  1. well fuck... ill keep that in mind next time. ill keep working on this when i get another chance.
  2. alright got a new drive. and an external dock ready. i plug the drive into the dock just to make sure. it runs pretty well. i can make a new volume, didnt actually write anythign to it though, but i can at least see the drive. on the unraid pc though, im getting nothing. nada. I pretty sure its not the card, i dont think its the cables, it can run a 500 gb toshiba 2.5 drive fine. but its like when it comes to the bigger drives, im running into a wall. do i need idk a newer cable for this? maybe the power cable is built with an older standard? im kinda lost now. I'm getting a bad feeling that its my psu somehow short circuiting my drives. does evga g3 just run bad with 3.5 inch drives or something?
  3. Ive checked a couple quickly. But im gonna go through all of them with an external dock tonite to be sure. If the 12v and the 5 volt leads are reversed, wouldnt they fry every drive?actually, how would i even know if they are reversed in the first place? Im not making these cablea myself, they came with the evga g3 psu
  4. What sort of power failure are we thinking here? Shpuld i replace the cables or something?
  5. Update. I fear it may very well be the drives itself thats damaged. Im pretty sure the cables and the hba card and everything else should be fine. for some reason, my drives all seem to have suddenly died? I'll have to do re-tests on all of them, but i think i'm just gonna have to get new drives. If so, should I go with seagate or wd?
  6. might be a bit hard for me to get to the intenral cable, a lot of my cables come sleeved, and after that, they seem to only have a couple wire coming out, so im assuming each of those wires actually carry a few more smaller wires inside. I think i might have to go with the tape on this. though out of curiousity, this wont damage the drive will it?
  7. when you say cut the wire, you mean on the cable? how do i know which one it is?
  8. I heard using some kapton tape to coevr the 3rd pin would trick it or something? would that actually work?
  9. I plugged in a drive that is in use at the moment, so 99 percent certain it worth since there about 3 tb of files on there. and it showed up perfectly fine. Do i need need to use a drive that has a partition on there or something? i tried it with the gold and red with a new cable on power and sata and it didnt show up nor did a red.
  10. .. maybe it is the drive s? I pulled the gold 10 tb drive and connected directly to mobo. and its not showing up either? which is weird right? since it should be a new drive. could something in the bios be affecting these things?
  11. the array stopped too many devices message stopped now.
  12. im starting to think it might also be the card like you said. whe i reboot, and then go into the sas config utility and look at sas topology, its also blank The card came in a White box that looked legit. though, maybe its still fake like you said
  13. node804-na-diagnostics-20191002-0418.zip
  14. i got the pro, so it should not be a problem
  15. i got it form this link https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0085FT2JC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 you think it may be fake?
  16. alright. cables came in today, plugged them, should i just be able to see the drive automagically, or do i need to do another step first?
  17. Thank tou, cables should arrive in a couple days. hope it all goes well!
  18. I see this one (picking amazon, since price is fairly similar and i have prime) https://www.amazon.ca/Internal-SFF-8087-Forward-Breakout-Cable/dp/B0736MXQ3Q/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=forward%2Bsff-8087&qid=1569722917&s=gateway&sr=8-5&th=1 It says its forward so it should work right?
  19. I see a line that says IOMMU group 7:[1000:0087] 10:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller: Broadcom / LSI SAS2308 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 (rev 05) it sounds like what you are saying. While the 4 red drives are used, i bought them new. the gold drive was just opened before installing. I also noticed that at the bottom of the webpage, there is a line that says 'Array Stopped•too many devices'
  20. I'm using these right now, i think they seem right? https://www.amazon.ca/LiNKFOR-SFF-8087-Multi-Lane-Breakout-Internal/dp/B0728KRZYB/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Forward+SAS+SFF-8087&qid=1569641354&s=electronics&sr=1-3
  21. So I just built my new home server. I followed the unraid videos on setup and everything. The server boots up, gets all the way to the login. i can go on another computer and connect to it no problem. everything is super fast so far. Except for 1 slight hiccup. I have a 9207-8i card with 5 drives connect to it. at the moment, only these 5 drives+ the usb boot drive is connected to server. I cannot seem to be able to see drives in unraid at all. I did notice a dvd that came with the hba card, but i dont actually have a way to plug that into the server at the moment. do i need to install any drivers to make the hba card work with unraid and show the drives? or am i missing something else?
