  1. Ooh, good idea. I'l backup the (small amount of) important stuff 😃
  2. I have a spare PC at the moment whose hardware is better than what's currently in my Unraid box (4590T, 8GB DDR3 vs 10400, 16GB DDR4). I've read that a CPU/mobo swap is relatively straightforward; backup appdata and USB stick, swap hardware, turn on, profit. However, the spanner in the works is that I'm using a SAS card and was wondering whether that might complicate things. It's an AOC-SAS2LP-MV8. I appreciate that this particular card can cause problems (not that I've experienced any thus far...touch wood), but is there anything extra I might need to keep in mind?
  3. First off, thanks for the template spaceinvaderone! I'm having a little play around at the moment and it all seems to work fine. Just 1 camera so far, but looking to add at least 2 more. I'm wondering though whether it's possible to use Pushover for notifications? I'm sure I read somewhere that Shinobi does support it, but I can't find the option in this particular version.
  4. Just wanted to pop by and say that "Time Machine support via SMB" looks like it's fixed an issue I had. Previously, TM would only work for a couple of weeks before throwing up a verification error, forcing me to create a fresh "initial" backup which, even over ethernet, took multiple hours to backup <500GB of data. It's currently been a month since my initial backup and touch wood, it's still working ok.
  5. Cool, cheers for the info johnnie. I'll just let it do it's thing overnight.
  6. Finally got a replacement drive (attempt 3, the second one was 2nd hand with 29000 hours on the clock!). Just started a preclear. Couple more questions; 1. How long (roughly) would a rebuild take? All 5 drives are 3TB, 3 of which are about 95% full and the drive that failed only had about 8GB of data on it. 2. If it's going to be a lengthy rebuild process is there any way to skip it and not recover the data? I'm not bothered about the files that were lost... Thanks.
  7. Wow, ok, RMA time then. Luckily it's Amazon and I've had good experiences with RMAing stuff with them.
  8. Hi all! I've been using unRAID for a couple of years now with zero issues. I've just bought a new drive as I was running out of space. Ran a preclear (1 cycle) which passed, so I added the drive to the array. It's just attempted it's weekly parity check which failed (aborted) and the new drive is now listed as Faulty. Thing is, I've never had any problems before so I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to do here. unRAID is telling me there's a Current Pending Sector. I've attached the SMART report if someone could shed some light on what it all means. WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WCC4N5AZ2USX-20180612-0252.txt
  9. Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm having a related issue. I've followed your steps, got the floppy.img and Windows setup can now see/format the vHDD. The problem is the next step where Windows tries to copy the setup files to the HDD, I'm getting an error stating that it can't copy the viostor.sys file (Enter to retry, ESC to skip etc). I've tried 2 different floppy images with the same results. I've also tried the file in different locations on my server (cache drive, user share) but just keep getting the same error. [edit] I slipstreamed the drivers into an XP.iso image and managed to get through the first part of the XP install, however, upon reboot I just get a BSOD followed by a restart. If I shut down the VM and edit the XML changing the HDD type to ide it boots fine, but now I'm unable to install the proper virtio drivers (it says it's installed, but upon reboot there's an issue and my 2nd vHDD isn't detected). I'm also missing other misc drivers (network, VGA etc). I know there's a wiki/guide for installing Win7 as a VM, but does one exist for XP? I don't need the bells and whistles of Win7 and prefer the (by comparison) light nature of Windows XP.
  10. Wow, I didn't even see the 'Update Plugin' button on that page! Thanks for the help buddy. OS/dockers/plugins updated and everything is up and running again, all within 10 minutes :-)
  11. So I've had my Unraid box running for a good 6 months or so now with no problems. It's humming along nicely doing exactly what I want it to do, but after checking Limetechs site and discovering that v6 is now out of beta, I want to upgrade. What's the best procedure for this? Can I upgrade directly from beta12?
  12. The photos are of the case you're using? There's space on the rear of your case for x2 80mm fans...
  13. Hey, thanks for the reply man. Good to know than an i3 will do the job. I'll probably spend the extra and go for one of those low 35W rated models to keep the consumption down. In terms of a cache drive I'm not going to be using SSD for this - I'm actually thinking a 250GB ish 5400rpm that can be spun up constantly (maybe even a WD green). Like I said, I only want to use it as a download drive, not an actual cache. As for the case, I'm still probably gonna go with the rack mount (unless anyone has bad words to say about Logic Case). While I'll be only starting out with around 6TB, I'm really not sure how fast I'll end up filling it and need to expand. My problem at the moment is that I've been very conscious about only have 3TB available and have been managing the space since I first got the NAS (deleting things after I'm done with them etc). The beauty of having that quantity of drive bays is that I can just pop in another drive when space is running low, so I may actually end up filling it fairly quickly.
  14. Hey all, first post! Woop! After doing a lot of reading about FreeNAS I've decided that unRAID is probably the way to go. The main reason; the ability to add drives later. I'm wanting to set up a small (6TB or so to begin with) NAS that can also run sab/SB/CP/Transmission to handle my media downloads (will probably also run that XMBC wotnot that updates the library). Currently I'm just using a D-Link Sharecenter purely as a NAS, while my little Acer Revo OpenELEC box handles playback and nzb/torrent downloads but figured I might as well combine the NAS and downloading into one box so I can shut down the XBMC box when I'm not using it. Just wanted to get some recommendations regarding hardware and some advice on the software. I'll be wanting it to be fast enough to handle sab and give me fast a throughput, but also be fairly economical with its power consumption. I'm figuring a low powered i3 would be fine for this? 8GB RAM would be more than enough, right? Plus I'm thinking WD reds purely for the extended warranty. On the software side of things I'm curios about the cache disk and wondering if something could be set up in a similar vein, acting purely as a scratchdisk for downloads? My current XBMC box has a 64GB SSD which I use for temporary downloads (and a place to leave uploading torrents) as to not 'disturb' the NAS and wake up the drive when it's not needed. Ideally, all downloads would be stored on this cache drive first, with SAB moving them to the correct location in the array on completion, with torrents left on there while I seed. My only concern going forward is that this drive would take up one of the 21 available through unRAID. Correct? Also, while I'm here, has anyone got any experience with Logic Case rack mount cases? Servercase are selling a 16 bay 3U case for £230 (£195 with free shipping if you buy from their eBay store) which seems like a pretty good price to me. Well, in comparison to my original idea; Sharkoon case (£35) plus x3 Icy Dock 5-in-3 cages (£80 each). Yeah, I know I don't need 3 cages to begin with, but in the long run it'd be cheaper getting a 'proper' rack mount chassis. Sorry if this is all a bit rambly and/or you're sick of answering these types of questions. Any help greatly appreciated. ;-) M
