So it’s the expected behaviour that boot fail with xmp enabled ?
-
Hey,
i got a little struggle. My RAM supports 6000mhz and without xmp the clock is set to 4800mhz.
so I thought ok enable xmp. I have two options on the ASUs z790 xmp1 and xmp2.
With the one I get a KERNEL PANIC - NOT SYNCING VFS: UNABLE TO MOUNT ROOT FS
And with the other xmp option I get BZIMAGE CHECKSUM ERROR.
I don’t really want to overlock just want to run ram and cpu supported clock speed.
when I set ram to 6000mhz without xmp the system boots and with default 4800mhz I have also no problems.
would be really thankful for any advice.
thank you
greetings 🖖

disabled Preserve user defined networks and IPv4 custom network on interface br0 (optional) in Docker Settings and its seems the problem is gone now.

Hello,
i am have strange network issues a few days now.
from inside Docker:

ssh to Unraid works. shares are working. WebGuis of Docker apps are accessible.
I really don't get it. Started just out of nothing and its not permanent after a few minutes its working again. Completely random.
If you need anything just let me know.

It’s kind of funny
if you read in the Plex Forum they say since Build 1.28.1 HA is broken because of an Update of Intel IHD driverand for us 1.28.1 is better then 1.28.0 don’t get it.

Woo! Getting closer!
New Plex version dropped this morning, version 1.28.1.6018 (beta update channel.) With this Plex version + Unraid 6.11.0-rc2, I'm now able to enable both "Use hardware acceleration when available" and "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding" without crashes or any errors in the Unraid or docker logs. CPU usage is minimal if not transcoding audio.
With everything set as above...If I enable HDR tone mapping, the CPU usage is pegged as if it's software transcoding and it can't keep up with transcoding a single 4K HDR10 stream (with 4 E cores only) for more than a few seconds at a time. This combo used to not work at all for me...had to disable HDR tone mapping for playback to even begin.
yes your are right. Working for me too.

with Plex Docker 1.28.0.5999 from yesterday HA enabled and HA encoding enabled I
don't get the Problems till now.If I enable HDR Tone Mapping its over.
On the second play it dies again

Just to share my experience.
Using an i3-12100 on a Z690 motherboard on unRAID 6.11.0-rc2
I now have HW transcoding working perfectly, the only thing that doesn't work is tone mapping.
With this -
echo "blacklist i915" > /boot/config/modprobe.d/i915.conf
Intel-GPU-TOP
GPU Statistics
and /dev/dri in the official Plex docker container.
No other changes from default configuration.
I've played a 4K home movie in Plex, transcoded down to 720p without issues.
I've also converted it to a lower quality and downloaded it to a android phone with no problem either.
Both definitely using the GPU as can see low CPU usage and high GPU usage throughout.
I've had no crashes or errors in either my system or container logs.
If I enable tonemapping, I don't get any errors or crashes, but instead of using the GPU it uses the CPU.
Hope this is useful to others!
The I3 is using uhd 730 from last gen so could be a difference.
On 7/30/2022 at 5:48 PM, snazz said:It sounds odd that you don't see any CPU activity while transcoding with only the HA setting enabled. I see CPU activity on my system in the same circumstances.
If not 100% sure this is accurate, but I assume transcoding video includes decoding of the original stream and encoding it in a different combination of format / bitrate / resolution, so i would expect to see CPU activity if the software encoding is occurring.
Maybe you're not actually transcoding in your testing? Is it direct streaming perhaps where only the container is different?
You are right it’s 5 % cpu usage with a 4K movie. As I tested with 1080p I just didn’t see the minimal usage.

So encoding will happen with cpu ? I do not see any cpu usage at all. Don’t get it
in which scenario I am encoding ?

3 hours ago, snazz said:
@feraay Do you have both "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding" enabled and "Use hardware acceleration when available" enabled in Plex, or just the latter?
Plex crashes due to GPU hang within about 5 minutes when transcoding with HA video encoding enabled along with "Use HA", but doesn't with only HA acceleration enabled.
I have only use ha when available enabled not ha encoding.
tester with encoding and it won’t even play guc hang in syslog.
tried hdr tone mapping played a few minutes then crashes.
so the only stable option is enable ha when available.

It’s still running …
no intel gpu top installed
no blacklist
no modprob in syslinux conf
i am transcoding to ram but I think this is not important for gpu crash. Except that I did not do anything special.
@flyize do you have Stil the gcu reset errors in system log like with 6.10 or how is the behaviour?

Still no intel_gpu_top installed?
Nope. At the moment out of the box not plug-in no extra config.
9 minutes ago, Wintersdark said:I've gone done this exact road so many times. "Oh look, it's working!". ... 6 hours later, once I'm at work, texts from the wife that the server is down. *Sighs*
I never had to wait 6 hours with 6.10 and old kernel. Server instantly crashed when starting transcode. And we have officiall 5.18 Kernel for two days now so how many times you Heard “look it’s working” before doesn’t really matter I guess. If I get @flyize right only his Plex crashes and you are talking about the server crashes sounds like a different problem in my opinion.
i will report tomorrow if it’s still working.
-
Ok I removed modprob and guc
Downloaded one to phone no crash and watching one right now with hw transcoding.
till now it still works will report back tomorrow.
-
Oh Ok I know what u mean. I have no intel gpu top installed. I can check my syslinux conf and post here give me 30 minutes.
I will download again a movie to phone and check logs.
will report back
😅 ok I have still settings from 6.10 testing in my conf
append initrd=/bzroot i915.force_probe=4680 i915.enable_guc=2
completely forgot about it. @ich777 told me to set it i guess. And I have not changed it till then.

No off like I already said 😊
12 minutes ago, flyize said:Are you watching the Docker logs on Unraid while it transcodes and downloads to your phone?
You mean the Plex docker logs ? Nothing special here also no errors in system log.
watched the Plex dashboard while transcoding for mobile download cpu usage at 2 percentage so it’s definitely hw transcoding.
I did not test hdr tone mapping till now but normal transcode works.
why so incredulous?

I tried it and it worked on first try no problem here now with 6.11 RC2

For me it’s working
12900k
plex official container and 6.11 rc 1
hw transcoding on but hdr tone mapping off
did not test hdr tone mapping
1 day now no crash tested a few movies no problems here- 1

But UHD730 should already supported even with 5.15 Kernel it’s last gen or I am wrong?
-
Ah ok it’s not the first time I read that 12400 works may the Igpu is already supported
UHD-Grafik 730 Is also on the 11400 so the igpu support is may better

The films that cause crashes, do they co sister my do it? Are they possibly HDR content?
Thought the same may hdr Tonemapping?
do you have enabled hdr tonemapping?
does the whole system crash or just the Plex container?
thx

I upgraded to 5.18 (Unraid 6.10.0) and tried hardware encoding in Plex. Played a film for about 20 mins and it didn't crash. (In 6.9.2 when I tried it, it would crash the server after about a minute.)
I'll see how stable it is over the next few days.Something new ?
we are all curious 😅 it’s still up?

Problems with unicode characters in filenames when using zfs
in General Support
Posted · Edited by feraay
I guess in my case it's some cached stuff from Plex Phototrancoder... not a file I created.
/mnt/user/appdata/Plex-Media-Server/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/PhotoTranscoder
Is it a corrupted zfs Filesystem? Or really just a File not utf8 charset ? Everything works as expected no problems except that folder.
Maybe I already transferred the file from my old non-ZFS Cache.... I really don't know.
I tried a lot of Tips like sed and iconv or how it's called. My last Clue is to move everything "working" away from the cache pool, wipe and move everything back. But I hoped there will be a "smaller" solution.
