  1. Thanks for the advice, I am leaning towards the E5 as I like the feature set. The Ryzen road is something to keep an eye on, however one feature I have decided I really would like is IPMI and it sounds like Ryzen wont get it for a bit. As far as GPU's go, I will probably have a dedicated one for Plex Transcoding but nothing else I am doing would really benifite much from having multiple GPUs. If I went with a E5 platform do you think it is worth it spending extra on a X11 LGA 3647 or stick with the old X10 LGA 2011?
  2. I am looking at building a new unRaid server to fold both my current vSphere and unRaid servers into. The new server will be 50TB+ and running Plex, Minecraft, Misc Game servers, Mumble, and at least one Win7 instance used as a Download and Scrapping server. Plex will be doing live tv recording via an HDHomeRun. The server will also have 10Gig Lan since Plex is used for streaming 4k Tv shows and uncompressed UHD Blu-ray rips. Basically, I cannot decide on wether to go with Xeon level or stick with consumer level, and if I go consumer level do I need to go with a i9 or Threadripper? I want some breathing room for the future however I do not want to go overboard. Can anyone suggest a build path for my requirements?
  3. Thank you, using guest with no password got me into the server. I followed your link then went to: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1033675-windows-7-keeps-asking-enter-network-password-to-connect-to-netwo/
  4. I seem to be having a similar issue, immediately after updating I could no longer acess any Samba shares from Windows 10. Everything I try to access the server via samba a popup asks for credentials, then always says they were invalid. Some things I have tried with no luck: - I have deleted the credentials from windows credentials manager. - I made a new user on Unraid. - I rebooted everything (firewall, switches, servers, computers). - I made sure unraid was the local master. - I Used the permissions script to reset permissions. Nothing I do can get the credentials to work. There are no indications of errors in the system logs. I have no idea what to do now.
  5. I thought of that but when I opened up the system it seemed flush. Anyways I have ordered an LSI 9211-8i which should resolve these issues I hope.
  6. Thanks for your help you have been a lifesaver BTW do you think this is a good replacement card: http://www.ncix.com/detail/supermicro-aoc-sas2lp-mv8-8-channel-6gb-s-bf-62032.htm
  7. I might have to look into replacing that controller then, it is getting old after all. It should be safe then to start a Read-Check of all data disks?
  8. I stooped the box, checked all the cables but found nothing loose. I then powered it back up and it powered up with no errors, but the parity is still disabled. I managed to run a smart test which is here: http://pastebin.com/5r9XvGtY. I'm no expert but the smart log seems to say there is nothing wrong with the drive, this leaves me very concerned about what caused the error?
  9. Will do, I am also going to open it up and make sure all the cables are snug.
  10. This morning I was looking at my server when I noticed the parity drive became disabled suddenly. When I checked the logs it says: This is followed by a ton of: I cannot get a smart report from the parity drive as it produces the following error: Does anyone have an idea what happened, is my parity drive dead? My syslog is here: http://pastebin.com/BxTDrqfT
  11. I am looking for a large 20+ drive enclosure with front access but cannot seem to find anything that is available in Canada. My top choices are: 1. Lian Li PC-343B 2. IPC 4U-4424 http://inter-tech.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=867%3Aipc-4u-4424&catid=136%3A4u-storage-gehaeuse&Itemid=755〈=en Unfortunately the Lian Li is not available any more and the IPC does not seem to be available in Canada. Does anyone have a suggestion for an enclosure like those 2 that is easy to get? Even better does anyone in the Ontario/Up State NY area have a Lian Li PC-343B for sale
  12. Ater playing around with things I can confirm sevral things. 1. There does not appear to be any way to convert the partition type from the GUI. You can mess around with the format of the partition but not the partition type itself. 2. unRAID seems to take whatever partition table format was originally there before hand. The partition type does not seem to impact parity at all. This means there is no need to remove a disk before changing the partition table, just change it then tell unRAID to format the drive. Knowing this and I created an upgrade plan for my partitions which is bassed on my unfamiliarity with Linux CLI Partition tools and my desier to minimize risk to my data. The upgrade steps are as follows: 1. Copy all data off of a disk to a backup device mounted by the Unassigned Disks addon. 2. Make sure the disk is empty by deleting the data. 3. Reboot into GParted and replace the Partition table. 4. Reboot into unRAID and verify that you have set the correct fomat for the drive. 5. Tell unRAID to format the drive. 6. Transfer the data back to the drive. This results in a GPT: 4K aligned disk with an XFS (or whatever you want) partition.
  13. I am probably confused about running preclear, I thought that would allow us to force the partition type to GPT, 4K Alligned. The issue that I am trying to solve is that I did exactly what you said when I added a new drive, and well the partition format is XFS the partition table is in the wrong older MBR, unaligned format: For Clarification what I am looking for is GPT, 4K Aligned partition format like this (but with XFS format):
  14. Thanks for the response! So it sounds like if I want to align these drives, I need to re-preclear them and rebuild them after.... Not worth it. Mostly was curious to see if I would see a speed difference. Thanks! DB I am in the middle of converting all of my disks to XFS now and I am also concerned with the partition type. Using preclear on a known good drive seems like a very slow process as I have 13 drives. I have an idea but I'm not sure if it would work: 1. Clear data off of the drive 2. remove the drive from the array 3. Replace the partition table with gparted 4. Re-Add the drive to the array and have Unraid format it. 5. Transfer the data back to the drive. Would this work? This would be time consuming but not as time consuming as running preclear on 13 drives that already had preclear run on them once.
  15. Unfortunately I was too busy today to do any trouble shooting today so I do not have any update, however I have updated unRAID to 6.1.6 hopping that might somehow fix the issue. A copy of the syslog from this mornings event is here: http://pastebin.com/PpRfeLuk
  16. It appears I spoke too soon. After getting the system in what I thought was a functional state I started doing some housekeeping with the files and I noticed unstable behaviour. The web GUI would be slow to load, files copied to the server would time out, attempts to watch movies stored on the server resulted in time outs as well. I have still not been able to find anything resembling an error though, so I decided to try checking parity again. I stopped the PLEX docker, started a Parity check and went to bed. Now I just woke up and the system is in the same state as before. The system will not respond to HTTP, Telnet, or SMB traffic. Accessing the system directly shows nothing wrong, CPU Memory and such is fine. I have not yet checked the logs again this morning but based on last time I do not think there will be anything different that what is in the logs I have already posted. Any ideas what is going on? I'm willing to believe it is a hardware issue but if it is how can I narrow it down? EDIT: Some more information: - I have verified valid ARP and route information in my router and my main system. - I have verified that the PLEX docker is not running with "docker ps" - I verified CPU and memory via TOP and free /mem - I have stopped and restarted the network with "/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 stop/start" after that I was still able to ping the local interface but I could get no response from http or telnet. Only thing I can think of doing is to run a TCP dump to verify the traffic is hitting the interface but I have already verified traffic via the interface RX/TX counts. I hope someone else has an idea about what could be going on because I am stumped.
  17. Ok I will try and remove those plugins and report how it goes. My issue with this though is if SNAP is somehow crashing or blocking network related processes, why is there nothing in the logs indicating this? EDIT: I have replaced SNAP with "Unassigned Devices" and everything works fine now. I would still love to know what SNAP did to crash the network without leaving any trace in the logs, but at least the system is working now. Thanks itimpi (Y)
  18. Recently I had a drive failure so I took the opportunity to upgrade to a bigger drive and add in a new drive. After a few issues that turned out to be a dead CMOS battery I got everything up and running fine. At this point the system was running for over a day without errors and had already rebuilt the replacement drive and added in the new drive, so I did a parity check and everything came back fine as well. I proceeded to run a program that manages my video files artwork/info files and almost immediately the system stopped responding to the network. Everything including the Web GUI, Telnet, Ping, and Samba stopped responding. I accessed the system directly and I am unable to find anything wrong. CPU, Ram, Temps are all normal. There were no errors with the ifconfig, and I could ping the loopback. No obvious errors in the logs except some minor SAS errors during boot, but nothing at the time of the incident. I rebooted the system and everything looked fine again so I thought it might have been a fluke, I re-ran the software and the system instantly stopped responding to network again. I am at a loss as there are no clear errors anywhere. My system is running 6.1.4 and has 11 reiserfs drives and 1 xfs drive. I have 1 drive being managed by SNAP for PLEX. I have 1 PLEX (needo/plex:latest) docker but it is not running. I am using the following up to date plugins: "SNAP non-array drive mount and share" "NTFS-3G Package" "Dynamix System Temperature" "Dynamix System Statistics" "Dynamix System Information" "Dynamix Active Streams" "Nerd Tools" and of course: "Dynamix webGui" "unRAID Server OS" The software I am using is "Ember Media Manager" http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=191781 however I do not believe it is the cause of the issue, I believe it must be ether a hardware issue or a Samba issue. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss, please find attached my syslog. syslog.txt
  19. Your solution works great for local servers but I am looking for a solution for servers in a data centre. I would even be willing to pay more for a “cloud” enabled license but with the way it works now I do not believe this would even be possible?
  20. The basic issue is that in a visualized setup I do not have a USB key to tie the Licence to, so I always used the free version which is more or less being eliminated. So now how do I go about setting up a virtualized server in say a VMware or Citrix environment with the new Licence scheme?
  21. @lionelhutz Thanks that answers my main question. What I meant by my question about PLEX using the video was weather or not PLEX would use the GPU for transcoding to reduce stress on the CPU, I am new to PLEX so I was not sure. I understand that is not really a question for this board though so I will go to PLEX for that discussion.
  22. Thanks, I know an Intel might be "better" but the cost means I get better performance for my money by going with Intel, even after factoring in the cost of the electricity. The video does concern me, what CPU should I go with then that would have the integrated video and can integrated video be used for something like PLEX running in Docker?
  23. With the release of PS4/Xbox Plex clients I decided to add Plex to my media server, the problem is the CPU is spiking to 100% and crashing unRIAD. So I am looking for a replacement board and CPU. My current setup is this: Mobo: ASUSTeK Computer INC. - M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3 CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 600e @ 2.2 GHz RAM: 4x 2GB 1600 DDR3 Nic: Intel PRO/1000 CT All HD's are connected through a Supermicro SAS card. I am looking at getting these for replacements: Mobo: Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H mATX FM2+ A88X CPU AMD Athlon X4 860K Black Edition 4000MHZ 4MB 95W FM2+ Processor Will these be fully compatible with unRAID or should I be looking elsewhere? My main concern is stability as the server is used by several HTPC's and hosts over 20TB of content. I am also wanting to reduce the power consumption as much as possible without sacrificing performance too much.
  24. Thanks, Tom sent me a new key which is installed and everything is working great :-)
  25. Is it possible to transfer a purchased pro key to a new USB stick? I am still running on the original stick I purchased from Lime Tech ages ago (as in many years) and I wish to replace it to both increases performance and to be proactive in preventing a breakdown. I have already purchased a Adata UV131 USB 3.0 16GB stick (it seemed very solidly built) I am wanting to use, but I need an answer on how to go about transferring both the key and the OS itself to it. P.S. Before anyone asks I do not have the new GUID yet, I am unsure how to get it without installing unraid on it...
