  1. I have the "unRAID Share" set to: /mnt/disks/mythtv/recordings

and the "unRAID mount tag" set to: shares

    I have added the line:

    shares  /mnt    9p  trans=virtio,version=9p2000.L,noauto,nobootwait,rw    0  0

You neeed to add the share name after the mount point (/mnt) and also try adding  the parameter _netdev to mount the share on boot.  Try

    shares   /mnt/shares 9p  trans=virtio,version=9p2000.L,_netdev,noauto,nobootwait,rw    0   0

Also I don't have the noauto and no boot wait parameters, so you may want to try booting without them.

  2. So during the install, was it a GUI-based install and everything looked fine, but then after the install, it now is only showing you a terminal session over RDP?  Please share your XML from your VM here so I can see exactly how it's configured.

I installed Ubuntu server (server installs without a desktop) everything is fine.  When I clicked the VNC eyeball icon, I could access whatever desktop the manager uses.  I then installed VNC4Server and the Xfce desktop which desktop I can connect to, but I lost the ability to connect to the original desktop which is no big deal as I have the Xfce desktop.  What I would like is to be able to see the entire boot process to a login command line as in Xen. (I'm a Xen refugee.)  I hope this makes sense.

    VM Xml is attached.

  3. After successfully installing Ubuntu Server 14.04 I have apparently hosed the built-in VNC desktop.  The VNC desktop freezes at "Stopping System V run level compatibility [OK]"  The VM has finished booting and I can access a Xfce desktop I've installed.  Any suggestions to restore/trouble shoot the built-in VNC desktop? BTW, is there a way to see the boot up outside of the manager using a terminal?  I've attached a screen shot of the VNC desktop.

  4. I attempted to convert a Xen Ubuntu 14 server image to KVM and found the instructions in the above link (as far as I can tell) doesn't apply to Ubuntu. I couldn't find the /etc/config/kernel file in my paravirtualized installation.  If I'm mistaken, let me know as I would love to convert my current image to KVM.

That should be "/etc/syconfig/kernel"  Which I couldn't find.

  5.

The reality is that converting from Xen to KVM is dependent on whether we're talking about HVM guests (mainly Windows) or paravirtualized guests (Linux-only).  With PV guests, converting is more involved.  I added the steps required to the wiki:

    http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Manual_6#Converting_VMs_from_Xen_to_KVM

It ultimately links to a guide on OpenSUSE's site, but as I indicate in the wiki, only certain steps need be performed.  For Windows-based Xen VMs, the process is going to be a little more involved, but I'm working on a guide.

  6. I have a Ubuntu VM running on Xen and a few cron jobs on the VM backing up some files to my array. I've installed postfix on the Ubuntu VM and the cron jobs send mail to the local Ubuntu user.  I'm trying to configure postfix to send the emails via my ISP's smtp server so I don't t need to log into my VM to see the emails.  I've configured postfix to use my ISP's smtp as a relay but no-local emails are bounced back with a "sender domain" not found which is understandable as the sender is "myname@ubuntu."  How do I configure postfix and/or the Ubuntu VM to have a resolvable sender domain address?

    • We are still investigating cpu scaling issue with Haswell cpu's, and have removed a 'patch' that seems to have been responsible for some users reporting kernel crashes.

This may have no relation to the above, but I have a  2.6 GHz AMD Athlon II X4 CPU in a  ASUS M4N68T-M-V2 motherboard. Dashboard shows my CPU always at 2600 MHz. CPU utilization flucuates as expected. I checked the bios and "Cool and Quiet "is enabled.    Any suggestions?

  7. For a variety of reasons I swapped out my old power supply and case.  Upon starting Unraid, my network speeds were incredibly slow.  I tried replacing the cable, still the same.  Videos which previously played were taking ever to open and badly stuttering.  I did run ethtool and it showed the NIC at 1 Gig speed.  I had a 1 Gig NIC card lying around so I disabled the onboard NIC and installed it and everything's fine.  I didn't bother to wear an anti-static strap so could a static discharge have caused this slow down? The onboard NIC still connected, just incredibly slow. Just curious.?

  8. Getting an email about log rotations not working:

    Same here.

  9. I've been getting a lot of read errors on this parity drive so I finally swapped it out with a new one.  Rebuilt parity, checked parity, no errors.  I'm returning the drive to Microcenter.  Just wondering, the problem drive is a WD Red.  Any other users have any problems with theses drives or did I just get a lemon?

  10. I stopped the array, unassigned the parity drive, then re-assigned and rebuilt parity.  I then did a parity check which found over 500 sync errors which were corrected.  I then started another parity check which is still finding. sync errors.  Could this be caused by bad ram?  Should I run memtest?  Thoughts?

  11. I recently replaced my failing 1T parity disk with a 2T disk.  Parity rebuilt and I did a parity check which showed 1 sync error which was corrected.  After a few weeks with no problems there appeared a log entry showing 108 read errors on the parity disk.  I haven't noticed any other problems, the read errors haven't re-appeared and I was wondering if this is something I should be concerned about?  I did a smart report on the parity drive and it seems ok.  Smart report and syslog attached.  Thanks.
