'm planning to design the entire Unraid Server mainly for storage, remote root access, remote file access, scheduled local and cloud backups. I will travel to Asia to set everything up running. If I don't get proper person to train on the field to administrate the Unraid server, I will have to administer their Unraid server from my home (located in Europe). After few days of watching different tutorials on how to secure the remote access, I'm a bit confused for which app I should use. I guess it is because new apps came on the market over the years and also that I may not have properly understood everything. With Unraid 6.9.x or 6.10, which apps should I use to secure my remote connection to the Unraid WebGui? Assuming that i do not have DMZ turned on on my router, will working with "My Servers" app bring similar security levels than using Wireguard, or OpenVPN or Nginx Reverse Proxy App? For what purpose should we use those apps in combination for remote access? Am i correct to think that "my servers" app is dealing with the SSL certificate and not giving a private & protected connection via VPN? Will using "My Servers" app help me to securely and remotely access the Unraid server if I do not have the option to set a static IP address or neither open ports from the ISP router at home (in Europe)? If yes, I will call this situation A. In situation A, what sorts of operations would I NOT be able to do on/from the server? Thank you all for you help!!
