  1. Thank you Joe L. and vl1969. You guys are superb. I bought this WD 3 TB from Costco but the reviews were kind of negative so I got paranoid. I have a few newer movies in the server and want them available for the holiday. I did get the mail installed and tested OK. I ran preclear before on another drive but was not aware it was not finished and added it to the array. Well, the reiserfscheck program saved me from the abyss of hell. That is the reason I want to send email to myself this time. Anyway, I am about to embark on my turkey cooking journey so Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
  2. I am considering replacing my Hitachi 2 TB parity drive with a WD 3 TB drive. My question is if the WD for some reason is dead during or after preclear can I reinstall the original Hitachi in the server and restart without any preclear, format or whatever? I plan on using the following command for preclear: ./preclear_disk.sh M 4 /dev/sdX ("root" email address) What I am unclear about is do I need the parentheses and/or "root". Is the email address the default email address when email was set up or can it be another email address i.e. an alternative address. I am a bit paranoid because 3 TB preclear and sync take a long time and WD 3 TB quality might be iffy. I would hate to diable my server during the holiday season.Sorry about the trivial questions.
  3. Where is Utils/New permissions ? I do not see it with unraid 4.7.
  4. @dgaschk, the reiserfsck program fixed the problem for me. You have saved me from redoing the whole adding a new drive thing over again!!! Thanks again.
  5. Thanks for the link. I am just too tired now but will try the check disk tool tomorrow. I noticed that my preclear was done but there is something called the post-read still going on since yesterday. It may be because I added the drive and formatted it with the unraid server before this post-read was complete. It seems like it's been going for a very long time, longer than when I first setup the parity and data drive the first time. In any case I figured I would just take the drive out, use windows to delete everything and format it and redo the unraid again if this persists. Hopefully you just gave me a life line and that could make a difference!!!! PS By tomorrow this post-read should be done.
  6. I found out that the disk1 (problem free disk) has a FS reiserfs, while disk2 FS is unknown. So how do I fix this? I know that unraid used reiserfs file system FS. I did preclear and it showed no errors . so I formatted and added to the array. I am pretty sure I messed up somewhere. So something is making my disk2 as read only file system. How do I change this to read and write? 7. I used unraid 4.7. This is the latest info from my syslog. I am real new at unraid and am afraid to try out the 5.xx beta. I did have the WD20EARS drive. But I did set the MBR-4k-aligned and had no jumper on the drive. So that should be OK. I can reboot win7 and see what happens. 8. I have a problem which drives me crazy. I just added a second data drive, disk2 to my array. Everything seems to work fine, no errors, drive 2 TB WD showed up properly. But I cannot write or delete files or folders from my Win7 computer. This only happened with disk2 (just added), with disk1 no problem ot R or W. I had tried for hours on end with the user shares configuration to no avail. Export settings is set as R/W and included disks as blank, disk1,disk2 all varieties of them. same results every times. I can RW disk1 but not disk2. Please help me. I have spent already 2 days adding this new WD 2 TB drive and now I cannot use it.
  9. Thank you for the tutorial. I just checked the price of the 3 TB. My upgrade just have to wait, the price quoted are just unreal. Having just survived tropical storm Irene and then the crazy Alfred snow storm, I really feel for the Thailand people with their flood.
  10. I am new at this, How long does it take for the parity-sync to complete if a 2tb parity drive was replaced by a 3tb drive? I am talking about a cpu i3 540 with 2 GB ram.
  11. My primary objective for my UNRAID server is to centralize storage and provide availability to my music and movies. So I just installed the Unraid final release 4.7 with a couple of 2 TB HD in my HP Proliant ML110 G6. Although I was trying to use Preclear script (preclear_disk.sh), it did not work for me. Unraid 4.7 did allow me to format the drives and added them to the array. I did create the //Tower/Movies shares and set the Export to Export read/write. I can see the HD in the browser but I had to mount the data drive in Windows Explorer to be able to copy files to the disk. I can access //Tower/disk1/Movies directly from the browser but did not find a way to create folder or copy files to it. so I went ahead and copied a couple of BD movies to the Unraid server. I can play them on my Win7 Computer. What I really need help on and I am really stuck is that My Seagate FreeAgent Theater (FAT) media player cannot see the UNRAID server or the disk or the files. There is no provision in the Seagate to enter the IP address or the Unraid server. Any help in this subject is greatly appreciated. As a side note I want to point out that the Seagate FAT had not problem seeing the Synology server when I hook up the Synology in my network.
