  1. How can I tell if my cache drive is doing what it's design to do? My understanding is when I copy over a file to the array, the file first gets copied over to the cache then at 340am is copied over to the array. Do I have that right? I want my cache setup for a faster write. I have an intel 120gb SSD as my cache. When I exploy the drive there's nothing on it.
  2. No it registered as sdf. it's good in the settings I had a 250GB SATA 5400RPM drive in as my cache and it took a 1.5GB file to copy over in less than 5 min. With the SSD it's taking over 8 min. I thought the SSD would speed it up?
  3. Joe thanks for the reply. Please dumb it down a bit. I don't understand your answer. I am using the SSD as a Cache drive. I have precleared it already. besides wearing down the SSD will it still work as the cache drive?
  4. I bought an intel 120GB SSD and it somehow went bad. The BIOS didn't even recognize it. I returned it and got a new one. The new is now precleared. The results (attached) didn't look like my other SATAs and not wanting to screw this one up, I searched the forum and found this post. If I precleared my SSD but didn't have to does this change the function of the drive? How can I fix it so the server doesn't see it as a ATA drive? What would the command line look like? intel120gbSSDprecleared.txt
  5. Yep, all the PCs have the same workgroup name. They are all on the same router, with the same DNS
  6. adding some logs Ver 4.7 plus syslog-20130106-111221.zip
  7. Had a problem with cache and had to take it our of my array. That delete my shares. I was able to re-create the shares but no data shows in shares. Data is in array cuz for the difference in drive size. The question is what do I do next? How do I get the data to show up in the shares again.
  8. I have a new windows 8 laptop on my network attached wired (can be wifi also). I have two other win 7 laptops attached to the network by wifi. the windows 7 pcs can access all shares and even see Tower in network places. The win 8 pc does not see the tower in network places. I can access the tower with \\ipaddress but not see the shares. I have all the firewalls off and still nothing. This might be a basic network setup but I don't seem to know what settings to fix.
  9. is it safe to stop the parity sync? if I take my array offline then bring it up again, will the parity-sync continue?
  10. Can someone point me to a good explaination to disk spinning up/down. Is this just for reading the disk not copying to the array?
  11. Oops I guess that would help, sorry! It was NTFS and I think it was striping RAID 1. I bought the UBS with the unRAID on it. If I were to boot the PC with the two disks involved would I be able to see the data? Nothing happened to the data (i think). before clearing the CMOS, I was able to see the drive with all the data intact.
  12. I just bought unRaid for 6 drives. I wanted a better file server than windows. Anyways I already have two 2TB drives in a RAID. Had to clear my CMOS and now there's a problem with Disk 1 in the RAID. WHen I boot my PC I get an error in the RAID, nothing specific. In windows I can see the RAID drive but it ask me to format it. I want to perserve my data because stupid me didn't back it up. Can unRaid see my RAID and possibly recover it?
