New server advice
Well the only time i would need to make use of a backup is, if one of my drives failed. touch wood this has never happened yet, probably because the Seagate Ironwolf drives i use have been replaced over time as i needed more capacity 4TB to 8TB to 12TB. Each time as i slotted in the bigger drive the parity did its thing and rebuilt the data perfectly. So works for my needs. Admittedly in the case of an accidental deletion, it wouldn't help if i only noticed after a parity check.

New server advice
Transcoding is done on an SSD, a GPU would definitely make a difference as it would if i converted something using Handbrake. The HP server is old tech now and i need an upgrade anyway so maybe something with a GPU could be considered.

New server advice
I was looking at the 6-Bay UGREEN NASync DXP6800 Pro But reading up i wasn't sure if it would work with Unraid. The main problem with Synology boxes is their backup is the same as your storage. So if like me you have 32 TB of data it take 32TB to back up. With Unraid i just have a 12TB parity set for month back ups and forget about it, i love that about Unraid. I do like their smaller low wattage boxes that run quietly though. My current server can be heard all over the house when its serving data its so noisy, i was thinking about moving it to the garage. Maybe UGreen or Terramaster have the low power and noise with the Unraid benefit.

New server advice
I've been running a HP proliant G7 DL165 server for many years mostly with Unrain on it and although it's been used for my things its main day to day use has been as a Plex server for friends and family. Its common that i get 3 or 4 people streaming at a time and truth be told the server has been struggling for some time. Years back films would be small files and as quality got better the files are bigger and a few people log in using Playstations with cause the server to transcode the video most of the time the fans spin up and it sounds like an helicopter is in the house (some on here will relate lol) So my question is what do i replace it with. I was looking at the Synology stuff but that would mean moving away from Unraid and re formatting the 4HDD i have in my current setup. I'm a little out of touch with how NAS servers have progressed, what are peoples recommendations these days for a 4-6 bay NAS with good Unraid performance.

Flash backup issue
Hi everyone, I've not been able to upgrade the Unraid OS for a while, the flash USB is too small. The USB i stupidly used was a 2GB stick, and ive got away with until recently. I've just ordered a 32GB USB3 sandisk stick to replace it with. So before Amazon deliver that tomorrow i thought id grab a backup of the current one ready. i click on the backup button and it says backing up, after a few minutes it stops... in my download folder i have a Unconfirmed 835970.crdownload file i've tried several times now its always the same? Like i say i will be using this to restore to the new stick tomorrow, and then i can upgrade my OS

Server crash fans screaming in the night
Update: I noticed there was a new unraid OS to upgrade too, since i did this 2 weeks ago all has been fine? so it was either a bug with the last OS or a coincidence and by upgrading its overwritten some bad data. Fingers crossed its been running great since.

Server crash fans screaming in the night
in the last 2 weeks i've been woken twice to my server (HP Proliant) fans screaming away. i opened my laptop to login to the GUI and cannot login in... its like Unraid is offline. with no other option i've had to pull the plug on the server. After reboot it gives the unclean shutdown as you would expect and starts a parity check. no new software has been installed in this time and i am at a loss to what causes this? After the first time i put it down to computers misbehaving as they sometimes do, but a second time has me worried, anyone got an idea or something i can check?

Current pending sector is 13
So all was working well. and i decided to add a cach drive, so bought a SSD for this purpose. All worked fine for a while... about 6 months When i log in now i regularly see these sector errors, it started with 1 or 2 but its getting more, its now 13 (unlucky for some) i have my appdata primary storage as the cache same with downloads then moved to array after download and unpacking etc whats my options Do i change appdata and downloads back to array. unmount and format the cache drive and re mount or something else? obviously if it persists i will have to get a new SSD and bin this thing lol

[Support] ich777 - Application Dockers
I have installed Lidarr on my docker. to start with no problems. Then when i checked Appdata folder for Lidarr it has a folder called "MediaCover" with all the artwork for albums etc. i dont want this filling up my appdata i would prefer it on the array inside my music folder when i do this Lidarr breaks... losing all setting etc. Why the artwork isnt stored inside the folder for the album is beyond me? as it stands Data Dir: = /mnt/cache/appdata/lidarr Music: = /mnt/user/Music/ Downloads: = /mnt/user/Downloads/ is there a workaround?

Array wont start on boot?
My Server has been running without problem for over a year. a parity drive and 3 storage HDD I decided this week to add a cache drive and bought a 512gb SSD I installed it and formatted it, used MOVER and moved appdata and docker etc all went well. I shut the server down and re booted, normally after about 4-5mins the array is online. This wasn't working so i logged in and array was offline The cache drive tried to add itself as Disk 4 in the array? I clicked disk 4 and chose unassigned, then automatically the cache drive appear in Pool as cache again? Start the array manually all ok. Unless i reboot the server and then its offline again Anybody got an idea why it wont remember to just startup as a cache drive in pool?
