  1. Thanks so much for your reply! I just got home from work and will try this tonight or early tomorrow and post back. Thanks so much again.
  2. Hi. I'm a nooB that had an Unraid setup working with an Aorus Master B550 motherboard but wanted to upgrade to an X570 Strix-e that had both 2.5 and 1 gb LAN as well as 8 sata ports. However, I wasn't able to get Unraid to boot up in legacy mode as I had been doing with the same USB on the previous B550 board. I tried deleting keys, setting to use with Other OS in boot options, and that didn't help, only had a black screen when I could get past the BIOS. The only thing that worked was deleting the - from EFI- folder, making it say only EFI on the boot disc... That gets it to show Unraid loading up, then it goes black with only a blinking _ at the top-left of the screen, and I have to pull up Unraid via another system's web page, which then works as normal. However, I got both a Windows 11 and a Garuda Linux VM working previously on the previous build, and then they also were working with this new setup after reapplying the GPU's for passthrough as well as USB and keyboard and mouse as per the video I watched, with one or two exceptions where I had to reboot to get the VM's to work. Now I can't get either VM to boot, both having no previous problem with PCI passthrough such as with the graphics card, a 1080ti for both audio and video. Now I can't get either to show on screen, and I haven't made any other changes to the VM's. And as I was typing this topic I got the error message /var/log is getting full, and I haven't even quite gotten past the 30 day trial period. I'm assuming these things are related. Here is a copy of the diagnostic in case it may be helpful. It's possible that some of the problem was that I also added a second cache disc /pool to store VM's and related info in as per a video I watched PRIOR to moving the server to the new motherboard/setup. I copied the info to the new disc with Binhex Krusader and was able to get them to boot night last night. Then neither VM will boot this morning, though they show as started but only shut down when forced. I want to troubleshoot more but have to go to work (13 or more hours today) and will check back later. I'm hoping I may be able to keep and make use of the X570 motherboard, as it has 8 SATA ports. But I'll be ready to do my first Amazon return tomorrow if it doesn't pan out, and maybe I'll start from scratch if the problem is more extensive than I'm thinking, or may consider making a separate Unraid server and just dual booting Linux and Windows on another PC. Thanks so much for any reply and advice. rushtallica-diagnostics-20211118-0503.zip
  3. I'm running out of time tonight, but here is a video I'm listening to that describes using the SMB shares.
  4. I found another link that may be helpful:
  5. I saw your post last night and was curious to see any replies. As a complete nooB to linux, yesterday I activated a Garuda linux vm for gaming and to learn a linux distro. I've looked back through and found some threads with some info, but I couldn't find anything very straight-forward, like an awesome Spaceinvaderone type video or explanation of how to set up an unraid share for a linux vm. At this point I'm not completely sure it's easy enough for there to even be a detailed step-by-step set of instructions. All the ones I've seen have been geared towards Windows VM's or just setting up a linux distro for some other purpose that apparently doesn't require using shares. And I truly appreciate so much good info I've found on setting up VM's and love Spaceinvaderone's most recent video on Unraid 6.10 that also covers some of setting up a Windows 11 install (I also used elements of the older Windows 10 Daily Driver one as well as a few different ones regarding passing through GPU's. Thanks to everyone who's shared good info over time on these things! From some linux-related info I've seen, it seems like setting up shares can be done using a command line after making sure to set up the correct share path and putting a share 'tag' name in the Unraid VM creation first, though I'm too new at it to feel confident that what I would type in linux command might only work for a different type of system, i.e. Debian or Ubuntu rather than an Arch-based distro such as Garuda. A good thing is that it is only a new VM, and it's probably good to see if it can get figured out before getting such a VM set up very much. Here is a linked page about it that I just found from a moderator's response to another related post and that may be very helpful: https://www.linux-kvm.org/page/9p_virtio (it seems the virt-manager referred to does a similar/same job as the share/mount portion of the Unraid VM creation tool) I'm going to search for some of the other info I saw before and will link it back here soon. Also, I've considered just re-creating a new VM and making a very large Vdisk size if I can't figure out how to share with the array so I can at least have space to download a few Steam games to, and I've also thought about looking more into passing through a real SSD to use specifically for the linux VM. And if it may help, I've seen it said that it can be shared via SMB or NFS, as well, though so far I haven't seen how to go about setting it up. I wish you (and myself ) luck!
  6. Thank you so much for your reply! I woke up and noticed the VNC remote choice just before checking the thread. I had a feeling (and was hoping) it might be something simple I just wasn't catching and can't believe I didn't see that before. I just tried that on the guest PC, the server, itself, and an old Macbook Pro, and the VNC Remote works on all. Now to try to sort out using GPU passthrough and a better remote viewer such as NoMachine. Thanks so much again!
  7. Hello! I'm new to Unraid. I admit setting up the server itself was fairly easy. However, I've only been successful in getting a Windows 10 VM to work when creating it. If I click X to get rid of the VM window, restarting the VM doesn't bring up the VM again, and I can't figure out how to make it appear on screen --- and I've never seen a VM start on the host machine/monitor. Am I missing something simple, or is it a technical problem? I followed numerous videos, set CPU cores/threads in pairs, leaving 0 and 1 and their matching threads, and I've tried using 1 CPU core (not 0), etc... And I can't get a VM to show up at all, even when creating a new one, when trying to pass through anything. (Ryzen 5800x, Aorus Master B550, AMD Vega 56 in slot one, and NVidia 1060 3GB in 2nd/ x16 (x4) slot, 1 TB SS cache drive and 2 WB red 4 TB drives, one the parity drive, and trying to pass through AMD card in some attempts). Also, I KNOW this will sound stupid, but I really haven't seen it explained: Am I at some point supposed to be able to actually see a VM on the server PC/monitor, itself, or only on a different PC/ Macbook? Basically, I've heard people come to Unraid to have a server and gaming rig in one PC. Is that possible? Again, I've only seen a VM start (without passthrough) on the client/ guest PC. Thanks so much for any replies, and I wish everyone else well.
  8. Thank you. It was either related to running Power Toys on my W10 setup or Avast; I couldn't access Avast's user screen to make sure my server was allowed; I had to uninstall Power Toys to see the Avast user screen and then added/ allowed the network in Avast, and it's working now. Thanks again.
  9. Hi. I'm an admittted nooB trying to get started, but I'm familiar with troubleshooting various programs and set up a number of Hackintoshes, etc., and have checked around but haven't found any further answers to this type of problem. I've rebooted the server 3 times and done the terminal command exactly as in this thread (and Invader's related video) about 5 times and still get: "My Servers Error Disconnected from Unraid API." Is there anything else that can be tried? I'm on version 6.9.2; does it need to be 6.10? Is it because I'm on a ryzen setup (5800x) or on the trial versus paid version of Unraid? Thanks for any reply. EDIT: I tried booting up the PC server, itself, and it IS connected to the mothership. I tried it on my old Macbook Pro, and it's working on that, too; I'm only getting that message on my other PC that I'm using the Unraid app on.
