  1. I don't fully understand everything you've said here but I've just started a parity with the "write corrections" box unchecked. Funilly enough a scheduled parity check had just finished but of course the "write corrections" box was checked. When this has finished presumbly I need to run and extended SMART test on the drive in question again and then see if anything has changed? I think I'll be replacing the drive regardless, it's one of the oldest in my array, it's a WD green, and it's only 2TB. It's showing 66,900 hours of run time so I feel like I've had decent value out of it to be fair. Since it's a WD Green I can only assume that it lived a previous life in one of my other machines before I added it to my server, but I can't be sure, I don't tend to record the history of my drives.
  2. Thank, how would I try to get the count back to zero? What steps would I need to take?
  3. Hi. I got a warning message from unraid about one of my drives having a Current_Pending_Sector count of 2. I logged into the server and ran an exxtended SMART test and as soon as I started it I received another warning message tell me that the Current_Pending_Sector count on that drive was now 9. The test has finished and the count has remained at 9. I don't fully understand SMART reports but I think that Offline_Uncorrectable also needs to be looked at? This is 0. The extended SMART test did not come back as a fail - the info on that drive in unraid says "Last SMART test result: completed without error". Do I need to worry? Start planning to replace this drive maybe? Learn more about SMART reports? (I know the answer to the 3rd question already and I plan to do this.)
  4. Probably a stupid question, but I'm trying to get auto fan configured. The dropdown in the settings screen identifies 3 fan controllers on my system - how do I know which one to specify for auto fan to take control of?
  5. Hi, I've been trying to set up Ripper so that it encodes only to one format - I don't want MP3 and FLAC so I'm assuming that my ripping time per disk will decrease if I choose one rather than both. The instructions for how to do this earlier in this thread seem out of date - they refer to a line in the ripper.sh file which doesn't seem to exist. The instructions on github for controlling audio encoding options refer to making edits in abcde.conf and I cannot locate this file. Thanks in advance for any help.
  6. I just installed what I assume is the latest version of this plugin, I used the link in the first post. For some reason the plugin does not seem to start up, when I go into settings the plugin status is always "stopped". Any idea what I need to check first? I've changed the drop down to enabled, yes and I've tried several unraid restarts. Edit: Plugin version = 2.14.0 & unraid version = 6.2.4 Edit 2: Upgraded my unraid OS - now it works. (Or at least the bits of it that I need are working, there are still a couple of issues, but I think they have been addressed already in this thread so I can worry about it later. )
  7. So, trouble shooting this broken system is proving harder than I first thought. I wonder if anyone would like to offer suggestions... As I described above the motherboard was giving me no post beep and no display out. So I removed all power connections and all devices from the motherboard and tried to boot with only the cpu installed. I got an error beep this time and looking it up in the manual it was "no ram installed". So I put the ram back in and got a bad ram error beep. I tried each stick of ram individually in all slots and got error beeps everytime. I guessed that this meant motherboard problem but to be sure I ordered new ram. I installed it and it booted. I then powered down and closed up the case and attached network cable etc. Now when I boot I get cpu fan error. I've checked cabling and the fan is working and spinning up. Based on such a range of errors do you think its safe to assume that it is motherboard problem and just go buy new mb and new cpu?
  8. Great stuff, thanks, I thought it should be straight forward. Just one thing...what exactly do you mean by virtualisation features?
  9. Hi folks, so my unraid server stopped working last night. It was fine yesterday morning, but when I tried to access files in the evening the server was unresponsive. I tried the web gui and logging in via telnet and pinging the server, all got me nothing. All the fans were still up and the hard drive lights were all on. I had no choice but to kill the power and go a for a reboot, but still nothing. I've done some further work and testing and have noticed that there is no POST beep from the motherboard, and no display when I hooked up a monitor. Power still comes on and all the fans kick in, it just does nothing. I have tried another video card, still the same. Onyl things left to do are to check the RAM and the power supply, but I'm preparing for the worst and trying to plan for a faulty motherboard. If this is the case, is it pretty straightforward to swap out my motherboard? Will I need to do anything to my settings on my flash drive or will it just boot up and resume ok? What worries me is that I cannot access my current BIOS to make a note of any special settings that are turned on...will this be likely to cause me problems? Finally, if anyone has any advice of other things to check first, that would be appreciated. A work colleague has already suggested that I pull the video card and the RAM and then boot to see if an error code is produced or if there is still a deathly silence!! Thanks in advance for any help.
  10. Better late than never, but thanks with the help on this one...I finally got it sorted. Just one week after my previous post we bought a new house and the renovations have taken close to every waking hour up to now!! Thanks again for the help and support and apologies for taking so long to come back and say "thanks, your advice worked" !!!
  11. Brilliant thanks. There isn't a monitor hooked up but there's one nearby. This sounds like the simplest option so I'll give this a go over the weekend and report back to either mark the thread as solved or to ask further questions. Thanks to all for the help so far.
  12. Sounds perfectly logical, but I can't find any info about how to do this - nor is there an option in the webgui to reboot to safe mode. Is this something that I need to do from command line or is it maybe something controlled at bios level? Could you give me more info please? Thanks.
  13. That's where I thought it would be - but on my system this does not show up. The only options after clicking on a drive name from the main gui is spin down delay. Any thoughts?
  14. Hi, I recently added a new data drive - well, it's not new, it's my old parity drive from where I upgraded the size of that disk. When I access my unraid shares in windows, as well as my user shares I see the new disk listed as "disk4". None of my other disks are listed in this way...would someone be so kind as to tell me how to disable this behaviour please? I thought it was by clicking on the disk name in the web gui but this only gives me a spin down delay option. Thanks.
  15. Ok, thanks! And thanks again to everyone that's helped me out with this issue. Turned out it was a typo in Mylar that caused the issue!
  16. The problem is now fixed - thanks for all the help!! In the end I had to move all files (not very many) out of "books" and back into "Books" and then I deleted "books" and its all back to normal as I had some issues renaming a folder in MC, it seemed to be moving the folder rather than renaming it! Thanks again for the help.
  17. That ties in with what I was trying to explain earlier, I didn't ever create a share called "books", only one called "Books" so I don't know where "books" came from and if the .cfg file being missing means that I didn't configure the share then that would be correct as I never added this share in the first place. Could it be possible that the "books" share was created by an app called Mylar (kind of like sickbeard or couchpotato but for books) which I recently added. Maybe a lower/upper case typo on my part when entering a file path could have resulted in this odd kind of duplicated share behaviour? If this is the case I am maybe best transferring my files to a new share e.g. BooksNEW and then deleting the badly behaving share(s) when empty and then renaming BooksNEW to Books. Do you think this would work to tidy things back up again?
  18. That's useful - I didn't know that you couldn't delete a user share unless it was empty! However, the confusion continues as I just checked that dir config/shares and there is only Books.cfg. There is no file called books.cfg.
  19. Ok great thanks...but do I not need to be worried about the fact that when I change the properties of "books" it also applies the same changes to "Books"? Will deleting one not end up deleting the other?
  20. Ok so now I am really confused. The pre-clear is complete and my server is back up. A parity check started but for now I have just cancelled it. The share that I have been having problems with is called "Books" and it should have 5 subfolders. When I open it in MC it only has 4 subfolders. But there is a new share that I had not noticed before, I didn't create it, which is called "books" (with a lower case b). This has only one subfolder which is empty as it currently should be. When I browse my network I can see a share called "Books" with an upper case B but the contents of this folder appear to be the contents of the new share that is listed in MC and webgui with a lower case b. I'm scared to delete the new lower case b share as when I changed the properties (to set it to export-no) the other share changed its properties to match so it seems like they are linked. Any ideas about this? I'm thinking I should create a completely new share - copies all the files over and then delete the randomly behaving shares with the upper and lower case Books/books name and then rename my new share. Will that work or is that just ignoring a potential problem?
  21. Thanks - this is good to know, one less thing to worry about. I am 30% done on the final step of the pre-clear. Then I can reboot the server and resume the trouble shooting. Thanks again for all the help so far!
  22. Looks like I'm going to have to wait for the pre-clear to finish before I can do any further testing, when I logged into web gui and hit stop array, it got stuck in a cycle where a message was scrolling along the screen saying something like "retrying unmount user shares" so there was a problem even stopping the array. Now I cannot access the web gui any more. Screen is still active running my preclear so when this is done, I'll shut down the server and reboot and then report back. Thanks for help so far.
  23. I'm pretty sure it was stable. I tend not to really use the beta versions. Yes it's set for public access. All of my shares are. I have double checked this though and I also set it to private and switched it back to public just to be certain. Is it possible that this is just a glitch that will fix itself with a server reboot? Should I try this once the preclear has finished doing its thing?
