  1. Hi.

I'm trying to build a new Unraid server as a replacement for my existing unraid server which is showing it's age!

I went with a i5-10400 CPU on a ASUS TUF Gaming B-460M-Plus motherboard.

Issue - On booting into Unraid I see the message ipv4 address not set and ipv6 address not set.   I tried deleting the network.cfg file and rebooted and still get the same issue.

The machine is connected via ethernet to a Eero mesh-router node.

Diagnostics are attached. I have also attached output from ifconfig -a (from the command line) as well.  You will see SATA issues in the logs as well since no drives have been installed in the server yet.

NOTE: The same machine when booted into Windows connects to the network properly, so the cable / connections seem to be fine.

Can anyone take a look at the what the issue could be.

    Thanks!

  2. After thinking long and hard I thought about going with something a little more than a barebones budget build. I came up with the following build components (except for hard drives). Thought here is I can probably run a couple of VMs if needed inside unraid as well if I wanted to with the additional RAM / CPU power. Would appreciate any inputs / suggestions:

    PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cFJJkX

    CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F 2.9 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($169.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler  ($34.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME B460M-A Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard  - 6 SATA ports ($79.98 @ Amazon)
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  ($139.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Fractal Design Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower Case  ($94.98 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair RM (2019) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($139.29 @ Amazon)

  3. Been a while since my first Unraid build (7 years ago!!) which has been working fine for me till date. Kudos to the user community here for helping me out of panic mode a few times when I've had issues like unclean shutdown / parity failure etc. I'm looking to build a new system as a replacement for my existing machine.

    Existing specs:

    MB: ASRock B75 Pro3-M

    CPU: Celeron G1620

    Memory: 4GB

    Drives: 5 x 3TB (1 parity) + 1 x 2TB. Total 14TB with around 2.5TB free space.

Case: Silverstone Technology CS380B (with hot-swap bays)

All I'm using this for is for Plex serving my media files and backup storage. No complains as of now except some of the drives are old and are showing UDMA CRC error counts and would like to upgrade to a little more CPU power/ram to be able to handle multiple transcoding streams.

I wanted to build a new budget system and maybe upgrade to fewer bigger drives.  A 6 SATA motherboard instead of 8 should be enough

    I'm thinking of the following:

CPU: Intel Core i3-9100 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock B365M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

Looking for suggestions for an alternate AMD build as well cases I can use for a 6 drive build.

  4. HELP!! I had a disk go bad on my server (disk 5 marked with an X and contents emulated). I was running dual parity and for some reason (read BRAIN F**T) I stopped the array, replaced the bad diskl with the Parity 2 disk and started the array again thinking I will go back to single parity and have the disk 5 rebuilt. BUT after restarting the array it hasn't started rebuilding the disk and still shows disk 5 as X with contents emulated. Attaching the server logs here.

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks!

  5. I recently moved my unraid h/w from my old case to a new silvertone case with hot swap drive bays about a week back. Since then whenever I try to write something to the array the transfer speed fluctuates wildly and even fails sometime (reaching 0 MB/s).  At the same time I see these errors popup in the logs:

Can someone shed some light on this. Is this a bad cable connection I need to look at. Seems thee errors are always on ata2. If it's a loose / bad SATA cable causing the issue - which drive should I be looking at?

  6. Sorry for the delayed response. I was unable to work on the system till now.

So I switched cables around. Parity  seems to be working now but disk 1 shows as disabled now.

I performed the above steps again and attaching the logs here. Should I be running filesystem check now (if so - how?) OR should I repeat above steps again after trying to reseat disk1?
