  1. allright, when you're gonna go the Virtual way, maybe read this topic, (it's long i know) http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14695.0 but maybe take another starting point (not only based on a specific cpu) how many drives do you want to start with? and to how many drives are you want to grow in the end? is the cpu and mainbord fully compatible with all the functions like hardware passthrough. Unraid as a virtual machine together with a few other VM's requires well chosen hardware and maybe makes your setup unnecessary difficult.
  2. Hello, nice cpu, but what are gonna do with a i7 cpu and Unraid? is this necessary? Multiple Virtual Machines project? in most cases you choose a low power / budget cpu because all that cpu power is mostly overkill Cpu-compability can be usually found on the websites of the manufacturers.
  3. maybe on the main page? :-) http://www.lime-technology.com/download
  4. Just giving some feedback on my rig with Beta 11 copy-ing and moving large amounts of data from disk share to disk-share crashes this version. keeping the selected data below 20 to 25 GB everything goes fine. The shares disappear and even the gui isnt available anymore only a hard reset wil bring it back alive. then it hangs a very long time on ''starting.....'' have reproduced this same error a few times now no plug-ins ,no add-ons , no simple features just plain basic Beta 11
  5. NOOOO WAY!! ??? Thnx It worked,!! Stupid Internet Explorer, never saw that coming as a possible solution
  6. Maybe a stupid question, but i only can dowload a .tar file from the dropbox from user Stokkes. put it on the flash drive, in an ''extra'' directory an tried the installpkg command ''installpkg plex-0.3-i386-unRAID.tar'' and get this error in Telnet box ''Cannot install plex-0.3-i386-unRAID.tar: file does not end in .tgz, .tbz, .tlz, or .txz'' a .tar file is by my knowledge a kind of compressed file/package RAR / ZIP file. So i tried With 7-Zip and winRaR to see with kind of uncompressed file it would output (maybe a .tgz file) and it did'nt.
  7. Those hotswap bays have 2 molex power connectors each to power the 5 drives inside
  8. @Mikechy Got mine today here in Belgium, WOW that's quick!! Thankx again. first question also: what about that 8 pin connector?
  9. I pulled this off, did i remember my steps wrong? When i remember it's possible that i moved the data from the '' to be removed" drives first to the other drives. Then these steps would be fine?
  10. Yess, we understand each other - the steps i mentioned should be right then. I pulled this off not so long ago also with 4.7 and the 5 drive PLUS Licence. Actual data on it + - 4TB , the raid array being 9TB parity 2TB disk1 2TB disk2 2TB disk3 2TB disk4 1.5TB disk5 1.5TB Cache 2TB I could sell my 2 1.5TB for a good price to change them in time for 2TB's or bigger , of course i pulled 1 drive at a time Now the raid array is 6TB Another question i have for you: What is your main goal with that SSD? Because setting up a only share was also possible with that 300GB drive If you have the place in your case and enough sata ports you can also think about to assign that WD3200AAKS as a cache drive.
  11. No, you don't have a communication problem The reply was more meant in general. Are we not expecting too much for this low price ?? I now read your Edit: YES AND YES for me also
  12. Not sure because of no experience with 3TB drives but maybe Raj can help me out here: 2.2TB is that magical limit for traditional allocation of file systems with a traditional bios-chip Above this you need a newer type of Bios Chip: EFI Chip or firmware upgrade like with those Supermicro cards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface When i look at Biostar's website i don't see them mentioning an EFI bios chip or 3TB support. So most likely 3TB Hdd's direct attached drives will be recognized as maximum 2.2TB. Raj? community? am i right?
  13. I'am also playing and enjoying UnRaid for only a few month's now, and i must say: Never have been more enthusiastic over a NAS product. Tried many worst case scenario's of failing hardware and UnRaid did not let me down. Having a history with failing Netgear,Synology and Qnap home NAS solutions. and losing data > Or not being able to have the flexibility with disks and array like UnRaid has. Maybe UnRaid is not the easiest in the beginning: Read and you will learn: The active community full of enthousiast's is also part of the succes i guess. For how Small Lime Technology is : i think they and everyone surrounding in the (non paid) community are doing a really good job. I know a lot huge brands with hundreds or thousands employees where you pay a lot more for less options and get less support and updates. There is a saying: When you pay peanuts , you get monkeys. With UnRaid i don't have this feeling. We all get really much for really a few bucks. Most of us only buy a (in my opinion) cheap UnRaid licence for a really great product : Nothing really on the market compared to it. Oke : We are a year in Beta and Development to a higher version takes maybe longer then those huge brands. But keep in mind: better a good stable version than a unfinished product. Just my opinion.
  14. Thnx for the invite Kizer ;D
  15. Looking fine. Maybe choose the Energy Efficient version of that series cpu (less heat and lower electrical bill) that CPU power is more than enough for 90% of UnRaid add-ons http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264382 about the harddrives: The Hitachi's sounds to be the community's favourite for the moment. The 2TB's have got the best price/performance. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9865.0 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=10388.0 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-Deskstar-Stainless-Internal-0F12117/dp/B004NCL3I4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1311527070&sr=8-2
  16. If you haven't ordered yet? 48-hour weekend savings, ends 7/24 That D-Link is now on Newegg for 129 Dollar + free-shipping and with Jumbo Frames support where the SMC does not for 179 Dollar For the current price of the D-Link this weekend i definitely would choose that D-Link
  17. Hello talkto_menow, If i understand you correct you want to shrink your UnRaid array (get disk3 out) without losing the data on that disk. And later add another drive (SSD) without rebuilding the old data from disk3 on the SSD. You must have a working PARITY DRIVE assigned for the steps below. If this is the case? you can follow these steps. Please give some more information about your setup and version of UnRaid before you go trough with this. ''Making the assumption your SSD is smaller than 300GB'' PART 1 1: Take a screenshot from your setup so you exactly know which drive is parity , disk 1 , disk 2 etc (brand)+(type)+(serial) you later must choose this again for drive-assignment. 2: stop array 3: shutdown 4: get disk 3 out 5: start up without disk3 5: do a initconfig (only the config of the drives will be reset , not the data) Now you assign your drives in the exact same setup as before, look at the screenshot or printout (your old setup without disk 3) 6: Drive-assignment correct? Start Array. 7: The array will be rebuild/reconstruct the smaller array with 5 drives along with the data from disk3 (rebuild from parity drive) This wil take a few hours depending on the size of your drives Moving data between shares is also a possibility but when you pull this drive out and unassign it in UnRaid and startup again. UnRaid will still keep saying '' missing disk' and you have to do a ''initconfig'' anyway. PART 2: adding the SSD drive to the array. After the previous rebuild has completed. 1: Stop the array 2: Shutdown 3: Add the SSD to a sata port 4: Startup 5: Assign the SSD 6: Start the Array 7: The array wil be expanded with the SSD , problably do a parity check. Think this would be the right steps to take for you.
  18. Raj, You're counts are high when i compare them to my drives. Same firmware Your:(sdf) 2878 Power on Hours with 25912 LCC counts Mine: (sdb) 3666 Power on Hours with 8138 LCC counts Mine: (sde) 2504 Power on hours with 4557 LCC counts Other firmware: Your: (sdg) 7162 Power on hours with 170700 LCC counts ( WOW!!! ) (Don't know to what limit these drives can go without trouble) I did adjust all of my WD20EARS drives with WD-iddle after a few weeks working with UnRaid because of the high counts with the standard setting on everyday base. Now it's oke i guess, only a few per day. My counts for (sdb) on 10/07 were 3380 Power on Hours with 8089 LCC counts That means for 286 hours only 49 counts Now the total average is going down comparing to the Power on Hours I did not change anything for that WD20EARX. That model did not got those high counts in the first few weeks after installing. Now 825 Power on Hours with only 442 LCC counts. I replaced a previous drive with 150K LCC count with my local dealer without a problem. If that (your sdg) drive was mine i replaced it, and for the others , adjust them with Wd-iddle for now. 19. Welcome Danny, You picked and linked to a few components that are being used with UnRaid But i think you might want to change that CPU a Intel socket 775 Celeron E3400 simply won't fit in a AMD based AM3 mainbord. Depending on your needs of cpu power with the add-ons you can pick here anything with a low TDP ( wattage) like the Sempron 140 series or higher. The Sempron would be fine for simple file serving and the AMD Athlon II X2 240E or 245e would be good for sabnzb and SickBeard About that Biostar mainbord with 4 sata ports if you are looking to start with 5 drives then you immediately are 1 SATA port short. and need to go over to an extra expension card. Also look at the Asus- M4A78LT-M ( not the LE version) http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200981 It's around the same price and has 6 sata ports onboard and level 1 certified. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14068.0 In the example below you can start with 5 drives and expand to 15 depending on your budget and needs. Just beware : The CX430 power supply doesn't give enough juice for a 15 drive setup. but so long you don't go over the 10 to 12 green drives it would be just fine. About the case: if you want to go in the 5 tot 15 drives area ( midi-tower style ) and starting with 1 x 5in3 hotswap bays than you should look in the UK for those Sharkoon Cases. Rebel9 Economy http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/node/1042 Rebel9 Value http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/node/1034 Rebel9 Aluminum http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/rebel9-aluminum This last one with 1 to 3 hotwap cages wil give you a really clean look http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=13997.0 Also look at xcase.co.uk for those Norco SS-500 clones for 60 pound each (great deal) but you might want to change the fan for lower db's http://www.xcase.co.uk/hotswap-stoarge-kit-p/hddkit-xx-500.htm These should be available in the UK for reasonable prices!
  20. I know it's not just as you asked but is this available down-under? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131257 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6231.0
  21. I think the question is: If you are in a remote place : anywhere else than home can you connect directly to your're Unraid server or other pc.
  22. Not bad at all for that Rosewill: a fair price For those who love a good warranty: 5 years for Corsair and 2 years for the Rosewill
  23. This is gonna be a really nice build. Really curious how the Norco's will look in that Lancool case. When you're ready building don't forget to post some pictures
  24. Single rail of 54 Amps and 80 Plus Bronze !! 69 Dollar and free-shipping : Not bad. You're planning a +- 20 drive build ? Maybe you could also consider the TX650 V2 from Corsair , after the rebate only a 10 dollar price difference with the Rosewill http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020
  25. I really love this case, but shipping to Belgium would be outrageous expensive i guess. :(
