Intel Optane drives for ZFS Subpool
Hi, sorry for the delay, and thanks for the info about the sub-pools. I'm not going to worry about them now until I read up more about them.

Intel Optane drives for ZFS Subpool
Hi, I have 4x 2TB Samsung EVO SATA SSD for my cache pool in a ZFS setup. (total avaible space 5.7tb) I have an extra Intel Optane P900 400gb and another Intel Optane P1600X 56gb. Does adding one or both drives in a ZFS subpool make sense? Based on great feedback from a previous ZFS question, they might benefit either as a metadata or cache drive. Also, do the subpool drives increase longitivy on the main ZFS drives? If it only provides minimal improvement or saves SSD longevity over regular NVME drives, I'd rather save them for something that can take advantage of the Optane technology. I hope this all makes. 🙂 Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! David

ZFS special, logs, and cache drive options
Hi, could anyone tell me what the "special", "logs," and "cache" under the sub-pool drive options are when you create a ZFS Cache Pool? I tried searching Google but couldn't get an answer. Also, if I create a "cache" drive with NVMe drive, well that speed up a ZFS cache of SSDs? I have a ZFS raid of 4x2tb Samsung 870 SSDs. It gives me 3.7tb of usable space. Thanks! David

Is a i3-10100T enough CPU for Unraid
Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't know why Asus designed the Z590i like they did. It would of been better if I had a Z490i or B550i for a 10th gen processor. I currently am using my old I7-11700K that I had in my desktop before I upgraded. I want to replace it because I think it's overkill and wasting power. However, I don't think losing a slot will be an issue. The PCIe x16 slot is being used by a LSI card to connect my hard drives and the four onboard SATA slots for my SSD cache drives. I also purchased this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BDYJVQ18/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I hope this will allow me to use the M.2_2 slot for my 10GB SFP+ 4x PCIe card with a m.2 to PCI x4 adapter. I'm currently using this in the M.2_1 slot which will be disabled when I swap out the CPU. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C79YLD9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Also, is there a big difference between the I3-10105T and the I3-10100T. I purchased the I3-10105T. It appears to be a newer model with 8MB of L3 Cache instead of 6MB however still listed at 25W TDP and not 65W TDP like the non-T version. Thanks again to everyone for the help and suggestions. David

Is a i3-10100T enough CPU for Unraid
Hi, I'm looking at building a new Unraid server and want to use a low power as I can. I was looking at getting a i3-10100T or i5-10400t. Is this CPU power enough or do I need the regular 65W versions? I plan on running: LSI Controller for x6 HDDs x3 SSDs on the motherboard 1x SFP+ 10GB NIC Docker containers: Plex NextCloud PiHole No VMs I'll be using a Asus Z590i. I know it's overkill for a I3 but I was able to get a really good deal on it 🙂 Thanks for any suggestions on this CPU and if the 25-35W version of the 10th gen I3 or I5 will be able to handle this configuration. Cannot reboot with the USB Drive inserted
Hi, I am using the latest version of Unraid. For some reason, it will not reboot unless I remove the USB, go into the BIOS, put it back in the USB, and select "continue and restart". It does not matter if I plug the 16GB Sandisk USB drive in a USB 2.0 or 3.0 slot. This happens to me on both a Gigabyte X570 and an Asus Z590 motherboard. If any buddy could give me any ideas of what causes this, I'll be very grateful. Thank you! David

Not detecting drives on LAS card
It turned out to be the cables. Thanks for the link and suggestion!

Not detecting drives on LAS card
I was able to test the card on a X570 motherboard and modify the CMS settings in the BIOS. I was able to see the card POST and the hdd drives being detected. I ordered the cables from the link you sent me and hopefully that will help. Thanks again! David

Not detecting drives on LAS card
Ok, do you know what I need to do to get Unraid to detect the drives or it will not be possible? Thanks again for help. David

Not detecting drives on LAS card
I think I found the issue. The Intel® 500 series chipset does not support UEFI VBIOS graphic card, hence the integrated graphics mode does not support legacy boot and CSM option becomes non-configurable. Dos the BIOS card have to be in legacy mode? The issue is I'm using an ITX board so the only pcie slot is either a discrete graphics card or the LSI card. David

Not detecting drives on LAS card
Hi, I recently purchased a "9207-8i PCIE3.0 6Gbps HBA LSI FW:P20 IT Mode ZFS FreeNAS unRAID 2* SFF-8087 US" card to use with Unraid. After installing the card I added one 8TB Red Pro drive to with the breakout sata cables. I'm not seeing the card POST when turning on my server or see the 8TB drive in the BIOS or in Unraid. Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks in advance for any help I do see the card in "System Devices" Serial Attached SCSI controller: Broadcom / LSI SAS2308 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 (rev 05) I also have two 1 tb nvme drives that are on the motherboard. LSI 9205-8i or LSI 9207-8i for a PCIE 3.0x4 slot
Thanks for the reply! I have a slim Noctua NF-A12x15 fan that I think can fit right under it.

LSI 9205-8i or LSI 9207-8i for a PCIE 3.0x4 slot
Thanks for the reply. That's good to know about the heat. Is there the same heat issue with LSI 9205-8i? Also, I would put the controller on the last pcie slot. Could I put a 120mm fan on the bottom of the case and blow up on to it? Thanks again! David

LSI 9205-8i or LSI 9207-8i for a PCIE 3.0x4 slot
Hi, I have a motherboard with a open PCIE x16 running at PCIe 3.0 x4 speed. I'm not sure what if I should get the LSI 9205-8i or the LSI 9207-8i controller. The LSI 9205-8i runs at PCIe 2.0 x8 and the LSI 9207-8i x8. Both have the x8 slot. I would like to get the 9207-8i to be future proof but I'm not sure if I would have a better chance of the 9205-8i working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! David
