Joe,
I can't remember... in your script between cycles.. Do you run another SMART test?
I'm running two cycles on my new 3TB drive and I'd be interested to see if there were SMART differences after the first cycle.
The first cycle took 45hours!!
I'd hate to wait another 45 hours only to find there were errors on the first run!

I suppose I can do manual diff if it's in the /tmp area...

I bought this right angle forward breakout from monoprice and found that it didn't fit my SASLP card.. So it's of no use to me. I suppose I could return it... but
maybe someone here wants it for a couple bucks off..
-
Ok... So I bought one from Superbiiz and one from Monprice!
Superbiiz is USPS first class and Monoprice is USPS priority mail..
both coming from CA! Let the race begin!
-
I couldn't see the one at Newegg earlier... I thought I did the correct search.. Oh well.. You're right I should just spend the extra $$ and either get the SuperBiiz or the Newegg one. Coincidentally.. I just got an auto notify from mono-price.. I guess they found some since they now have stock of the 1m version.. but they only have 11..
So I either spend $26 from newegg and get it Monday.. or $20 from newegg and get it who knows when..
Or $14 from Superbiiz and get it Probably wednesday or thursday.. or $12 from monoprice and get it who knows when... or $16 from monoprice and get it Tuesday or wednesday!
I want it now dammit!! My new case is in and my 3TB drive is coming tomorrow... I'm just out of Sata ports until I can get the SASLP fired up!

I'm looking to get a mini-sas to sata forward breakout cable!
I'm 0 - 2 so far! I want to get them from Monoprice But they are out until
8/31.
I was hoping to get my hands on one before hand! Anyone willing to send me one short term? I can either mail it back
buy you a new one from monoprice when they come back in.
I could also trade this right angle forward breakout for this cable instead. It's right angle and it doesn't fit on my SASLP card! :'(
I also have a reverse breakout cable as well that I'll probably never use.
Thanks,
Jim

Western Digital Caviar Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s HDD -Bare Drive
$120 ($119.99) W/ promo code EMCKBJB28
I think the best I've seen for the 3TB drive was about $110 (since I've started looking). So this isn't too far off...

Yeah.. I liked the utgard too... I just pulled the trigger on one! (and a Norco 5 in 3 cage from 3btech!)
Now I just need the 3TB drives to go on sale again and I can upgrade!

Newegg Shell shocker which starts at 1:00PM - 2:59PM PT forRosewill CRUISER Black Gaming ATX .
This has what appears to be enough external slots for 3x 5 in 3 cages.. If it has free ship, I probably will pull the trigger.
I was thinking about the utgard case but it has $15 shipping.. but a $10 rebate for a total cost of $55 AR.. hmm... decisions...
-
Can the 900 take 3x 5 in 3 cages? The description say only 3 external 5.25 bays.. but the picture looks like
the internal cages can be removed...
-
On the bright side... I now have a reverse breakout cable if I ever buy the 4020 Norco box!
The 4020 uses regular SATA backplanes, so a reverse breakout cable would be useless. In a 4220 or 4224 it would be right at home.
D'oh! I knew that.. It just slipped my mind! The question is will I ever get a 4220 or 4224!

I believe those are long gone. There is no box to buy them...
-
I bought one of these cables. Nice cable but it is a reverse breakout cable. It is designed to connect a drive array or hot swap bay that has a mini SAS 36Pin connector to a controller that has individual sata connectors for individual drives like a motherboard does.
Ok.. Well now I know!.. You saved me the trouble of trying to ohm out the cable to figure that out!
Thanks!
On the bright side... I now have a reverse breakout cable if I ever buy the 4020 Norco box!
EDIT: I had already bought a longer than needed (forward) breakout cable earlier today when this cable didn't work. So Hopefully there won't be any gotchas with the longer right angle min-SAS connector.
-
oops.. That's right! I forgot I went past the link to get the breakout cable!
-
My guess is that's the issue. someone else on the forums here couldn't get an answer from them. I also just e-mailed them.We need to know if the cable is a forward breakout or a reverse breakout, and unfortunately Cable Matters doesn't specify. I suggest you email them and ask them about it.
I can't find a pinout for the forward cable! If I have that I could ohm out the cable to see if it's forward or reverse.
-
Did you get this cable to work? I bought this and mine doesn't. I'm wondering if it's a reverse breakout cable!
Someone else on on these boards had issues too.. I have nothing to compare it against so I don't know. It's a new SASLP card and a new cable.
-
I bought this cable from cable matters.
I also just got the SASLP MV8 recntly. I just tried the combo in a test system and the bios doesn't see any drive connected. UnRaid reports the same.
Do I have the correct cable? Or do I have to do anything with the SASLP card? the SASLP *seems* to be working fine since the bios is showing up and I can enter the utility.. It just doesn't see any drives.
Someone else PM'ed me with the same situation.
Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Jim

Hoarding has started! (or being prepared.. )
I had to pay tax though!

Will an SSD really help a cache drive? Aren't we still limited by the Gige network connection??
Maybe multiple simultaneous writes??
Jim

Oohh.. I might get one for use as a spare??
Is that how hoarding begins??

I'm currently running V4.5.4
It's been a while since I've been on the forums and I see there is a 5 beta 10!
Is there any reason why I couldn't/shouldn't upgrade to the latest beta?
And can I go from 4.5.4 directly to 5 (beta 10)?
I realize that I need at least beta 7 for 3TB support (which I don't have any right now but plan on in the very near future)
Thanks,
Jim

No issues with dust with the Helios 910? All the air intakes easily cleaned?
The Utgard has a removable filter by the PS which the 910 doesn't seem to...
It looks like I can get the 910 for $59 AR FS. from amazon which makes it slightly cheaper if I really want to wait for the rebate!
-
I really should just go with the Tower and a couple of 5 in 3 cages to start.
I like the looks of the utgard case. but the helios looks good too!
And at ~$50 ($65 w/shipping) not a bad deal if it's quiet enough. Now I can get the Norco 5 in 3's for about $88 but I need two of them (to start)..
So $65 + 2x $88 = $241.
But for $60 more I can get the 4020 case! grrr.. I hate these decisions!

ok.. I see there is a bunch of info in the /tmp directory.. so you do it..
Can you add the diff to the e-mail report between cycles?
Also can you add the pending report also the e-mail reports?
I can probably add them.. but would probably be faster for you to add it to the next release..
Thanks,
Jim
