  1. I hadn't seen this! You developers keep raising the bar and I can't keep up sometimes 🙂 Thank you - I will have a look. I had previously been using he Libvert HotPlug USB plugin but that needed me to physically add the devices each time which caused me a few issues when I was at work and the kids needed the computer! Could save me buying a new MB. Thank you
  2. I currently have a B450 Tomahawk Max with a Ryzen 7 3700x and have successfully been running two VMs (MacOS and Win 10) that can be used simultaneously with two graphics cards, monitors keyboards etc. My use situation is the two monitors / keyboards are used to dock work laptops but then I have a keyboard switch on each to allow the same keyboard / mouse to be used on a VM under Unraid. As the VM's don't really cope with hot plugging of USB devices properly I need the USB controller passed through to each machine. Recently I got an Oculus Rift and a PCIe USB card which was passed through to the Windows 10 using the VFIO PCI config options. The size of the graphics cards and PCI slot locations means that I can't plug anymore cards in. I need most USB ports for the Windows 10 machine so have passed through the PCI USB3 card as above and then pass through individual devices for each VM machine. The actual motherboard seems to only have two USB groups available to split out and pass through. I keep one for the Unraid USB and this groups also has most of the other USB ports attached so individual peripherals devices which I can pass through and the second, smaller one which if I try and pass through ends up crashing my system and causing all sorts of corruption issues! I need to pass through a group to each VM so the keyboard switch can be used on each (and cope with hot plugging). Can any one suggest a motherboard that either can accept more PCI cards (and so another USB3 controller card) or preferably that is more configurable in terms of VFIO PCI groups. I hope that makes sense!
  3. I am a Mac user and have restored my flash drive a couple of times from backups on my Mac but it is a location being offered by unraid not a file as below in the image. I will have a look at the flash drive and see if it is shown on there somehow ?
  4. I was swapping over my graphics cards and may have knocked something in the case but after a couple of reboots (changing vfio settings), my system died. A HDD failed, which I am in the process of rebuilding onto a new matched drive so that part is ok.. My cache drive also seemed to drop out of existence. After checking cables etc it seems to have reappeared as an unmounted drive. If I stop the array I have the option of selecting it as the '._cache' or 'cache' drive. I have not noticed the '._cache' option before.... Either one tells me that the drive does not have a file system and so needs to be formatted. My app data is backed up so it is not the end of the world, but I am confused about the two locations and if there is anyway to recover what was on the cache it would be appreciated. Google doesn't really bring anything up for ._cache so here I am 🙂
  5. I am running an OSX VM on an SSD under UnRaid. I would like to back up some of my files (not the whole VM) to the array and then on to a Synology NAS as a sort of three location backup (icloud / OS X, array, Synology NAS). The array to NAS is fine - there are plenty of options and I am happy with that part. Initially I was looking at mounting the array into the VM and then using something like chronosync to back up the files but it seems to put quite a load on the VM.... then I thought about time machine but backing up a time machine image to the NAS makes me nervous as if it corrupts, I wouldn't know..... similar thoughts with Duplicati as it creates encrypted files So, I am just wondering what the most efficient process would be. The VM is on 24/7 as is UnRaid so I don't really have to worry about how long the backups take.
  6. I'd not thought about going to 6Gb. For some reason my mind works 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 for RAM! Thanks - I will give it a go. Mind you, I am not kidding myself and realise that there will be an update in the not too distant future...
  7. I am at a bit of a cross roads and would appreciate some advice. I currently run unraid on an i7 3770 Cpu and 16gb RAM. I have one OS X VM and a few dockers of which Plex is the heaviest used. I have found my memory is close to saturation point now (8gb allocated to the VM) so would like to add some more. However my mb only supports 16gb and i think the 3770 is possibly up there at the top of the compatibility list for the mb. So it is time to upgrade, but I am torn between finding a board that takes 32gb RAM and keeping everything else the same or taking the plunge on a cpu with more cores which will also mean a new board and some more RAM. I am not sure how beneficial the extra cores will be. I probably have at most three concurrent streams with plex and have seen it max out and hang but I think that is more down to the lack of RAM causing data to be written to disk. Of course If I do upgrade everything.... I then have to decide Intel v AMD!
  8. And that seems to be what it was! Thank you - I was becoming code blind staring at my XML trying to work out which but I had forgotten to change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hi, I did yes and was under the impression that it was just the bottom 'devices' section that needed to be added back in having watched a couple of his videos. I will go and do a bit more reading on his topic and see if I have missed something. Thank you
  10. Please could someone try and point me in the right direction with this - I am pulling what little hair I have left out 😞 My system is: Unraid 6.8.2 M/B: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. CM6330_CM6630_CM6730_CM6830_M11AA Version Rev x.0x BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. Version 0704. Dated: 04/17/2013 CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz HVM: Enabled IOMMU: Enabled Memory: 16 GiB DDR3 (max. installable capacity 16 GiB) Kernel: Linux 4.19.98-Unraid x86_64 GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 470 Diagnostics file is attached. Problem: I can install OSX as a VM using Spacinvaders great MacInABox docker. I can boot into the OS via VNC and then via Splashtop. If I then select the graphics card to pass through, the VM does not seem to boot properly. It has the little green play icon to indicate it has started but neither VNC or Splashtop work and there is no output on the external monitor. The graphics card works and Unraid can and has booted with it as the primary monitor. I have changed the BIOS settings to allow both the onboard GPU and the Radeon and set the onboard as primary (tried the other way round as well but it still didnt work). It seems like the VM is getting stuck but I can't see where and there are no meaningful logs that I can see. The VM log is: 2020-02-03 09:29:04.188+0000: starting up libvirt version: 5.10.0, qemu version: 4.2.0, kernel: 4.19.98-Unraid, hostname: LH1 LC_ALL=C \ PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin \ that most people say that the AMD GPU should just work and that it is Nvidia that needs tweaking. Thank you lh1-diagnostics-20200203-0914.zip
  11. Did you ever get to the bottom of this - I am in the same position. I set up an OSX VM using VNC and it worked. Installed an AMD RX470 card and passed it through and get a blank screen. Switch back to VNC and I get the above "Guest has not...." error. The OSX VM will not boot - I have splash top installed and it never gets that far 😞 VM logs show the same last four lines as above...
  12. I am running the LetsEncrypt docker and access a couple of dockers on my UNRAID server using https. I have now set up a Raspberry Pi with HomeAssistant on it and would like to be able to access it securely but am a bit confused about the whole ssl thing. Can I just copy the certificate across to the RPi from my UNRAID Server and then port forward on my router or do I need to run another instance of LetsEncrypt on the RPi? If I can copy it, is there an easy way to automate it every time the UNRAID docker upgrades? I have tired a bit of googlefu but I am not sure what I am actually asking!
  13. It really depends how many cameras you have and what sort of settings you use. I don't use the docker (I had a few problems getting it set up) but use a VM running Ubuntu Server 16.04 and a clean install of ZoneMinder 1.30. I have an AMD Phenom II X4 945 CPU and have allocated 1 core and 1GB RAM to the VM. My ZM has two IP cameras running at 1280 x 720 as Modect with a couple of zones each. My load very rarely goes over 0.6 (shown in ZM and reflected by the core use on the UnRaid dashboard). I would assume you will get similar results with a docker (but probably a lower load if it is sharing the CPU resources you have) I also run a Plex server and have had a couple of transcodes running at the same time without seeing any problems. Best thing to do is just give it a go - there are so many variables in ZM that can impact on how resource intensive it is and if it goes wrong, just delete the docker / VM and try again - thats the beauty of Unraid as far as I am concerned :-)
  14. My current unRAID box consists of an ASUSTeK M3N78-VM motherboard with 8GB RAM and an AMD Phenom II X4 945 @ 3000. I run 9 dockers - Plex, a couple of downloaders etc , crashplan and OpenVPN and also run a Ubuntu VM dedicated to Zoneminder. Most of the time, everything seems to run fine, and upgrading my cache disk to an SSD made quite a difference to the snappiness of Plex. Occasionally the CPU maxes out but I think that has been when plex has been streaming to one device and transcoding / syncing to another which is pretty rare. It seems to cope with two streams at once seems ok. I would like to start playing around with VM's and would really like to get OSX up and running so I can retire my dying MBP. However, every guide I have followed fails for one reason or another and I think a lot of it has to do with RAM. If I allocate the machine 4GB or more the VM fails and it just won't run with any less. (I need to keep the Ubuntu VM running as well which has one core and 1GB RAM allocated) My MB won't take any more RAM so I am trying to decide whether to: 1 - Upgrade to the best MB I can afford which is compatible with the AM3 socket chip I have and then gradually replace the RAM / CPU to better as and when I can afford it? 2 - Sell the lot on eBay and go for an Intel setup in which case do I go the a) Xeon or b) i5 / i7 route? I don't currently have the cash to blow on a top of the range box but could probably go £500 - £600 now or save for a couple more months and look around the £1000 to £1500 budget. My gut tells me that the intel route is the more sensible one but I don't really know why! I have been out of the PC chip world and reading about what is good and not for a few years and things really have moved on a pace!
  15. Can I just say I had very little sleep last night...... At least you have saved me trying for hours to work out what the conflict was
  16. Ok, thanks. I ended up changing the default port for the time being and that seemed to fix it. Must have been something else using port 80 but no idea what.. bit more digging tonight!
  17. I might have missed something very obvious here, but is there a default password for the Zoneminder docker? I have installed it previously and managed to get it working but decided on using a VM at the time. I would now like to give it another go but despite doing a fresh docker install it keeps prompting me for a password. I have tried every password I might have used but no luck I have also tried removing the docker and deleting the folder in my app data and reinstalling but still. If there isn't, how can I make sure all remnants of the old install are removed?
  18. I am new (ish) to unRAID and have so far been using the apps tab to install all my dockers. I would like to now install OpenZWave Control Panel as a docker and have found the following which suggest it is possible and available: https://hub.docker.com/r/openzwave/openzwave-control-panel/ https://github.com/mezz64/openzwave-controlpanel So after a lot of reading and head scratching I tried the following approach... Docker Tab > Add Container When I save it, it seems to pull the docker files and set itself up ok sometimes: root@localhost:# /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/scripts/docker run -d --name="OZWCP" --net="bridge" -e TZ="Europe/London" -p 8008:8008/tcp --device /dev/ttyACM0 mezz64/openzwave-controlpanel:latest 3f7271c6281c9031d03e063ca36cef1aa8ac08c664c5e32a9cee0402c209e059 The command finished successfully! but other times (without changing anything) I get: root@localhost:# /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/scripts/docker run -d --name="OZWCP" --net="bridge" -e TZ="Europe/London" -p 8008:8008/tcp --device /dev/ttyACM0 mezz64/openzwave-controlpanel:latest 818b8a713c6a42938612d659a18bec18c866aa1cdf6da92776a83f53e8cb2c7c Error response from daemon: Cannot start container 818b8a713c6a42938612d659a18bec18c866aa1cdf6da92776a83f53e8cb2c7c: adding interface vethaf37dbf to bridge docker0 failed: could not find bridge docker0: no such network interface The command failed. or root@localhost:# /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/scripts/docker run -d --name="OZWCP" --net="bridge" -e TZ="Europe/London" -p 8008:8008/tcp --device /dev/ttyACM0 mezz64/openzwave-controlpanel:latest 7b04c8be1535ebf5cd219f8b2e6653c89c8f5a957fa9adafa009d393f0a7ff37 Error response from daemon: Cannot start container 7b04c8be1535ebf5cd219f8b2e6653c89c8f5a957fa9adafa009d393f0a7ff37: Link not found The command failed. However, regardless of the outcome, I can't seem to open the WebUI or get any further. The docker log tells me: [31m2016-10-08 07:27:40.680 Error, Cannot find a path to the configuration files at ./config/, Using /etc/openzwave/ instead... I don't want to have to send my nice shiny Fibaro sensor back to Amazon
  19. Spants, you are a legend. I had to remove the old docker and directory for it to work. I did just try pulling the new build first and then running a NEWPERMS on the cache but it didn't work so I just removed everything and started again and it has connected from mqtt-spy on my Macbook to my unRaid server just fine. Now to have a play with OwnTracks and HomeAssist and see how I get on. Very happy - thank you.
  20. +1 from me. I'm new to unRaid, Dockers and Home Assistant so am learning everyday. I have just found this docker though and now I understand what it does, I am struggling to get it to work but from reading this it appears that it is because I store my docker file on my cache disk at /mnt/cache/appdata/ too. Would be great if it could work at this location. However if not, how easy is it to move my docker file (and will it mess up all my configs??)
  21. Thank you - that was the problem. There must have been a boot partition on the drive formatted as etx2. I managed to format the whole drive and now have all 400Gb as my cache. I have, however, now ended up with another problem... So far I have created two shares on the cache - VMs and appdata. I have also created a new docker image on the drive. I moved the content of my old appdata folder over and also a VM image. The VMs share shows 385Gb free which is about right. The appdata however shows 1.72Tb free which should be wrong as that is the total of my cache plus free space on the disk pool. Both are set to use cache disk only. I am concerned that as appdata seems to be pooling all space, I might end up writing to the disk pool rather than the cache which kind of defeats the object!
  22. I installed unRaid a few weeks ago without a cache drive and having now done a bit of reading, realised that it would benefit me to have a cache so have installed a 400GB 7200 SATA drive. I know its not ideal and I will probably upgrade to a SDD soon when funds allow... However, I started up the server, selected the relevant drive as the cache and now have two new shared folders for 'lost+found' and 'grub' and both have the little amber triangle next to them suggesting that they are not protected. Grub is full of mostly mod files that have modified dates from 2011. Have these both been created by unRaid or are they legacy files from the HDD that I can delete? (It was in an Ubuntu system prior to this as part of an LVM setup). I have also tried to create a new app data share on the drive but it keeps giving me a message telling me that the app data folder has been deleted after I create it - is this something do do with my old appdata folder being on the disk pool?
  23. Thanks CHBMB Ok - I assumed that unRAID was fairly secure, however not knowing how it all works, I shall close port 80 . I am only using 443 for the Owncloud docker which is a https connection - again it is an assumption but surely Owncloud is secure with a good password?. Also from the OpenVPN website https://docs.openvpn.net/frequently-asked-questions/ it appears I need 443 open anyway so how can I have it open for one but not the other? I have managed to get the OpenVPN docker working now anyway (very easy to do - big thank you to the author) so I will do some more testing with my router and try and get that working properly knowing that I can always fall back on the Docker.
  24. I would like to make my unRAID server more secure. At the moment I have ports 80 and 443 open on my router so I can access the unRAID web gui and owncloud from the big wide world. It is only a home server so nothing 'business critical'. I have a number of dockers I would like to access from elsewhere but don't want to open up all the ports and as I have DDWRT installed on my router, thought I would set up the OpenVPN server but it really is becoming a bit harder than I thought and I just can't get it to work. My question is, if I use the OpenVPN-AS docker which looks pretty straight forward to set up, will this be any less secure than persevering and setting it up on the router. I assume I will have to leave the OpenVPN-AS port open on the router and 443 for owncloud (unless I leave my iPhone constantly connected to the VPN?)
  25. Thanks METDeath. I have done a bit of googlefu and 'think' that the CPU is capable. Before I do take the plunge on a new motherboard, does any one know for sure? As you said , the AMD website isn't great and the Wikipedia page seems to suggest it is as do a few AMD forums. The way I see it, a new MB will cost the same as a couple of cheap IP cameras anyway (and be more expandable for the future )
