  1. You are mis-interpreting the report. The column with the values you are describing is "Parameter TYPE" Each parameter is categorized in type as one that may be an indication of either Old-age, or pre-failure. A parameter is not failed unless its current normalized "VALUE" is equal to or below its affiliated failure THRESHOLD. A value in the parameter "TYPE" column does not indicate the parameter has failed the SMART test. If a parameter has failed, it will say FAILING_NOW in the WHEN_FAILED column. Joe L. Ah, I see; D'oh. So I guess common sense doesn't help me read this report. I see the number of errors...like how you mention the reallocate sector count is 2047; but how are you supposed to know what's "bad"? Just experience? Sorry, don't mean to turn this into a "how do you read SMART reports" thread; I'm sure I can FAQ or Google that somewhere. CD
  2. That disk is in really bad shape... According to the SMART report, it has 2047 re-allocated sectors. 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 036 Pre-fail Always - 2047 You are WAY overdue for a RMA on it. Most disks only have a few thousand spare sectors. Frankly I'm surprised the normalized VALUE of 100 is not lower. Now is NOT the time to wait for a sale... That disk is in really bad shape, replace it. Joe L. Yeah, I'm not much for reading SMART reports, but I guess common sense tells you when all categories report as "pre-fail" or "old-age", it's time to give up the fight...lol. Admittedly, this is a very old drive; a little 500G number from my very first MSS, that I've just been holding on to...tacked-on to the end of the array. I guess your server is no place for nostalgia? CD

Can I "re-distribute" the array without it, so I get my data back online in the meantime...or is it more trouble than it's worth, and I should just hang in there for NewEgg? CD
  4. Cool. I do have unMENU, and I see the SMART options under Disk Management. Let's run this sucker! Smart Status Report I assume? CD SMART.txt
  5. So...if I opt for option 2 for now, do I check it's ok to bring the array back online...and it will keep my data intact, and take that drive out of the array? CD
  6. OK; stopped the array, powered down...cracked-open the case, made sure everything was tight, started back up. Now the array is stopped, but it looks like it senses the old, "bad" hdd as new. It's asking me to check the box to confirm I want to start the array, and do a data rebuild. At this point, I'd actually like to take the disk out of the array, continue without it...and test it and see if it's going in and out on me. Make sense? How should I proceed? CD syslog-2011-01-17-2.txt
  7. Thanks. As I said, I've been "lucky" enough that this is my first issue with unRAID...been running for like 2 years...so you know how it is; you panic, and forget all common sense. Like it could just be a loose connection or something. Of course, what you're saying makes perfect sense Rob; that because the syslog shows it "sees" the drive, just can't communicate with it...that I should brace myself for the worst. I'll have a chance to crack the case open and look over the cabling tonight. If that doesn't "fix" it, I'll be online with NewEgg and ordering a replacement. I appreciate the help so far; great community...and if I need to replace the drive, as I said, it'll be my first one...so I'll look forward to some help through that. CD
  8. v4.5.6...just noticed bad hdd for first time; radio button blicking red. I stopped the array and rebooted; you know, wishful thinking. Now the drive says "not installed". How should I and can I recover (unscathed) from here? CD
  9. So now...all I really need is lighttpd set-up help!! CD
  10. Ok, I apologize in advance...because I am really fumbling around here. Hell, I don't even know if I'm posting in the right forum...lol. But I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the Roku to pull media files from my unRAID server...using the Roksbox private channel. I basically just need to install a web server, that can push media to the Roksbox interface...but that's where the confusion sets in. Roksbox suggests Monsoon for the beginner, and Apache for the more "advanced" user. Now, I know people who have tried to install Apache to unRAID and have gone lighttpd or lighttpg/PHP instead, and that's where I get lost. This is for pretty simple streaming; Roksbox will only handle a limited amount of containers and codecs to begin with, so I'm just trying to stream my SD mpegs. Point is, I'm looking for the path of least reisitence here; simple, simple, simple...and low overhead. If someone has done this very set-up...and knows both sides of the equation...you'd be my HERO. But at the very least, I figure if I can get the unRAID side figured out...someone can take it from there on the Roku side (I've asked, but you know how some forums are...un-WHAT? LOL). So...what's the way to go here? I had another member tell me he uses lighttpd to serve to his PCH, but a member in the Roku forum told me...that while lighttpg is a nice, lightweight server...it has a 2G limit? That doesn't sound right to me, as I know for a fact this member who serves his PCH with it does BD. So, I thought maybe he was using lighttpd with PHP...or lighttpd with Apache...or HELP. Seriously, that's where I get lost. CD
  11. SOLD! to TheDude. The Dude abides! CD
  12. Lots of interest so far guys, so I probably already have a buyer. However, I did want to follow up about the s&h. I mention it because I think that's what keeps a lot of people from buying cases second-hand; at least that's the feedback when I couldn't sell my ARK 4U-500 for like $50. Like I said, I use my company's UPS account, and the rates are GREATLY reduced...and I pass that savings on to you. The results are pretty staggering; even better than I had expected. For example, 2 quotes that I did this morning: UPS website says $19.62, my s&h $10.90. Another, UPS website $33.98(!), my cost $18.85. Food for thought, but like I said...I suspect it'll be gone by the end of the day. CD
  13. Guys, probably the best way to communicate about your interest in the case is to PM me. I can post pictures if you like, but I'm not really sure what you're looking for; I'm keeping all the parts...except I might part with the Corsair 650TX PSU, as I overbought specifically knowing I might move up to this case, but it's really more than I need...so all I'd really be taking pictures of is the front, and that you can get from any number of places. However, if there is something specific you're looking for in a pic, let me know and I'll try to accomodate you. I haven't modded the case in any way; pretty straight-forward build to start, and I've only used 6 drive bays to this point, although they've all been tested. Also, I do have 2 sets of the reverse breakout cables for the backplane..and I won't need them for the next build, so I'll toss those in for the highest bid. I'm getting lots of interest; if you PM me, I'll let you know the ballpark of the offers. I'm not just going to be greedy, and hold out for the most; I have a figure in mind, based on the offers I've been getting. And as soon as someone makes a suitable offer, and pays...that'll be that. OTOH, until someone pays...I'm not a fool; an offer for more will obviously get the case. BTW, I'm in 21801...but don't be discouraged if you try to do s&h yourself; I'll use my company account and I get a much better rate than what UPS advertises. CD
  14. I just don't think I'm going to need this much case after all. Have run it for maybe 6 months, but I think I'm going to port back to my ARK 4U-500. It's in near perfect condition; I'll just keep it and underutilize if I can't get a decent offer. Of note, I think I can offer a great rate on s&h through my company. CD
  15. For the record, I'm in MD...but I don't expect shipping to be as costly as you might expect. I ship through UPS, using my work's account, and then I just reimburse them. The rate always ends up much better than if I just walked in off the street. I wouldn't expect it to be any more than $50, tops. CD
  16. Thanks for the replies guys; about what I was expecting. Makes sense to just hold onto the key; plus, you never know when I might change my mind again and want to big. Like Netflix starts charging $20 a month for its streaming...lol. As for the 4220, sounds like I need to approach it like a house; keep using it and just put it out on the market...and when and if it sells...that's when I get to start shopping for a replacement. CD
  17. I think I may be the first guy ever who’s looking to go smaller…lol. When I first started ripping video, and found that I needed a dedicated server…I did what I imagine a lot of beginners at the time did; I got me one of them cool-looking, HP MediaSmart servers, and just marveled at having 4 drives worth of storage available…lol. Well…as my storage needs grew…as did my ambitions…not to mention the fact that half of storage was being chewed up by WHSs back-up duplication…I decided to build by first unRAID box. This being my first build of any kind, I was absolutely going to wade-in slowly, and modestly (re: cheap…lol). I bought an ARK 4U-500, but good parts, with the idea that I could always move them up to something bigger when and if the need arose. Well…in the beginning, I had some drive trouble…and I got sick and tired of breaking into the case every time I needed to do any maintenance; plus, now that the build was done, and it was just a matter of adding ever-shrinking priced hard drives…I was convinced that I was going to rip the WORLD…lol. Out when the old ARK, and my modest needs…and in came a Norco 20-bay’er and an upgrade to a Pro key. Well…now a shift in my approach to ripping and streaming, and I’m convinced I grew too much, too fast. Rather than rip the WORLD, more and more these days, I try to stream from the Net what I can…and rip the rest, or what I need in absolute best PQ/AQ for the HT. OK, OK…get to the damn questions already…lol. As I look to shrink back, I’m wondering: A) What kind of market/going price can I expect if I wanted to sell-off my Norco 4220? I might just step back to the ARK, which I was never able to move on (fleec)eBay, in which case I would probably keep all the parts and just look to sell the 4220 case and Pro key (more on that in a minute); or I might go to a 2U, 6-8-drive hot-swappable box…in which case, I’d…at the very least…also move the case with the PSU. I ask about the market/price, because as I said…when I was trying to sell the ARK case…after I’d already built the Norco…I had NO interest whatsoever on eBay. However, I see people sell their old cases/builds here…and this is obviously a bigger target audience…but I wonder, even here, do these boxes really move or am I likely stuck…you know, unless I practically give it away? B) Can keys even be sold and transferred? What if I’m trying to port my data over to the new build? Can I sell a Pro, re-buy a Plus…and keep data intact; or am I stuck with the Pro key? I’ll ask, but...if the data is somehow tied to a particular key...I’m almost positive there’s nothing L-T can do to "reduce" the key size? Like I said, I’m probably the first guy in history to try and go smaller anyway. Thanks, CD
