  1. Right, forgot I’d come across that article. So here it shows directions on how to do so via Windows. Is there a way via Unraid or am I better off buying a cheap graphics card? Would that for whatever reason allow me to figure out why my 10tb isn’t working (showing in HBA) or is that a separate issue? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hey all, thanks for the guidance so far. Here's where I'm at: In my motherboard settings, went into advanced, then went down to Legacy Bios and disabled it for the time being to troubleshoot. Ii was previously enabled. I also in Boot, Boot Configuration under Boot Logo Display it reads "Full Screen" and right below it says Post Delay Time as 5 seconds. Also, CSM (Compatibility Support Module Configuration) is still greyed out and defaults to Disabled under Launch CSM though I can't change it or select anything. Additionally, in the motherboard BOOT settings under Option ROM Messages I made sure Force BIOS was selected. Finally, in looking at the motherboard BIOS settings, I'm on the latest BIOS, 1203 with a build date of 10/27/2021. At this point, I'm stumped. Still unable to get into HBA BIOS either. Tempted to change out the motherboard for an Asus Z590, though don't know what that would accomplish. Still partially convinced that the seller of the hard drive, by chance the drive got damaged in shipping and I should just return it and get another one and try that one out.
  3. I’ll try this when I get home tonight or tomorrow from work. TheArtofServer responded to me on eBay with the following: “Most SAS-3 HDDs should work with SAS-2 controllers. The only exception I know of are some Seagate SAS-3 drives with buggy firmware that won't negotiate to lower protocols. I avoid Seagate for many reasons, this being one of them. The problem of not being able to get into the LSI ROM program with Ctrl-C might be caused by the system booting UEFI mode instead of BIOS mode. If you are in UEFI mode, your UEFI system menu should have a HII section that allows you to see the LSI card (as I also have the UEFI ROM loaded on these cards). If you don't have a HII, then you might need to try to set the motherboard in BIOS mode, at least for testing purposes.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Not sure, can't seem to find that in the bios manual. https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/13MANUAL/PRIME_PRO_TUF_GAMING_Intel_500_Series_BIOS_EM_WEB_EN.pdf. Is there another name that might be under? Would it be making sure the HBA boots and not tries to boot from the HBA?
  5. Hmm, not sure what it is then. I thought it could be that the drive is dead. The seller assured me that it was working at the time of shipping it. I had also thought that since my controller is 6gbps and the drive is 12gbps that it wouldn't work because of that, but in posting in a UnRaid Facebook group others have gotten that to work with no issue. Also, I am unable to access the HBA bios as it's not showing up following POST. I learned about using Control + C but even then nothing is happening, it just goes into the motherboard bios. The motherboard bios just says there's one SAS drive connected and there should be 2 connected. I attached the tower diagnostics zip and syslog text. I think I'm just bummed, as I love UnRaid as a concept, I just haven't quite gotten to see it's full potential yet. tower-diagnostics-20220218-1150.zip syslog.txt
  6. Added a 10tb SAS drive, isn’t being recognized as it’s SAS 3 and I think my HBA tops at 6gbps instead of 12 gbps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Didn’t see the two other ports, only counted 8. Does the case have room for more 3.5 inch drives? I had thought it took 13 3.5 inch drives? Slick looking build none the less. How did you decide on your motherboard? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Can’t upload pics at the moment, will do soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hi all, thought I'd post my build and get some feedback as well. Mind you I'm a complete noob though have followed the technology of UnRaid for several years. Finally getting around to building a server. Right now I'm running the following: Intel i5 10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz Processor Asus Prime B560-Plus Motherboard 2 sticks of Crucial 8GB 2666 MHz RAM for 16 GB total A 6TB SAS drive with a 10TB SAS drive on the way A SATA drive 256gb or 1TB from MicroCenter planning to use as a cache drive Samsung Flash Drive 1100 (32GB) for my boot drive of UnRaid Genuine LSI 6Gbps SAS HBA LSI 9211-8i (=9201-8i) P20 IT Mode I plan to use this server for media (TV and Movies), backups of my computer (MacBook Pro) and backup my photos and videos from my phone. At the moment it'll be used for backing up via Time Machine and backing up photos and videos from my phone. That's my initial goal that I hope to meet in the coming weeks. Things to Do add PCIE M.2 3 SSD upgrade drives from SAS to SATA over time Enable iGPU Enable CSM Here’s some notes I had in my phone too that might be of interest. I also ended up installing and getting the HBA card to work so that’s solved. 2/2/22 Installed HBA card, had to remove bracket, used cables and not recognized by Unraid or bios (sees LSI card though). Maybe see about this link https://forums.unraid.net/topic/92788-solved-hba-attached-drives-not-showing-up-in-unraid/ 8482 connector to 8087 breakout cable for sata hard drives 1/24/22 Ordered Genuine LSI 6Gbps SAS HBA LSI 9211-8i (=9201-8i) P20 IT Mode ZFS FreeNAS unRAID from Art of Server to connect SAS drives. 1/31/22 Installed HBA card, had to remove bracket off HBA card to install it, stupid case. HBA card is: Genuine LSI 6Gbps SAS HBA LSI 9211-8i (=9201-8i) P20 IT Mode ZFS FreeNAS unRAID Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. With 8 sata ports where do you connect your other drives? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I like the look of this case, not sure how good it is but looks promissing.
  12. I have the N400 case, things are really tight, I don’t like it overall, wish it was roomier. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. So I went ahead and troubleshooted. Turns out I have 1 SAS drive working and my SATA SSD drive working, all the rest appear to be dead drives. Also might have to enlist the help of a friend as trying to remove the drives on my case is a pain, the backside has the place where my 2.5 inch SSD drive is and then brackets and such that make it really hard to each in and unscrew the plastic things that are keeping the drives in. I think I’ll need a second pair of hands and also some more SAS drives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
