  1. RIGHT O, that make sense, guess i should have checked that. I have set it to 'ONLY' and manually move the files back to the cache drive. now wee will see. thanks for your time!
  2. Hi guys, I upgraded to 6beta 15 not so long ago and really well done! i had a bit of search around int eh v6 forum and could not find anything much relating to this. one entry with no responses. so some history..... I first installed some plugins, Unassigned Devices, Dynamix System Temperature, Dynamix System Statistics, Dynamix Cache Directories and preparing for dockers, Community Repositories. then left the system for a few days and everything seemed to be working fine. then i started installing the dockers i wanted. I installed Mumble, zoneminder, crashplan, and crashplan desktop one after each other (after checking each one) and everything worked. and kept working for nearly a week, until i shutdown the system to add a small drive. brought the system backup and i could access all the directories etc with no issues, until i realised that crashplan is stopped. It actually took me a couple of minutes to realiase that i had no dockers installed again. i installed them on the cache drive and the directory's for each are there under the docker folder i created (in there own folders) but nothing on the GUI front, or anything else (ie the zone minder web interface is gone, so its not a GUI problem.) so another reboot just to see if something went SNAFU with the previous boot, but nope still gone. SO i then installed Zoneminder again, made sure it was working and rebooted. gone again. at this point is the SYSLOG attached to the post. the server is working and serving files with no issues, so no huge hurry or data loss etc. where do i start with this? if you want anything else in the way of logs please let me know.

  4. Hi there, i am really interested in this docker, but i have one slight problem. the private tracker i use only supports 0.9.2 (yes i know they are behind the times) I would really like to get my torrent habit off the PC its on start to take advantage of the v6 unraid with dockers. DO you have and am i able to use a version with 0.9.2? this combined with the file-bot plug in = AWESOME!
  5. thank you. late last night the rebuild finished and the red ball is gone!
  6. oh dear, dont worry the rebuild is still progressing But is seem the BIOS is very old. i have 7 iterations after the one that is installed! installed is F4 they are at (stable) F11, and a beta for F12. At least i dont have to flash all those!
  7. ok, so i think i know what happened. i followed this procedure, while at work via a Remote PC, and i am thinking that i didn't start and stop the array with the drive removed. As i have just done the steps again, and the drive showed a blue dot, now a orange dot and its telling me that it is rebuilding data. its going to take ages! so once i am done with that drive i will shutdown the array and fix those other issues you pointed out with the bois. i am looking now to see if i can get an newer bios. thanks again for your time!
  8. hi, well it seems there is something i didn't understand in those instructions, because that is what i followed, or at least i thought i did. i checked all the drives and i do have issues with one of the drives, my cache drive. that drive is quite old, so no surprise there. -=-=-=-=-=- 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 200 200 140 Pre-fail Always - 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 5 -=-=-=-=-=- (SMART report attached.) so that one is on its way out. the drive in question, drive 1 or sdc, is still showing as good with zero for everything that is in that link above. so i will go over that 'howto' linked above and see what i did wrong last time. What i suspect i did last time was just rebuild parity, not rebuild data. thanks for your time and i will report back once i get someplace.
  9. hi dgaschk, thanks for taking the time to find that link, but that is the info i found before (up near the top of the post, although i didn't link to it.) but that is the info i followed to the best of my ability. Marking the config as good and restarting the array or clearing the config as it describes in the artical does noting. Nor does clearing the config altogether and starting again with a full parity rebuild as i said further up. If i have missed an important step please point it out, as i have said in am not that good with linux.

  11. ok, entered the right command and its running now.
  12. hi there, OK, yes i did start new config and do remember seeing that note. But this array is mainly to hold my media collection (music and videos) so it doesnt change much. anything that is lost will not be a big concern, i have not added anything to the array recently. So i ran that command see below -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- tower login: ######## Linux 3.9.11p-unRAID. root@tower:~# reiserfsck --check /dev/sdc reiserfsck 3.6.24 Will read-only check consistency of the filesystem on /dev/sdc Will put log info to 'stdout' Do you want to run this program?[N/Yes] (note need to type Yes if you do):Yes reiserfs_open: the reiserfs superblock cannot be found on /dev/sdc. If the partition table has not been changed, and the partition is valid and it really contains a reiserfs partition, then the superblock is corrupted and you need to run this utility with --rebuild-sb. root@tower:~# -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- so run the command offered? chris.
  13. hmmm, OK, its seems i have missed something trying to self help. so from what you are saying i have probably not done anything that will clear the red ball. Now that we have established that i have done nothing, that will help this situation, can you please point me at what i need to do? You say 'rebuild' the drive, but this has always confused me. I know that UNRAID keeps parity for this, but i have never had to use it. Consequentially i have no idea how to do it. The GUI does not seem to have an option for it, so how do i do it? PS, i fully plan on upgrading to V6 as soon as i have got this sorted if that changed your action plan. And thanks for your time!
  14. hi RobJ, thanks for those tips re the BIOS, i will plug a screen in and do them next chance i get. I am seeing no read and write activity from drive 1 in the GUI, i can browse to teh files in teh directories but not use them. (say play a music file) what i have done to fix it? reseated cables set the 'config' as good and restarted the array cleared the config and reset the drives up and started the array, keeping parity cleared the config and reset the drives and started the array making new parity. i have done nothing else as i cant find a decent example to go buy, so if you can think of something else you want me to do, let me know. 15. Hi guys, we had a power outage the other day and little did i know that the UPS was kaput and dropped the server as soon as the power went out. ever since then drive 1 is 'red balling', i know , i can hear you say "yep the drive is stuffed" well no...... so i have did bit of goolging and reading here and found several things. check the SMART data. i did and its clean (the drive is virtually brand new WD 2tb RED) if you are sure everything is fine the set the tower as clean and restart. did that hour or so later red ball. i even went as far as killing the config and starting again. was green until parity stopped and blam red ball. So after bit more search i found another thread where drive 20 is doing the same thing, but nothing has been resolved. as part of that thread it as suggested to check all the connections, so i stopped the tower and checked all the connections to the drives (its only a small system 3 data, cache and parity) still have drive 1 as red ball. any ideas? (please be specific as i have little experience) attaching syslog and smart status report. System is running unraid 5.05 syslog.txt smart.txt
  16. Hi Andrew. Yes i can confirm that teh drive has 888 errors. your app worka treat!. PM'ing you now. Chris
  17. Hey all, loved the thought of this application so i brought it. I recently had an unexplained issue that shutdown the UNRAID due to the network port somehow going on the fritz. I am not sure it this app is going to help, but it is nice to quickly look at the UNRAID server. So here are my thoughts after 2 days or so. 1. the App is very pleasing to the eye. very clean and well setup. 2. It conveys a lot of information and yes you can control the UNRAID box to limited extent. 3. It does actually notify you if there is a problem..... i think...... so here is the interesting part. remember that unexplained outage i mentioned? the one about the network card, well more specifically the onboard NIC. Well it died, some how. SO I bung a PCIE NIC in and blam up comes UNRAID. (i suspect that it was up all along but nothing could talk to it. As i know next to stuff all regarding this .....) Anyway, i brought this app about the same time and i was doing a parity check on the UNRAID because of the unexpected shutdown. the app reported this plus the time remaining. cool. but then it reported errors on one of the drives and turned RED. very cool. I had to go out to work at that stage, several hours later i came back home and about 15mins after i get home the app pings me telling me that the drive has 888 errors. even cooler! So for all the people who have braved my ramblings up till now here is the interesting part, UNRAID reports no errors...... -=-=-=- snip -=-=-=- Parity is valid Last checked on Sat Jun 21 02:33:58 2014 EST (yesterday), finding 0 errors. Duration: unavailable (system reboot or log rotation) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- so i thought it might have just got stuck, i removed the connection in the app then shut it down. i started and reconnected it and it is still reporting one drive with 888 errros..... So all in all the app is great, esp if the author keeps working on it. for me defiantly worth the $4.99 AU. Chris.
  18. Ok, Here is the setup. Media-PC - static IP UNRaid Tower - static IP WD Mybook (eth connect version) - dymaic IP Laptop - static IP GB Ethernet switch in media closet GB Ethernet Switch in Study Internet provider modem Cisco EP3925 (gig eth port connected to switch in media closet I tried all the tests below with new cables and on each switch/router to see is something was broken Nothing was different from switch to switch/router The file i used was a 6GB mkv movies file. to narrow down the list of the culprits i first used a WD MYbook (it is the one with a Ethernet on it) from the WDMYBOOK copied using TerraCopy, to the Media-PC 30-32MB/s - Verify of that same file with TC ran at 46MB/s to the laptop 5.8MB/s (with static IP same) I then copied the file to the WDMYBOOK from the Media-PC only getting 17-19MB/s and verify at 13MB/s so, I then copied the same file (but the one on the UNRaid box) From the UNRaid tower /SHARE/ to the laptop 8-9.5MB/s From the UNRaid tower /DISK/ to the laptop same. From the UnRaid tower /SHARE/ to the Media-PC 35-40MB/s From the UNRaid tower /Disk/ to the Media-PC same Getting a little frustrated at this point as the problem has disappeared, so i put back everything EXACTLY as it was (ok, i am coming out. I have a label-er and i like it! everything gets labeled!) Try and recreate the problem and its back up to 30-40MB/s. Now any sane person would quit while they were ahead and go grab a coldie and watch the olympics, but nooooo, no me. I pulled it all apart again and started over. New CAT6 cables all over, neatly tied up and separated from power. The wife thought i had gone mad, muttering to myself and throwing cables over my shoulder as i disassembled the media closet. What do i get for my efforts, other than a nice neat media closet (which is kinda cool on it own) ZIP! So is 30-40MB/s read speed acceptable, i am l thinking not.
  19. ok, I brought home a better GB switch from work for the weekend, i will try that in there. then i will try replacing the old network leads with new ones and see what i get. Also another thing i should have mentioned at the start the server has a static IP. thanks!
  20. I just realised that this is in the wrong section, sorry! Mods please feel free to move it.
  21. Hi Jonathanm, Thanks for taking the time to respond! Actually i tested the READ from the server with TerraCopy both wired and wireless, and the wireless was 8MBs. But i can understand why you would ask that! I have just done the following test with TerraCopy Laptop (wired) from tower 9.5MBs Media center (wired) from tower jumping around between 9.5 - 30MB/s laptop to media center 10MB/s So the laptop is a problem, will have to address that, but it still does not explain the transfer rates from the Array to the media center dropping off enough for TerraCopy to display a speed change down to 9.5. (it drops down to 9.5 for about 30 seconds) I will go out and get some new CAT6 cables and install them tonight a see what i get. Any other ideas? Are there any other reports i can run after a copy from the media center (connection that is intermittent ) that will give us some more info? (just so we are clear my current network is all hardwired and is running Gigabit switches. I have wireless but i am hardwired for this, and wireless is disabled on the laptop.) Again thanks for your time.
  22. Hi Guys, I have been running Unraid 5beta 12 since it came out, with no real compalints, until now. And to be honest it has me stumped, the transfer rates on my system have dropped through the floor. the only thing I have done to the system (only today) is enable NTP to fix the time reporting and the slow down predates this. other than that it works so i leave it alone. Capacity is 60% on one drive and 70% on the other. I have read "to cache drive or not to cache drive" and several other threads but i cant seem to find a reason for the slowdown. I cant give you any "before" figures as i didnt bother to take any "it just worked" But now i cant stream a movie with out chopping etc. The server is a simple one PRO -licence 1 x 2tb parity drive 2 x 2tb data drives 1 x 500gb cache drive. Intel PCIE1gb nic card I run UNMENU and Simple features, plus the monthly parity check script. to give you some perspective: If i copy a 700mb video file FROM the server to my laptop (connected via a 1GB switch) i get 9.5MBs using terra copy if i write a file to the array i get 6MBs (to the share, so via the cache drive) If i move a file internally (using Putty and then MC) i get 30MBs I also ran "TOP" while copying the file from the box and the most it got to was 3% cpu and mem was the same. 23. [sOLVED] You are the Man! used VI to edit the file (must have opened it with notepad or wordpad at some stage) and now its working perfectly! thanks!
  24. Ok i did a bit of digging in the unmenu.conf file and found that the base page to load is Http://"myhost":"myport". So I tried all teh combinations, ie http://192.168.xx.xx and http://"myhost" (where xx.xx and "my host" are my ip and host set in the unmenu.conf file.) but i am still getting nothing returing from that address. Anything else i can check? Hi guys, with a bit more digging i found the following. -------start Sep 11 08:08:52 tower emhttp: shcmd (25): cp /etc/exports- /etc/exports Sep 11 08:08:52 tower emhttp: Start SMB... Not surprising as i had allready run teh command ./uu command. But what did surprise me is that this log is DIRECTLY after a reboot. After another reboot (just to be sure) i am still not able to get to unmenu on either http://tower:90 or :8080 Also i checked the syslog and there are no errors So not really sure what to do now.
