  3. Thanks, I remember the discussion on how it would be bad to automatically swap in a drive (in case of a minor error) and how many things could go wrong if it was done automatically... Just to beat a dead horse a bit more (a lot of past discussions), does anyone else have the latest on P+Q redundancy and it's urgency? With my plans of running a massive (3TBx15-20 drives), having a second redundancy would be a big breath of comfort. With how long a new 3TB/4TB drive takes to get online (without using the assignable hot spare possibility), the extra breathing room would really be nice (Especially in a small scale production environment).
  4. Thank you for the response... Any ideas on when P+Q will be implemented (roadmap is pretty vague)? Is there any hot spare option (minimize necessity of P+Q)?
  5. On the verge of embarking on my first real unraid setup. I've been watching it for quite a while now waiting for 5 to become final. Two questions... Are >2TB drives fully supported now in both cache and data drives? Has P+Q Redundancy ever been implemented (two drive failure tolerance)? What is the latest hard drive limit (was supposed to be finalized as 24)?

  7. Amazon has it as 119 by default...freeship http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Backup-Desktop-External-STCA3000101/dp/B00829THQE
  8. Amazon still has the 3TB for 119...Newegg Jacked their price then sold out http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST3000DM001/dp/B005T3GRLY?SubscriptionId=AKIAJ7T5BOVUVRD2EFYQ&tag=camels-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B005T3GRLY I'm not sure if anyone here keeps an eye on the two best price tracking sites... http://camelcamelcamel.com/Seagate-Barracuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST3000DM001/product/B005T3GRLY AND www.diskcompare.com/filter/?b=Fujitsu&b=Hitachi&b=Maxtor&b=Samsung&b=Seagate&b=Western+Digital&i=SATA&mis=&t=disk&s=2000&p= diskcompare has been a bit flaky lately however
  9. Both Amazon and Newegg both are running 119$ 3TB drives with free shipping.
  10. Great input! thanks guys, I guess the parity checking function would be the biggest reliance. Does the function do a full read from all disks? Does it notify you of all errors? Is there a way to automate the parity checking and ship the log files out to an email address through the web interface? 2TB of data loss is still substantial. The experts say that the majority of issues are going to be hardware/hard drive related. There are user controlled issues that can be the issue, but they are not as likely (around 25%). Dual parity is insurance for the backup system that would really make that dreaded few days of hard drive replacement a lot less stressful. I wouldn't care about sacrificing the cycles for the overhead if i knew that there was that extra layer if something does happen. What time frame am I looking at to recover from a 2TB drive failure? What time frame is a full parity check take? Any other recommendations for a new 15+ unRaid (besides hardware clearance)?
  11. Putting together a primary 15TB+ stock unraid system and I'm trying to figure out if I should wait until the beta movement is over. The biggest feature that I want to be up and running is the dual parity drives (P+Q Redundancy) (http://download.lime-technology.com/develop/infusions/aw_todo/task.php?id=23). Is there any update on the dual parity drives option? Any idea when unraid will come out of it's Beta movement? Should I trust the latest beta release in my situation?
