  1. My experience has been that 1080P HD streams seem to present their set of unusual problems when steaming. Even 720P steams are much more forgiving. And the higher the data rate in those 1080P streams, the worst the problems are. (With the VLC player, I have issues streaming 1080P mp4 video and none with 720P mp4 video across the network.) You seem to have isolated the problem to your network. Now the problem is to try to figure out how to eliminate the problem. I would probably start by using the 100' cat5E cable to feed the netgear switch in the living room. Then replace that switch if the cable isn't the problem. Well its definitley 1080p stuff I primarily stream full copy BDMV folders. Ive been using that particular switch for months though with no issue. But thats how things go lol.
  2. Update: Havent had a bunch of time to spend troubleshooting but I have a 100' cat5e cable running from my Dune in the living room to my router in my office. So far no issues going that way yet I have issues when plugged into the netgear switch in the living room. No issues, with the other devices plugged into that switch however the Dune is the highest bandwidth device. Xbox One is used for netflix etc it would,be 2nd highest. Ill keep updated. Odd this happened after upgrading the server to V6
  3. I have that stuff laying around lol. I will try that suggestion. Right now the setup is a Netgear R8000 router in my office l hooked to a Netgear prosafe 24 port in the basement which feeds my house via patchpanel. In the livingroom is a Netgear prosafe 16 port for my entertainment center which is what the Dune is hooked to. Unraid is in the basement hooked to the 24 port. I have an HP Procurve 24 port laying here that not being used Ill give your suggestion a try. Current configuration Server is Asus F1A75-Vpro AMD 3870k 4 core 3.3GHz processor, 4GB DDR3, Intel Pro1000 NIC, LSI 16 port controller, 4 Seagate 3TB 7200 drives, 1 Seagate 4TB 5900 drive, cache pool consisting of 1 Seagate 500gb 7200 and 1 seagate 320gb 7200. All in a Norco 4224 chasis. Oh and if it matters i have 2 more 4TB seagate 5900s that are in the chassis but not currently assigned one is preclearing now actually (not when i was doing tests)
  4. Well I have no idea why I had like a 45 minute window where the problem seemed to be gone. Now its right back to screwing up just as bad as it was with the realtek. Even if you pause the movie and resume it will not recover and stop skipping. How are the forums not on fire with this issue? Surely I'm not the only one still using a Dune HD? I'm going to see if its primarily movies from 1 disc next. Is there any logs or something that might give a clue as to the problem?
  5. Well i take it back. Still stuttering, but not nearly as bad or nearly as often. This really sucks i was really enjoying version 6. Any other suggestions other than rolling back to version 5?
  6. Even though attribute 1 says Failing Now? Didn't notice that since that is not an attribute we usually monitor. Ok so ill toss this drive. Thanks man!

  8. What exactly do you mean by "paused". Post a screenshot. Looks like I was wrong. Whem i posted earlier the timer was not progressing on the second disc or vice versa. Now it seems both timers are progressing but the samsung drive is 1 MB/s and not reporting temp correctly. Both drives were sitting on my desk all night long and should have been exact dame temp but they werent when i placed them in the chasis. The samsung hasnt budged off 13 degrees and i know ambient is higher than that. I suppose I'll scrap that drive? All 3 of these drives were out of older computers i had lying around. Figured I would use 2 of them as a cache pool and add the current 4TB cache drive to the array as a data. Screen shot attached via teamviewer im not home.
  9. I assigned them exactly as they were in v5. Was i not supposed to do that? I formated flash, unzipped v6 onto flash, placed .key file into config folder as well as the other config files listed in the wiki and my shares config folder. I didn't copy anything else. I'm not doing anything fancy with my unit it's just a NAS. Thanks guys. I'll let it run. Nothing wrong with that, but if you assigned the drives rather than bringing the existing configuration (in super.dat) forward you will not have a valid parity until unRAID has finished the parity sync. When the parity sync completes it is a good idea to start a parity check to ensure that the parity sync was done without error. O you make me feel so much better. Ok thank you. I did not copy the file you started over. I will do what you said run sync then a check. I also have one drive showing a warning but ill get the parity completed first. Thanks!

  11. Well I bought that controller garycase linked. Man that thing is awesome. I don't have it loaded up like you guys yet though. But I just plugged it in and everything worked. Absolutley no configuration. UnRaid saw the drives. Man these norco 4224 fans are noisy monsters but man do they move some air! Ran a 4TB parity hottest drive got to 28°C. Ran parity check on 5 drives, and a preclear on a 6th. Parity averaged 114 MB/s (it was 140 ish when I watched before going to bed) and the preclear is running 156 MB/s and the disk temp is 22° after 15 hours. I might look into less or quieter fans as obviously it's overkill. But it's going in the basement so maybe I don't care. Thanks for the help guys! Your awesome
  12. Awesome. Thanks for the info guys! So could a person use an expander card in a pci slot for power and use a sata 3 port on the motherboard? 8 drives to 1 sata 3 would be 700 mb/sec right? Or am I thinking about it wrong and that isn't done? Just trying to learn. I'll probably start by purchasing that card in your link. I assume it's known to work with UnRaid? I can look in the wiki
  13. Thanks for the help! Would something like this be advisable for the 16 port card? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=16-124-076 I can do more searching now that I know I need a controller and not just an expander. Thanks for any and all help! Andrew
  14. Sorry I'm a newb even though I've been using unRaid several years. I'm transfering my server from a stormtroooer CM case to a Norco 4224. Currently all 5 drives are connected to the motherboard but since I only have 6 onboard SATA connectors I'm going to need a controller or 2 for the other 5 backplanes. I see controllers and I see expanders. What is the best performing most cost effective option for me? Can unRaid use just expander cards or do they have to be hooked to a controller? I have 2 pci slots, 2 pci-e x1 slots, and 2 pci-e x16 slots. Obviously I would rather leave a x16 slot open in case I ever want to run a video card in the future. Also, all my drives are equal to or greater than 3 TB Help a newb out. What should I buy. Thanks guys
