  1. Also, as a precaution, should I copy as much data as possible off of disk2 to an external drive?
  2. I've done some searching on the "trust parity" option and there are posts saying that it does not work on v5.0 and later. Is that true? Most of the threads I found are 2+ years old...
  3. Ok, I'm hoping that there's a way to recover this mess as I screwed up and did not do a backup... I am running v5.0. I don't fully understand why a backup of the config is needed. Shouldn't replacing the old parity drive put the system exactly as it was? Or is it not that simple? Based on the lack of a backup and that I'm running v5.0, is my only approach the method you mentioned here: I really appreciate all the help. I will post the syslog tonight when I'm home after work. Thanks, Dave
  4. Hi guys, I thought I had done my research prior to what I'm about to explain, but I might have done something out of order. Here goes: 1) My disk2 had been getting errors in the webGUI and was marked FAILED as SMART overall health. My parity and disk2 were both 2TB drives. Parity has had zero errors since the beginning. 2) I bought new WD 3TB drives with the intention of increasing space since I was replacing drives. 3) I precleared the first 3TB drive, stopped the array, and assigned the 3TB to parity. 4) Parity was re-built 5) This morning, I started the parity check. The check is currently at about 25% and shows that 1700+ errors have been corrected. This is concerning to me as I'm not sure if what is being corrected is "right" since disk2 already had errors. My question is: -- Did I screw up by replacing the parity drive BEFORE replacing disk2? If that's the case, am I required to buy a 2TB drive to replace it since my parity is 2TB? I currently have the original 2TB parity disk unassigned and the array has not been written to during this entire process. Thanks!!
  5. I actually ended up utilizing both the second and third option. I patched my 5.0 ESXi installation to fix the VM autostart issue and have Chrome RDP running on a Win7 VM. Also, after reading about crouton for Chromebooks, I installed Ubuntu 14.04. Within Ubuntu I was able to (not very easily) install VirtualBox. I now have a Windows XP virtual machine that I can boot to manage my vSphere Center. It ended up being a really round-a-bout way to do it, but it's been working great!
  6. Quick follow-up: I was able to apply the "autostart" patch to my server and all is well now.
  7. After some searching it appears that several users are reporting 5.1 and 5.5 both working great with their systems. I also came across a VMware blog post talking about the auto-start VM bug and that it has been patched. I am currently downloading the patch and will apply it this evening instead of upgrading the entire system. I have no other issues with 5.0 so this seems like the path of least resistance.
  8. Hi everyone, I'm looking for recommendations on what version of ESXi to upgrade my server to. I am currently running 5.0 but the auto-start VM bug has been causing me grief lately (mainly because I am planning to use a Windows VM to manage ESXi). Do you guys have a preferred version that I should look to install? In other words, should I go straight to 5.5 or are there any known issues? Thanks! Dave
  9. Got my new M1015 yesterday. Flashed it last night, re-added it to my VM, then figured up unRAID. Ran a parity check overnight and everything looks good!
  10. I'll be adding a fan... I have a single 160mm in the front of my small case. I'll just add a 80mm pointed at the heatsink of the card.
  11. Has anyone figured out a way to manage their ESXi setup from a Chromebook? It looks like the vSphere Web Client is really slick, but unfortunately not included with the free version. I've tried a couple Android apps without any luck as well. Thanks, Dave
  12. My M1015 died last week and I'm in need of a new one. Does anyone have one for sale? Would need it flashed to IT Mode. Thanks! Dave
  13. Great idea! I will try that tomorrow. Thanks Just placed the M1015 into another machine and it was marked "Not Present" in the BIOS. I guess the card died. Anyone have one for sale???
  14. Hi everyone, Recently I have been getting an error when trying to start my unRAID virtual machine. The error was something like Device Not Found with a physical address listed. I perused through the vmWare configuration settings and noticed that my M1015 was no longer listed as a passthrough device. Hmm, that's odd as it's still there.... So I went in to edit the settings and it turns out that it's no longer listed in the visible hardware. Very odd. So I shut down the server and go into the BIOS. Scroll over to the Configuration and view the PCIe information. Here's the problem: BIOS is showing Not Detected for my PCIe slot! I have triple-checked that hardware connections in the server and everything is connected properly. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'm lost and unfortunately do not have another M1015 to swap in and see if the hardware failed. Thanks! Dave
  15. I recently completed my mini-ITX server build and am looking to get rid of the following. Rosewill RSV-L4000 Rackmount Server Chassis $50 (pickup only in Chicago since it's so large) Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147155 Kingwin 3-in-2 Hot swap drive cage $40 Link: http://www.directron.com/kf3000bk.html Corsair VX450 450W PSU $30 Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003 I can get pictures if anyone is interested. All items are used, the chassis and drive bay are about 10 months old. The PSU is about 3 years old. Thanks! Dave
  16. Is there a way to make an image of the UNRAID USB stick without removing it from service? I'd like to get rid of PLOP on boot [and speed it up] but would like to avoid dismantling my setup. If not, I'll muck with it on Saturday.
  17. That would be stupendous. They were $119 a week or two ago, but I didn't want to jump right before BF.
  18. I'm hoping to see a 3TB WD Green internal for $99 (keyword: hoping).
  19. NIC: Get an Intel 1gig PCIe card. SATA: Monoprice.com has SIL3132 2-port cards for ~$15 each. Stepping up to 4-port cards cost just as much as 8-port cards so you might as well just skip that evolution. With your three PCIe slots, you can add three 2-port cards (6 add'l) or get an 8-port and a 2-port (10 add'l). The nice thing about the 2-port cards is that you buy them as you need them without dropping a lot of cash each time. Once you get to a huge array, expenses grow exponentially.
  20. I'm interested in this exact same topic as I want to pull out a drive in favor of a smaller count, higher capacity drive array. I have ~400GB on a 1TB drive that I need to distribute back onto the other 3 drives. I could manually move the files off, but that would take a significant amount of time...
