  1. Hi everyone, I recently had my one drive change from sdh to sdi without any physical changes being made to the server. The server is a separate area of the house which secured away from everyone so there was no chance of it being messed with or bumped/moved as it is in a 24U Dell Rack. My drive was originally sdh. Then I noticed a notification stating the drive has been changed to sdi. The drive in the array is now showing as disabled and emulated. I am able to access all the files from the emulated drive. The original drive which is now sdi is listed in the unassigned devices section. I am able to mount the drive and access all the files. I don't know why it changed from sdh to sdi. Even with the drive being changed from sdh to sdi in unraid, I thought the array would notice the serial number and still work. the drive label is still the same serial number it was as it's based on the actual drive serial number. I am currently rsyncing the data from the emulated drive to another drive in the array as a backup. This happened to me on Friday and did not notice the drive would not mount. I attempted to rebuild the drive and commenced to rebuild an unmountable drive and lost all the data that was on the drive. I was able to get almost 25% of the data back from other sources before it happened again. So, I am copying all the data to another drive to be safe when I attempt to rebuild the drive again. I have another drive on the way, as I am going to rebuild to a brand new drive. Then I will preclear the old drive as a way to test the drive that is suspect. If it is proven to be faulty, I will go the warranty route since the drive is only 2 months old and has a 5 year warranty since I registered it when I received it back in February. Does anyone know why the drive would have changed from sdh to sdi without actually being disconnected and then reconnected? Thanks.
  2. It just goes to the network boot screen option as that is the last boot option. I looked at both usb sticks, and they both have the "EFI" folder without the hyphen "EFI-"
  3. I have a R720xd runnning Unraid for a while now and it is working just fine. My home lab (hobby) and the higher electricity costs we are all experiencing and I have decided to migrate to newer hardware to try to decrease my power consumption. I have the new hadware installed in a rackmount case I was gifted and has a trial license runnning. It all works fine. I started to copy files from the original server to the trial version and I figured I would just transfer the license to the new setup once all is complete. I have been reading and learning the unraid file system and how it works. So I started to move my data in my original server to my large drives to eventually remove the older smaller drives. It took a few days and finally had all the data moved and consolidated to the newer larger drives. I reconfigured the setup and removed to empty drives. I powered down the R720xd and started to migrate the drives and hardware to the new build. I tried to power the new hardware up and it would not boot. I unplugged all the drives so only the usb and the NVME drives were attached, and still lwould not bnoot. I tried replacing the usb key with the trial one I was using to test, and it boots just fine. After a couple hours and frustration. I moved the drives and usb key back to me R720xd and i have it running again. I don't know what else to do. Should I back up the config and restore the config on the new usb drive and try it again since I know that one will boot. Then if it will boot on old config with out drives. Maybe I will just return the new hardware since it would take a while to get the ROI of the new harware. Thanks,
  4. thanks, for your quick response. Safe even though I have one of the devices being used in the array? A couple of the devices I have passed through to VM, those are safe to delete without breaking the setup?
  5. On the MAIN tab from the web GUI, can I click the red 'x' that is after the devices listed under the HISTORICAL DEVICES section and have them be removed from the list without losing any of the configurations? I want to remove them from the list, want to clean up the stuff that is displayed. I have all the devices being used in some way. They are unassigned to the ARRAY, but at passthrough to VMs. The red 'x' says 'Remove Device Configuration' and makes no mention if it safe to do so. So, I am trying to find out. Thanks for the help.
  6. I cannot get to the NVIDIA plugin spot. I can only get into safe made, and the plugins are not there to unistall and update. I even tried downgrading, but still wont get past Starting Samba: hangs
  7. Solved! Did a reboot. I usually don't shut the server down. It is on 220V 5kva UPS and the house on a backup generator for when we a power failure. Now everything is playing nicely. I guess having the hot swappable drives are perfect in unraid. Simple fix. Reboot next time I have to add more storage. Thanks for everyone who replied and offered advice.
  8. I guess will stop the array, and see what the drives look like and take some more screen caps.
  9. the drives are given labels, this drive was given (sdl). there is not an updated process in the docs as of version 6.10.3. Apparently with the newer version there are differences in process and plugins then with previous versions. I just don't what this means?
  10. I don't maybe MAC addresses, serial numbers, IP address, domain names and service tags. They are all over in the logs. I understand about everyone volunteering and I appreciate all of the hard work. I routinely praise and suggest Unraid to others. I am just a tad cautious about sharing information.
  11. Here is the Smart log for the drive. The syslog has a lot of info to weed out. anything in particular I can cut and paste? 20220914-0910 (sdl).txt
  12. I am a worry wart, I am very sceptical about posting the *.zip file as it is not not completely anonymized. What exactly are you wanting to see? I can make sure its generic and provide it. thanks, for the reply
  13. I have been using Unraid for a year or so and this is my first problem. I have initially setup up the server with a 4TB paraity drive and 1x4TB, 3x3TB, 2x2TB and 1x 1TB data drives. I bought an brand new 4TB WD Red Pro drive to add to my array to increase my available storage. I have watched several videos showing others adding drives to the array. I installed the Pre-Clear Disk plugin when I first setup up the system. (it was recommended). The Pre-Clear plugin is no longer available now wit the latest stable version. I downloaded another Pre-Clear plugin from the Binhex repository. I used the plugin to preclear the new drive. It was succesful and took approxiametly 19.5 hours. I was now going to add the newly precleared disk to the array. I stopped all of my docker containers and stopped the array. I then selected the next open slot in the array and chose the new 4TB drive. I restarted the array. Now after the array is back up and running the new drives is not showing in the array in ANY slot. It is still listed in the Unassigned Devices section. The status indicator is not green or blue, but is grayed out and the status that is displayed to the right of the drive ID is a grayed out rectangle with the word ARRAY in the box. There is not any documentation on this GRAYED Out ARRAY indicator, so I do not know if this is normal. All the videos I come across, none present this how I am seeing this. The others are getting a format option/warning. I am not getting any of that. You can see there is not a device 7 in my slot list, even though I selected this (sdl) drive for that slot when I stopped the array and it is all grayed out. Thanks for any help if I am doing something wrong.
