  1. Okay, communication between Workstation with Windows 23H2 and Unraid server goes via the whole network they're connected to in the building (that I didn't setup), instead of directly. Additionally, the Unraid is completely clogging the internet connection on the workstation, when there is some communication between the two devices. Windows Event viewer shows such errors and warnings: Name resolution for the name wpad timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded. Client PID 17644. 6062 - Lso was triggered Name resolution for the name wpad timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded. Client PID 3740. The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID Does that point at any specific issue for you? Also, FIx Common Problems plugin shows issue with DNS:
  2. Hi, Could someone make sense of it for me, please? I have two computers. Workstation and a server. The workstation is connected to WAN via Wifi. It is also connected to the server via an ethernet cable. The server has its Internet connection, via ethernet cable going into its 2nd rj45 port. Well, when I change the Internet connection to a different wifi network (like a hotspot from a smartphone converting 4G/5G), I can't connect to the server on lan anymore. What in the world? Does that make sense to you? Also, my LAN speed is 2-3MB/s, which I gotta fix too. Maybe its related.
  3. "Regardless, I didn't risk it and added the second 18TB as Disk2. I have effectively 20TB atm." Yeah. I am now trying to remove it.
  4. I have stopped the array and removed the new disk from the array, but Unraid doesn't want to forget it. Keeps emulating it and claiming that array is not protected (which is expected according to the documentation.) My next step was to replace the Disk1 with the new Disk. I guess I need to force Unraid to forget that disk2 somehow or reinstate this array config in "New Config" (hope not...)? I keep starting and stopping the array. When attempting to add the new Disk in place of Disk1 I have a wrong configuration.
  5. Rebuild of the parity is done. I wonder whats the next step.
  6. I like the analogy! When you say blank file system after format, do you mean the state of drive in which directories or/and file paths are still there, but no files themselves? While cleared (zeroed?) disk has no file system whatsoever. I wonder what is the most fundamental structure of the file system in this context. Would that be empty directories or something else?
  7. Hi everyone!, I have doubts about the next step when upgrading an array, hence writing this post. My array was comprised of 2x 4TB drives which I desire to replace with 2x 18TB and remove both 4TB from the array. The setup was such that one 4TB was the Parity disk and the other one was (still is) Disk1. I have precleared 2x 18T and one of them has already swapped with the parity 4TB disk. The array is rebuilt. I wondered whether as the next step should I swap 4TB Disk1 with 18TB, assuming data will be copied from the parity drive. Would it? If I'd swap 4T Disk1 with 18TB, would data be copied from the Parity onto 18TB or would it stay on the 4TB disk and be gone? Because one can't add the disk into the array without erasing it? This also makes it impossible to make offline backups, right? Regardless, I didn't risk it and added the second 18TB as Disk2. I have effectively 20TB atm. Now I wonder whether I need to copy the data from Disk1 to Disk2 manually. Use a tool or a command/operation in the array configuration. What would you suggest? Many thanks, Artur
  8. Hi everyone. After months my focus returned to Unraid. Besides getting OS update, I'm also catching up with the settings. On the topic of shares; I see that there is no "Use cach pool (for new files/directories)" option anymore. How is this being set up these days? Is this covered by setting up the "Primary storage" and "Secondary Storage" sections? Are those new sections in the webUI? The first screen is from my Unraid, the second is from YT video. Thanks for the support!
  9. Hi everyone! Space Invader in this video from 4 yrs ago was adding unassigned disks as cache drives only to encrypt them. Is this still a recommended practice? To switch off dockers, vms, array. Change cache disks and file system to encrypted. Then start the array in maintainance mode for encription file being created/assigned and then reverse the whole process. Thanks for clarification.
  10. Indeed, a format removes file systems. I should have added the disks to the array first then. It's a lesson to remember. Thank you guys!
  11. Hi everyone, I am running PreClear on newly added drives. They're unassigned drives. The good thing about PreClear besides testing premature failures is that there are 3 steps to it. Pre-Read, Write Zeros and Read. The information about the disk being cleared is being written to signature by (Unassigned Devices plugin?) in Unraid and Unraid won't do the clear once again, when disk will be added to the array. Also, any found bad sectors should be marked to SMART. My question is: Will the information in the disk' signature about preclear already being done (and maybe even info about bad sectors) be lost when changing file system? Should I do have set file system prior to preclear? Many thanks for enlightening me.
  12. Before upadting dockers should one disable Dockers in Unraid settings?
  13. Thanks for the reply! WIll do.
  14. Hi everyone, I hope you are well. I had the server without connection to the WAN for a while and now I wonder what is the right order to install updates. There are new versions of Unraid itself, dozens of plugins and community apps that have updates. Does it make difference whether I will update Unraid OS first or the plugins, apps and containers first? Appreciate the directions, many thanks!
