  1. The 800watt is in and system is back up, all drives connected.. There are a lot of red errors in my syslog however, i'll start a new topic on that.
  2. Bought myself an 800W Silent Pro Gold.... Going to install shortly.
  3. Thanks this helps, I think I will mark my issue SOLVED... I -had- 6 green drives and a non-green one: 6x2 + 3 = 15 amps I added one drive to get: 7x2 + 3 = 17 amps Considering the message above AND the fact that I run into weird troubles I will assume it is likely I might be running into some sort of power issues (and if not: adding one more drive will so why not change now..) Thanks!
  4. Which is, if I understand you correctly, simply not enough for 8 green disks, right ? Guess I will need to invest in another one.. I read up and The Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 800W looks like it will keep me covered, correct ?
  5. Thanks, I connected the drives radomly, it could be alot are all on one connection..! parity check is running three more hours, i'll redo the power connectors immediately after that..
  6. Logging in as root is ok, make sure to set a password. HAve you allready installed UnMenu ? If so then install the ssmtp package and unread status email through package manager... Easy peasy...
  7. Removing the power connector did not help, utorrent is still loosing its connection... I guess the parity check might have to much impact on the system.. I'll reboot my unraid system as soon as the parity sync is completed. Streaming video also stutters immensly, is that to be expected during a parity check ?
  8. I have utorrent downloading from my pc towards the array and it has lost its network connection several times... Something is unstable.. I am thinking I might have a power issue... Could that be the case ? I have a 550 watt psu.. PSU is n Cooler Master Real Power 550 RS-550-ACLY http://www.silentpcreview.com/article259-page1.html I will be removing the power connector from the new drive to see if that will bring back stability, since the drive is no longer reachable I am taking a leap in assuming I can remove the power connector without powering down the array... Removing power from the new drive has not resulted in the array responding in some way, everything is still functioning.. Should the system now remain stable I am expecting a power issue.. Is that logical with this PSU ? And if so what PSU would you recommend ? I am expecting to add 4 more drives into this system ending up with 12 ..
  9. The preclear has halted, syslog shows: Mar 10 07:05:01 Tower kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sdg, sector 3907027392 Restarting does not work, preclear suggests I powercycle the drive (which means powercycling the system which is now undergoing the parity sync. I do not want to disturb the system and have no immediate need for the storage space, I will wait for the parity sync to finish and see if the system remains stable before I take further action. Could it be wise to not use preclear but have unraid do the preclear itself ? This because the array will be down then.. It would be a bother to have it down so long but I will be able to find a moment it is not -that- annoying..
  10. Nope.. Although that would be perfect explenation for it not beiing there ofcourse This morning the server is unresponsive. The unraid menu is no longer responding, shares are no longer responding and I can also no longer telnet into the system... Guess I do not have to think anymore about rebooting it.. System also no longer responding to a ping, looks like it thoroughly crashed... I'll reboot now and will then try and recover the syslog to post.. Quite worried actually.. Mmm.. syslog starts at the reboot I just did so that is not usefull to see what happened yesterday.. System is back up but I do see a lot of red lines and a parity check is running... Can someone please have a look at the syslog to help me understand what is going on ? I am running 4.7 with 6 2TB WD drives in the array (one as parity), and one cache drive of 750 gig. All western digital. One new 2TB drive (not counted in the above) is in the system since yesterday undergoing preclearing (started it again, it got until step 10 and halted on 4%. 4 devices are running on internal sata and 4 devices are on an Supermicro Add-on Card AOC-SASLP-MV8 which I have connected to the drives with 3ware Multilane - Seriele ATA / SAS kabel - 36-pins 4i Mini MultiLane - 7-pens seriele ATA I checked the boards info and the red errors I see occuring seem to correspond with another topic: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=10618.0 I also am preclearing at the moment. The disk I am preclearing is on the supermicro card. syslog.txt
  11. Hi, This afternoon I added a new drive to my system, it is now running pre-clear in a console window, all is going well. I however noticed that my unmenu pages were not loading, the primary page would load but underlying pages would only show an empty html tag. The unraid menu functions without a problem. I figured restarting unmenu might do the trick so I killed the process and tried to restart, unfortunately /boot does not appear to contain any files anymore so I cannot restart it. The flash share also does not show any files, this is especially weird since I also told the share to no longer be exported in the shares tab.. For some reason it is continuing to get displayed from my windows machine. All other shares function and I can access my data without a problem. What should I do ? Restarting will break the preclearing process, this is not that big of a problem but if possible I would like to avoid this. On the other hand I am not sure of what is now working and what is not.. So I might be in some kind of bigger issue underneath.. Anyone have any idea ? ADDED: RE-Applying the do not export setting from the unraid menu removes the share from view, re-exporting it makes it visible again but it is empty.
  12. Thanks for the info... To avoid doing manual disk copies... If I create a temporary share, move the data to it and then move it back to the MUSIC share (that now has split level that will make sure the files mostly end up on one disk right ? I could also use the "include disk" to include only one disk in the MUSIC share, right ?
  13. Hi, Before moving all my data to unraid from my WHS I created a number of User shares that now hold my data. I am very happy with unraid (4.7) performance. However I now notice that whenever I start Itunes allmost every disk spins up, this is the result of the moment I moved this data to the system (at a moment a lot of drives where equally full) and the split level of 2. I now realise that my "Music" user share needs a high splitlevel value to keep the files somewhat more together, I have therefor changed the splitlevel to "8". This will make sure more data will remain on one drive in the end. However at the moment I am stuck with my data distributed over all drives. What is the best way for me to redistribute the files ? Is there maybe (this would be nicest) an addon that can perform this ? If not, what route should I take ?

    WHS vs unRaid?

I am also coming from a WHS system and am very happy with it. I am using Genie timeline on the pc's and I use unraid as the storage facility to store the backups so I am not using the WHS at all any more. One thing I am missing is a torrent client (without using bubbaraid, I am not comfortable enough starting to use that), so I am running that from my pc at the moment.
