@trurl why has this been moved to the General Support? I thought this is a Kernel Problem?

Why do you think it's a kernel problem? Are you trying to pass that device to a VM?

I'm not familiar with that device, but from the web site you linked, I wouldn't expect Unraid to support it natively. Unraid is not one of the supported platforms, according to that website. Unraid isn't a general purpose Linux installation and won't include drivers for that device. It doesn't even include wifi drivers.

You might try running Ubuntu in a VM and pass that device to it.

  2. Any idea why your syslog is flooded with these?

    e) 480GB x 6 Drives SSD Kingston A400 (Why are SSD not recommended? Freenas is quite happy with it) Of of my main issues!!!

SSDs in the parity array cannot be trimmed, because that could invalidate parity. You can have multiple SSDs in the cache pool.

    4. USB Stick.

Have had Very bad experiences with the USB stick, especially on freenas.

Incase the Stick Malfunctions, how to I get the system up and running again. Can I use a 120GB SSD? Can I use a 120GB SSD connect wia USB???

What happens to the LIC. have read its hard coded with the UUID.

a Little sceptical about this particular point.

Unraid boots from flash, but that flash is actually accessed very little. The OS is unpacked fresh from the archives on flash into RAM at each boot, and the OS runs completely in RAM. Flash also contains your license, and any configuration changes you make are stored there to be reapplied at boot. There are methods for backing up flash, so your configuration isn't lost if the flash malfunctions. The license is associated with the flash GUID, but if you have to replace flash, getting a replacement license is fairly simple.

I tried to remove Disk 2 from the array and wanted to make that a parity disk and it would not let me.

Hi I'm currently running issues with my unraid server where I'm having constant random reboot. Initially it would reboot once or twice a day. Lasting sometimes a day or even just a few hours.

I then tried disabling the Spectre/Meltdown Mitigations but it would still reboot, this time longer now, after about a week of running. Happened twice now.

I'm running both dockers and VMs, and tried to isolate my running VMs and shutdown the dockers but it would still reboot. Did a memtest but no errors was found.

Any other people having same issues?

Rebooting is almost certainly a hardware issue. Go to Tools-diagnostics and attach the complete Diagnostics zip file to your next post.

The appdata folder shows everything is in cache in user shares.

Your diagnostics show it has files on disk1. And since it is set to cache-only, those files on disk1 will not be moved.

I believe the reason I set the docker image to a much large # was because of my plex server which I have since moved to its on VM. I will set that back to 20G. Doesn't it grow dynamically?

Why would you run plex in a VM? There is no reason it shouldn't work well as a docker, and that is working well for lots of users, including me.

docker image doesn't grow beyond the space you allocated for it in Settings - Docker.

  7. Yes

The config folder on flash contains your license and everything else about your configuration, including disk assignments. The license .key file can only be used with the specific flash drive it was registered with, but it can be used with any hardware. Many of us have moved our drives to new hardware.

All four of my drives are in a non-RAID HDD enclosure connected via USB 3.1.

USB, though allowed, is not recommended for array or cache due to unreliability in some cases. Best to reconsider your design.

  9. SMART for all disks looks OK. CRC errors are usually connection problems, check. Specifically disk6, but check others too.

Syslog indicates you had filled cache, but it isn't full now. You need to configure your usage of cache, and Minimum Free for cache (in Global Share Settings) to avoid filling it.

Your cache-only appdata share has some files on the array. Your cache-no domains share would typically be set to cache-prefer, it has files on cache. You can see what disk each share is using with the Compute features on the User Shares page. Some steps will be required to get these things moved where they belong.

Why do you have your docker image set so large, have you been filling it? 20G should be more than enough unless you have something setup wrong, and making it so large will not fix that problem.

  10. Could you be more specific regarding each drive? Capacity, etc?

Only 1 drive is required in the array, the mechanical drive would be a good choice for that. All others could be Unassigned Devices. Or some combination of Unassigned and cache pool depending on specifics.

The main thing you lose by not having disks in the array is the ability to span folders, but sound like that isn't important since you want to work directly with the different disks anyway.

  11. Though not full now, the fact that you have a 50G docker image makes me suspect you have been filling your docker image and increased it trying to fix the problem. That won't fix anything, it will just take longer to fill. 20G should be more than enough if you have your applications configured correctly.

My Tower2, Has 24x 2Tb hard drives, 2x Parity and 22x data drives.

    I have an 850Watt Corsair.

This Tower has been running for about 8 years with only 1x hard drive failure.

    Hope that helps.

2TB drives made some economic sense, 8 years ago. Still no reason to have more disks than your capacity needs. Grow into 24 drives instead of starting with 24 drives.
