i moved to this docker because the linuxserver ones isnt beeing updated anymore.

i disabled the VPN option because i dont need that.

 

A Big problem that i have with this docker is i get often

When i than press F5 to refresh the page it just keeps loading.  I have to restart the Docker but often than also it doesnt get to the gui. it doesnt want to run at all.

So what is different on this client then the old linuxserver rutorrent ?

 

When i run the old docker of linuxserver.

i start that one i can add 100 torrents and it goes instantly no problems no lag nothing.

 

for both dockers all ports are open on the router etc.

Even when it does though, there's a good many reasons not to use it; as stripes aren't recalculated to the new stripe width, there's some capacity loss overhead among other things. Even if it meant something like "if you want a zfs pool, you have to create it from the command line, then select 'import pool' to do so".

• Phase 1 - Basic 'allow creation of zfs pool' in the UI (single files created with it and mounted as a cache pool to house user data, additional filesets are only able to be created via CLI - they just show up as folders inside, zvols the same and would still require manual formatting from cli as well). This is enough complexity for one release IMO
• Phase 2 - Creation of additional filesets via the UI - The UI design for this is pretty big, so having it on it's own release phase would make sense to me. It means we have to have a way to represent the various filesets all in one place (maybe represent it as a dir tree?), then be able to select that fileset and see it's info properly (zfs get pool/fileset)
• Phase 3 - UI button for on demand snapshot creation and ability to list/restore/delete snapshots for a given fileset - This is probably the biggest one yet as far as complexity... For that reason, I'd say forego allowing one to browse the snapshot contents in the UI until a later time.
• (and so on)

Anyway, how it's broken down doesn't really matter imo, just that doing so makes the overall task far less monumental an undertaking. For a small team, even one as dedicated as Limetech, trying to do it all in one whack would be... rough lol. If doing this as part of a major release (e.g. 7.0), maybe including 2 of the phases would make sense I guess? 

 

I'm super excited for this; I've daydreamed and brainstormed how it might someday be done (could you tell? 😅), to the point I started drawing it out on a notepad a few times lol. Happy days!!

Yes i agree, doing it all in 1 go is a hard task as ZFS isnt that easy and pretty complex.

 

Like next release introduce the ZFS pool. User can make a new "array" pool etc the normal zfs way with no ability to add a single+ hdd's.

And work on it with new releases to increase support for ZFS to be more stable and better about it so that finally that you can make a ZFS array where you can do like you can do now with the unraid array but with the ZFS features.

 

That would be almost the best of both worlds unraid and zfs.

Well ZFS or not ECC RAM is always a nice to have in the Unraid server. It helps extra against data corruption etc.

For a normal PC it isnt really needed. But for a Nas system or a server with important stuff its a very nice thing to have.

 

ECC is an additional feature which adds a new and directly applicable protection, something that does not exist in any capacity without ECC. ECC is always used on hardware RAID cards and by the same measure should be used when implementing software RAID or any other software storage technology which uses RAM as a cache or integrity calculation buffer.

TBH, file system conversions literally scare me to death.  You are putting yourself in a position where if anything goes awry during the operation, you lose it all.  I think the better approach for folks will be to empty their devices one by one by shifting data to other disks, then reformatting the emptied disks and moving the data back.  Do that one by one for each disk in the array.  Heck, might even be able to script that operation ;-).

would need atleast 1 extra empty disk in the system then to make a begin and copy the data. But we'll see when its that far. I think it will take some time before it will get a final version that can do this in unraid.

Also if the docker is on Custom Br:0 so i can give it a own IP. i cant "redirect" ports like when its on bridge.

i got a own mail server in a VPS that runs fine. mostly my gmails are for the older things i still use and for some spam things.

 

there is docker-mailserver. but that is a complete mail server. Im just looking for somekind of client that can pull all mail and store it. So if the email on the other email is removed or whatever i still have a copy local on my unraid.

 

Before my unraid i had qnap and it had a qmailclient that could do that. But that is for qnap only and its paid now which wasnt when i was using it.

there is fetchmail or getmail those are in a docker but havnt been updated for years.

Swap stopped renewing my  Letsencrypt cert since this week. i didnt change anything in the docker or any config file of this docker.

 

i do it via DNS which always worked the credentials are in the ini file at that location.

So was checking this. But it has stuff like VPN which i dont need. I can disable it i saw that is ok. BUT can i also move ALL my settings over from the old one to this one ?  Just copy some files start and it works again ?

i know i can reboot the server. But this problem started at 6.9.1 never had that problem with 6.8.1

 

and i do have custom ip's for docker yes.

 

Question is if i reboot it does it stay fixed. i dont want to reboot it every X days just because of this "bug".

I have upgrade to unraid 6.9.1 from 6.8.3 some time ago.

 

today i noticed ( im not that often in the Gui) that i cant enter the unraid gui anymore.  By IP nore unraid name.

 

everything that runs on it still works. Dockers and i can still access the shares and copy things to it from it.

i can also SSH into it.

 

I did clean my cache but i cant still enter the GUI. I also tried it on my phone  same problem.  This is the first time that i have Unraid that this happens to me and its since i upgrade to 6.9.1

it works fine normally but i cant put tho my KB to the windows VM on unraid. Video and Mouse are working correctly. SO not sure if its the switch i use or the keyboard i use.

Well what i did was did a factory reset on my mainboard. mine also has a BMC vga output port i put that as the main videocard of the computer. Enabled the iommu stuff again.

 

did a reinstall of the VM

 

and its working again. and i dont see any lag that i can notice. still have to do more tests and install steam etc on it to test. but it looks nicely.

 

i didnt change anything in the XML for this.

Ah yes. i never had to do that before when i installed a windows VM. This is the first time i had to do that.

 

So i used the virtio iso and installed the network driver. But im thinking about passing tho 1 of the nics to that VM so it has a dedicated nic. Not sure if that will improve the performance of the VM it self.

with vnc it works normaly. With the gpu passthrough it does work but it seems a little bit laggy. even when i just click on file explorer.

My log also gets there errors at end but my boot time to login screen is ~25 seconds.

So errors after that is propably what you should research.

i can do the same for ubuntu VM without any of these things. It just works.

 

Edit:

It works it just Takes a very long time to get into windows. and it does not feel smooth. I gave it 12 core and 16 gb so should be smooth.

I have a new unraid server its a AMD threadripper 2950x with a 980 GPU

 

i had to install the windows VM via VNC  and that all works fine.

but once i add the videocard in the template and start it. I see it starting and saying booting from hdd. and black screen and when i check the log i see

anyone an idea how to fix this ?
