  1. Thanks, I'll do those steps to add the drive back in. The drives old, as are most of my drives.
  2. One of my drives under the Main tab has a Red X and says drive is disabled, contents emulated. When i click on the drive through it says mounted and my SMART status is PASSED. I didn't make any configuration changes when this happened. I simply did a safe shutdown, then booted the server back up and the drive went into this state. I don't know how to get it out and back into normal state. I thought the drive had failed as it is old, but as the SMART scan is passed, I'm confused.
  3. I"m going to try out nextcloud as it has ios app support. If that doesn't work i'll try owncloud.
  4. I was really wanting a dropbox docker. Hopefully there will be a work around for this. Looks like they changed things sometime last night.
  5. Yea this just happened to be bad cables. The case was large enough that I didn’t have to bend the cables to get them into the controller or drives. I took these cables out of an old server so they must have been bad or reverse breakout.
  6. I bought new cables and it worked. So I’ve upgraded back to p20 firmware and it’s working fine.
  7. So my windows 10 machine doesn’t read the drives either. I was told in other forums that firmware 20 doesn’t work in Linux and I should downgrade to 16. So I downgraded to 16 and still no luck. I’ve got new cables coming Monday. Any other ideas?
  8. That’s what I was thinking of doing. I’m new to unraid so not sure how full fledged the command line is and if I can download additional packages. It didn’t seem like apt or zypper was installed. Forgot to check yum.
  9. A feature I’d like is to have multiple drive pools. Mom looking to setup a storage drive pool of my sata drives but then I also want a ‘performance’ drive pool made up of my 4 SSD drives. Right now I don’t see a way to do this but this would be helpful for those running vms and other more disk intensive activities. The multiple pools could also also help people who want different levels of protection of their data. Like no parity on one pool and parity on another.
  10. I haven’t heard of reverse breakout cables for sas to sata. These cables were used previously in a road setup on an lsi card. Granted that was 4-5 years ago. And have since been sitting in a box.
  11. I bought a new hba, lsi 9211-8i in IT mode on latest firmware 20. My computer sees the device but in the storage utility it doesn’t read any of my drives. The dries are older 3tb drives. I tried installing a fairly old 1tb drive that I know works and it still doesn’t see it. Any ideas? i haven’t tried changing out my breakout cable but I’d be surprised if both cables were bad. Unraid reads the card when checking dmesg and lspci but none of the drives.
  12. I'm looking to buy a new HBA card, for my system rebuild. I've heard a lot of good things about the LSI 9211-8i. It seems to fit all my needs in terms of SAS ports, price, and reliability. I was reading over on the Emby forums that people have had to downgrade the firmware from version p20 to p16 to make it work with Linux Ubuntu. I was wondering if Unraid had to do the same.
  13. Thanks, I guess I'll have to wait until my wifi bridge comes in to set it up then, as unraid doesn't support wifi cards.
  14. the machine i plan to install Unraid on doesnt' have a wired internet connection, at the moment. As unraid installs on a thumb drive can I plug it into another machine that does have a wired connection to perform the install, then move the thumb drive over to the other machine?
  15. Ah so enby docker can’t do gpu transcoding that good to know.
  16. I've got 2 vms running on ESXI. Is it possible to import the VMDK export of these vms from ESXI into unraid's KVM system?
  17. Well back on topic quickly the WiFi ac bridges I mentioned before are dirt cheap on eBay. Just picked up a new WD my ac for $35 shipped. From a comparison I read the WD does better through walls at a larger distance than the linksys but both are the same short range. Might buy 2 lol.
  18. lol yea exactly a dremel, drill, ductape and zipties, they'll all fit. Yea it's an older gpu, i figured it might not work. The 4470k would be the cheapest option, but the most boring. I then just wipe my Windows OS and do Unraid, with linux. If i don't use the supermicro setup I can always sell that to recoup some of the costs. Most the pasts are old and super cheap not, but the case I"m sure is still worth something.
  19. Ok so it's basically what I figured. I've just got so many ideas on how to do the setup, lol. Could also just repurpose my old gaming machine. Thats got an i7-4770k with 24gb of ram. Then I could use the old Nvidia 570ti(i think) for transcoding help. Right now i've got 8 3tb drives, then like 4 2tb drives I can get back once I pull my data off the old system. So storage won't be a problem for now, it'll just be fitting them all in a case, but thats where you can get creative.
  20. Getting a bit more off topic now, but do you really need a raid controller if you're using UnRaid? As unraid handles the drives, I just need to make them visible to it, so a Sata expansion PCI card should be enough, Or do you utilize a raid card as they tend to have better performance and just make each drive it's own JBOD to pass them through? I've been out of the hardware game for a while now, lol.
  21. I've heard mixed things on those. I did look at Coax to ethernet adaptors but I don't have coax running nearby.
  22. I used to use plex a couple years ago and had issues with it. Emby as far as I know from talking with friends offers all the features of plex. It can optimize(though I don't use it) download files to devices, handle streaming TV input etc. I like it mainly because it doesn't require a my server/users to be registered with plex, it's all self contained. When i used plex years ago it had lots of issues with playback and wouldn't see all my files, I had around 25,000 tv episodes and it would only show 18,000 or so. So i gave up and switched. This was maybe 3-4 years ago. I've heard it's gotten a lot better since then. I'll check out the 2670 procs. I was looking at the 2011 sockets before as they seemed to be a good middle with price, power, and performance. A big concern was ram. I'm not sure how much i'll need. I used to use FreeNas and they'd recommend a min of 6GB plus 1GB for each TB of storage. Last system was 72gb of ram with Dual E5620.
  23. I was thinking of doing something like that too. I've done wiring in the past. But the power outlets don't line up. It's not directly below it's delow and around 5-10 ft over with another wall. There's no outlet on that wall so it wouldn't be a simple drop down. I might be able to run a cable over to one that I can drop down. Yea the MB is old, it's running Dual Xeon 5355. The power is a concern, but I don't think I've got anything else close performance wise. Only other machine's I've got are old AMDs or old Dell 1850. If I was to go with internals would would you guys recommend spec wise? It'll be running 8-10 3tb drives used as a torrent server, and media streaming(emby). I do have a 16bay Rackable systems(r06530) but thats also old and going to be a powerhog.
  24. I used to have ubiquity wifi throughout my old place. There stuff is great, just might be out of the price range for me right now. My current setup R710, Dell powervault is shared with a friend of mine, and he's since decided to boot me off, and just give me the bits of hardware that are mine. So having to buy hardware to get back up and running. The server i'm probably going to be using is my old Supermicro X7DAE MB with Supermicro 825 case, with 32gb of ram. The MB has dual Gig nics which i'll utilize. If needed I'll add an additional nic or 2 through PCI.
  25. The router would be in the living room, and the server would be in the laundry room, almost directly below it. So yea I would lose a good bit of that bandwidth due to the floor. But I figure If I buy an AC bridge i'd be better off than a G bridge. If the house wasn't a rental, i'd just drill a hole and run the wire. AC1600 is 16x4 which according to netgears site is 300(2.4Ghz)+1300(5Ghz) Mbps speeds
