  1. you might want to try this. But first the disclaimer: I am not sure if this would be fully support in UnRaid, in other words i don't know what affect these settings might have on other features or modules you have loaded in your particular Unraid server. Remember if you break it you bought it! start a terminal session enter: cd /etc/samba <enter> enter: vi smb-shares.conf Locate: the share you would like to "Hide" for example I would like to hide the "USB-2" share this is what the stanza looks like in smb-shares.conf [uSB] path = /mnt/user/USB read only = No comment = Attached USB Drive [uSB-2] path = /mnt/user/USB-2 read only = No comment = Attached USB drive in the USB-2 stanza under the "read only = NO" enter the following path = /mnt/user/USB-2 read only = No browseable = No comment = Attached USB drive then save your file ":wq" Now restart samba In this case I have not figured out how to do that with out restarting the whole server. So that's what I would recommend is to restart the whole server. You can do this for all the shares and see if that solves your problem. Good Luck Sideband Samurai
  2. Hi everyone, I have a simple Unraid server with 1 Parity and 2 two TB drives. I am copying files to the first drive and the first drive now has the following folders: Movies Music TV the second drive does not have any of these folders. the first drive has now reached its high water mark of 50% but has not created the folders Movies Music Tv on Drive-2. It's essentially blank. I have a USB drive connected to the server's USB port and i am copying media from this USB drive directly to /mnt/Drive1/Movies using Midnight Commander. How do I tell unraid to make the directory on the second drive (Drive2) when Drive 1 has reached the 50% point. Will it hurt the system or cause problems if I manually created the above folders on drive 2? I know that the Unraid software will create these folders as needed on any of the other drives when copying through the network share. Is there something that is updated to tell Unraid that a Movies folder exists on Drive-2? Thanks for the help! Sideband Samurai
  3. Thanks for such a quick response, I can understand your suggesting less PS, because right now there is only 3 drives. This is just a start, and I am planning on adding more drives down the road, and using the ICyDoc's 5 in 3 Drive bays for a Maximum of 15 drives. do you still think I should cut down on the power supply and if so what would you recommend. Also If the processor is too powerful what would you recommend for that also. thanks for the help. Sincerely, Sideband Samurai

  5. Hi Everyone, It looks like the "BIOSTAR TA785G3HD" is no longer stocked and might actually be out of production. Might I suggest the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135241 which is an ECS (EliteGroup) A785GM-M microATX Motherboard It has the same number of SATA ports as the original suggested board. Also it also looks like the "SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SEE-O LGA 775 Intel G43 ATX Intel Motherboard" Might also be out of production. It looks like a compatible replacement for that board might be the SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SBC-Q-O LGA 775 Intel Q35 ATX Intel Motherboard which is located at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182151 Raj, Thanks for all the suggestions, they are great! 6. Yea, I see what you mean, Let me defend this for a moment: Removing the Scsi plane is really easy, takes about 5 minutes. Advantages: 2 PSU at 320w each, both load balanced. Optional third one for redundancy as a hot spare. Maximum of 4GB ram. That should be enough Video card has 4mb ram so no 3d gaming here. I don't need very powerful CPU's to run the server software, and it has two xeon pentium III It can support 7 or 8 drives. I could upgrade the network card by installing a Gigabit PCI card install a SATA card to support the hard drives. Yes, this is PCI, and its slow but from what i read about this monster, it actually has TWO pci bus paths divided between 7 PCI slots. That has to be worth something in performance. Disadvantages It will be noisy. Very noisy could suck lots of power. How much I have no idea. For that matter, what about these 40TB monsters I have seen built, what is the maximum power draw on something like that. Its heavy, with out drives its 115 lbs. Its big about twice as big as your normal full tower. Thanks again for all your thoughts. Sincerely, Sideband Samurai
  7. I really do apologize, I forgot the links to documentation and a picture... First the Picture: http://www.sparrowtec.com/images/products/dell4400-2.jpg Now the documentation: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe4400/en/index.htm Thanks for the feedback. Sideband Samurai
  8. Just a thought: How about using an old Dell Poweredge 4400 server as an Unraid server. I have one of these in my garage it has two xeon PIII processors and I forget what memory it has. I can remove the SCSII backplane and install SATA drives. I know that this beast can be really noisy so maybe not it would not be such a good choice. but i was thinking of what to do with the hardware beside using it as a boat anchor. Thanks for the feedback. Sideband Samurai
