  1. Hi,

I have an issue for the last few releases where on my docker tab when I click "check for updates" it just spins forever.

I have searched on this and one possible reason is pihole - I run a pihole on a ri-pi and another via unraid-docker.  However in Unraid network settings DNS settings I manually put in 1.1.1.1 for primary and 8.8.8.8 for secondary so it should bypass pihole (my Asus merlin router points toward pihole DNS).

I'm looking for other ideas on how to troubleshoot?  I am on latest version 6.12.9.

    thanks

Some testing I read a couple of years back showed 2-3% performance loss with a RTX 2080TI, RTX 3070 when using PCI-E 3.0 X8 vs X16.

The T400 has a fraction of the cuda cores (approx 7% of a RTX 3070) so there should be no bottleneck at x8 with rendering functions.

I assume the T400 will mostly be converting 4K to other formats so the maximum throughput for that has to be less than your HDD max transfer rate which is already exceeded by PCI-E 2.0 x1.

X4 on the LSI will work, though if you have it fully populated with higher performance drives, there may so capping of performance during parity verification or a rebuild.

I have a GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 I've owned from new, board still works great, ran it 24/7 for 12 months doing some crypto mining with spare GPU's recently with no issues at all. Now it's back to being a bench board as it's great for flashing other cards in etc, as it has a nice simple BIOS, none of this UEFI nonsense!

thanks, yes the T400 is for any transcoding (mainly via Emby) needs.

agree on the bios.  I hooked up a monitor to it for the first time in years to check the LSI firmware.   I went into the Z68 bios and it was a step back in time - only a few menus to go through.  keyboard control, etc.

    Hi,

The T400 has minimal requirements but likely a board of this age expects it in the top slot so it's fine there.

If it's recognised I would put the LSI in the x16 slot thats is x8 electrically  (shared with VGA), that will maximise the bandwith to the drives for a PCI-E 2 x8 card.

    PCI-E 2.0 x1 is 500MBps while SATA 3.0 is 600MBps

As a rough rule, you can support ~2 modern SATA HDD per PCI-E lane, or 1 x SATA SSD without significant impact.

    X4 likely OK, X8 better.

SATA SSD are also prefered on the motherboard as I seem to remember Trim doesn't work fully on the old LSI SAS cards.

thanks.  I put the LSI in the x4 as the manual said if you put something in the x8 it will share with the x16 and they will both run at x8.  So not sure if that limits the t400

i know I am on borrowed time with the z68.  Who would have guessed 10 years running unraid on this board with no issues..

  4. Hi,

I am getting ready to add a few drives and bought LSI SAS 9211-8i card (and got it working after figuring out the 'tape mod').

my build is quite old (but working ok) with a Gigabyte GA-Z68A-DH3-B3 motherboard.   Before adding any thing I started to wonder if I had things plugged into optimal slots.

The MB has 2 6GB SATA ports, and 4 3GB SATA ports.   I currently have all 6 ports used (1 ssd cache drive and 5 HDD including parity).

In regards to PCIe slots, the board is version 2.  I have a nvidia T400 in the x16 top slot.

I put the LSI card into the X16 "x4" slot.

Then I realized I was not sure if I was bottlenecking something.  It looks like a PCIe X4 version 2 has a 2GB/s speed which would be slower than any of the onboard SATA slots.

Assume I should have the SSD in the onboard 6GB port?   And if I add a 2nd SSD for dual cache I should use the other 6GB onboard.

For HDDs -   will I see a performance difference using onboard 3GB/s port versus the LSI card sharing a 2GB/S PCIe 4x slot?

thanks for any comments / suggestions on how to configure this.

Also consider a transcoding path outside the docker image. I have mine use RAM (to minimize SSD writes) but a path to a cached share works as well.

NOTE 1: Emby will create the subdirectory transcoding-temp under your specified path. (In my case that's /dev/shm/transcoding-temp)

NOTE 2: As an alternative to the nightly restart I've written a monitoring script:

SCRIPT TO KEEP EMBY'S TRANSCODING DIRECTORY FROM FILLING UP

Thanks.  Unfortunately my situation is like the one in the link you shared ..   Livetv related and one huge 100gb+ file grows.

  6. Hi,

I have had an issue for years where my emby transcoding file fills up my docker image on the cache drive.  Each time I have to delete docker and reinstall the apps.   This is due to roku not being closed down correctly (hitting home button instead of back button to exit emby roku app).   However- I'll never get others in the house to do this correctly so need a different solution.

Is there a way I can set it up for Emby Docker to just restart at 3am each night for example?  this should shut down any transcoding.   or other ideas?

    thanks

  7. Hi - not sure where to post this so apologies if it needs to be moved.

I  have started to look into getting a few security cameras outside and would like to be able to use my Unraid server to store the videos versus a paid cloud solution.   I am looking for some advice on a few things..

--I have read that there could be issues with security cameras always keeping the dives spinning/writing.   I have a spare 120gb ssd- could I just put this in and have the cameras write to it?  I do not care much about having the data backed up.

--what software systems are recommended ?  I have read on others setting up 'blue iris' as a windows VM.   Are there other recommendations on the best software solution compatible with Unraid?

-and finally- not very unraid specific, but are there security camera recommendations that would be compatible with the unraid hardware solution ?  I assume cameras such as Ring have propriety solution and you are stuck with the cloud.

    thanks!

Did you ever figure anything out about this? I've got the same problem and I can also determine it's not an UnRaid issue but a Win10 one. I have the same problem copying to my unraid server and to my windows based media server. And it started happening about the same time your problem did so I'm figuring it's an update that's causing the issue.

    Hi,

no - never fixed it.  I still can't copy to any of the top level directories.

I also built a new windows 10 PC / fresh install etc and it has the same issue.

    good luck!

  9. thanks - I tried quite a few of this with no luck.

I ran the docker-permissions tool to reset share permissions.

I also uninstalled SMB1.0 from windows 10 as I read recently that Unraid upgraded it's SMB support.

no luck.   For any of my top level directories I cannot copy files- but if I open any directory I can then drag/drop and copy a file into it.

    any other suggestions?

    thanks

  10. Hi,

I just noticed an issue when trying to copy a file from a windows 10 PC to unraid via explorer.  I could not copy to any folder (the red circle with slash through it).

I rebooted the windows 10 PC, then the unraid server. Upgraded from 6.8.1 to 6.8.2.  Still no luck.

Then I tried going into a sub directory and was able to copy.   For example - I can't copy to \movies but I can copy to \movies\action.

I have not changed anything in ages on the unraid server (settings, etc) -but I checked anyway my user permissions on the share it was OK.

the only thing I can think of is over the last week the new windows 10 version 1909 installed-  could that have changed something that does not allow copying to a top level directory?

    ideas?

    thanks

also - just checked on windows 10PC and SMB 1.0 was still enabled...figured maybe something to do with SMB.

  11. Hi - issues playing .mp4 from emby IOS (connecting to unraid docker).   Luke @ emby forum was helping troubleshoot and in the end he recommended installing emby docker from their site to fix issues with ffmpeg.

    https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/54841-issue-playing-mp4/?p=532343

as I have only ever installed dockers from Unraid gui, can anyone here first tell me why this docker won't play the file correctly ?   is there a different unraid emby docker (I see a binhex one also?) that would work?

    thanks

  12. yes, from a fresh install

agree it looks like the binlog not uncommented (but it is - see screenshot)

I used the mc editor to do it. just checked using notepad++ and it says 'unix' at the bottom, that was other thought was wrong format file.

    also did the chown 644.

    thanks

got it working!  not sure how.  stopped dockers, reopened the config file using notepad++, resaved, reapplied chown, restarted dockers and ran the webgui

thanks again for all of the help today
