  1. After installing the latest Unraid version, I couldn't start the Plex container anymore. Initially, I thought it might be due to the settings, so I removed the graphics card ID (GUID) from the settings and saved it. However, the app disappeared suddenly, and even a re-installation didn't work. I can see that there are orphaned container images. Is there a way to recover the containers, or is there another method to reinstall Plex cleanly? Ideally, I'd like to get my "old" Plex back.

    Thank you for your help.

  2. Is there an option to control the FAN speed of my CPU watercooler?

    - Corsair H115i RGB Platinum

I see the Corsair H115i RGB Platinum in the VM settings, but when I activate it, I can't see it in Windows.

I installed also the libvirt hotplug plugin but nothing is happening.

The iCue software on my Windows VM doesn't detect the Corsair H115i RGB.

Does anyone have a similar setup?

If this is not feasible with Unraid. Can anyone recommend a hardware controller where I can control the CPU water cooler fans externally?

    Thanks!

  3. Hello,

I updated my UnRaid to the latest 6.9+ Version. I'm getting the following warning:

vfio-pci.ids or xen-pciback.hide found within syslinux.cfg. For best results on Unraid 6.9+, it is recommended to remove those methods of isolating devices for use within a VM and instead utilize the options within Tools - System Devices. See HERE for more details

What exactly do I have to deactivate so that I no longer receive this message? In the forums I find various information, but none of them helped me.

    Thank you!

Make sure Krusader is doing a 'Move' and not a 'Copy'!!!!!!!

Hi guys, I have 8 (two of them for parity)  disks and one shows SMART error. I have guarantee and want to send it for a replacement. How can I move or split the data from one disk to other 5 disks with data?

What happens if I stop the array and exclude this disk and take it away? Will unraid rebuild the data on the other disks which are left or do I have to add a new disk?

    Thanks!

That doesn't fit your given criteria, as it's a PCIe 2.0 card.

2 port PCIe 3.0 x1 cards have been reported to work, such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y92RDKH/ref=psdc_284718_t3_B07ST9CPND

5 port M.2 cards have also been reported to work, such as https://www.amazon.com/Internal-Non-Raid-Adapter-Desktop-Support/dp/B07T3RMFFT/ref=pd_sbs_147_3/140-7161017-3944644?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07T3RMFFT&pd_rd_r=84f3688b-e0bf-4c6f-9c4e-8c39590991fd&pd_rd_w=zNcnt&pd_rd_wg=8Z9Fk&pf_rd_p=7c0dad87-8a25-4c4f-9349-026039ea6cb3&pf_rd_r=RAV90H0GGEAF6CSFGNTS&psc=1&refRID=RAV90H0GGEAF6CSFGNTS

Stick with the JMicron chipsets and avoid Marvell for the best results

Thank you very much! Somehow I missed the 2.0 ...

    I will try this one -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y92RDKH/ref=psdc_284718_t3_B07ST9CPND

  6. I've been pretty busy for the past few days and I was also abroad.  I wanted to thank you for the many suggestions and the help.

The Unraid server is now running smoothly since Unraid 6.8.1 (NVIDIA BUILD). I am now also satisfied with the RTX 2070 gpu. A lockdown rarely happens, the last lockdown happened with Unraid 6.8.1 (NVIDIA BUILD)

At the beginning I had a lot of problems with my UNRAID Server and the main reason was that a RAM module was broken. Although all 4 modules were new, one was broken. I could only find out after a MEM TEST. The Mobo bios was also upgraded to the latest version.

The server takes over several tasks at the same time without issues. I can play FarCry 5 with max settings while 4 Plex transcoding are running. It could handle more transcoding, but I haven't tested it.

At high load, the inside of the case gets around 36° celsius warm. The hard drives have more or less the same temperature.

Below I have listed my setup if anyone is interested:

    - Plex Docker with GPU Passthrough (Nvidia P2000)

    - Tautulli Docker

    - SabNZB Docker

    - Radarr Docker

    - Sonarr Docker

    - Deluge Docker

    - Make MKV

    - Handbrake

    - Ombi

    - Upstatsboard

    - Filebot

    - Windows 10 (1909) VM with GPU Passthrough (Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Windforce OC) and one USB port is assigned for mice and keyboard - just for Gaming

    - Windows 19 (1909) VM without GPU Passthrough - Random work

    - Mac OS Catalina VM - Random Tests

I remember there was a patch but it was proven to be unreliable so it was removed in the subsequent rc.

If there's a new patch coming then LT is usually good with at least try including it in the next minor version.

@Mihael: You don't NEED a GPU for Unraid. It's just that NOT booting Unraid on a to-be-passed-through GPU reduces the chance of problems.

That's why I only picked motherboards that (a) have integrated GPU (mostly server boards) or (b) supports iGPU (if CPU supports it) or (c) allows users to pick any PCIe slot are primary GPU to boot with (usually Gigabyte).

Thanks testdasi. It's a bit confusing when I see a Displayport on my mainboard. Asus ROG Strix 570-E with Amd Ryzen 3700x... not sure if I have a GPU support now.

Anyway I sold my 5700XT and bought a Nvidia 2070 for a good price, it worked perfectly in the beginning but after a "force shutdown" I can't run it anymore... I posted the problem here ->

It's so disappointing when you watch those youtube videos of Linus & co how they build two gaming VMs on Unraid with two GPUs 2-3 years ago, and I can't make it run in 2019

So it looks like you need those syslinux entries.

i cannot look at that .zip file right now as I’m on a tablet. Have you tried swapping your Gus between VMs?

is this problem gpu also your unraid boot gpu? Have you tried including a rom file?

"So it looks like you need those syslinux entries."

It's because the USB-C connector on the GPU I guess...

"Have you tried swapping your Gus between VMs?"

I have just the one Windows Gaming VM, but I can try to swap the GPUs between the Plex Docker and the Windows VM.

"is this problem gpu also your unraid boot gpu?"

I guess so. I can see how unraid boots on my screen. I have a Displayport connector on my motherboard, but I don't know how to make that one as the Unraid GPU. I have to mention that I have a AMD Ryzen 3700x, as far as I know it doesn't have a GPU onboard, but the Asus mainboard has a Displayport connector.

"Have you tried including a rom file?"

No, but I will try to do that tomorrow after work.

Thanks a lot for your time!

Something else to try. Rather than rebooting the server, shut it down completely, remove the power cable for 2 minutes, then boot it back up.

in an old system, I had to do this to force a gpu to reset. Only a complete power removal would do it.

I shut it down completely and removed the power cable for 5 minutes... no help. As soon as I start the VM, log goes to 100% and can't connect the VM via remote desktop and no signal to the screen.

If I remove those syslinux entries and reboot the server, I get this message ->

    1075619130_Screenshot2019-12-08at22_08_49.png.7bd14cffb2957ed417288cbb69c1561a.png

I thought that this GPU reset is only necessary with AMD GPUs.

Do I need a third GPU for Unraid?

I see in the older Unraid tutorials that they add a third GPU. I use my second GPU for the Plex Docker and this works without any problems.

The VM works without any troubles if I start the VM with VNC instead of GPU passthrough...

If you pass through the USB and Serial controllers to the VM (check the ' other PCI devices' boxes), will it boot?

If you remove the USB and Serial controllers from your syslinux, will the VM boot?

Is there anything in the log file that's repeating over and over that causes it to fill so quickly?

"If you remove the USB and Serial controllers from your syslinux, will the VM boot?"

It didn't worked before, and I found this little tutorial

After adding those two "devices" to the syslinux it worked. But after an unfortunate "force shutdown" it doesn't work anymore.

I will try to remove and start without that or to check the other PCI devices boxes and let you know.

    Thanks.

Hello everybody, I am slowly despairing...

After I had problems getting the VM running with an AMD GPU (5700), I was able to swap it for a Nvidia (gigabyte geforce rtx 2070 gaming oc).

At the beginning, the VM was working properly and I was able to run the VM with GPU passthrough too and I tested a game and everything worked super smooth.

Unfortunately I did a force shutdown and I could not start the VM anymore and the log quickly went up to 100%. Extending the log from 128mb to 512mb does not help, as it quickly gets full after another VM startup. Only a server reboot helps to clear the log files.

Since the graphics card has an USB-C port, I've added the usb-c & serial bus controller ID to the syslinux config as recommended in a video.

As you can see in the picture, these 2 also appear in "Other PCI Devices"

Although I can attach the graphics card and the sound of the VM, but I can not start it anymore. The 4 attached CPU cores and log is running at 100%

    Does anyone have any idea?

In the second PCI-E slot, I have a P2000 passthrough to Plex docker and this works fine since weeks.

    Thanks!

  12. Hi there

I wanted to create a gaming vm and I bought the Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse on a BlackFriday deal. Unfortunately, I found this video only after I had the same problems ->

I read in the web that the problem has been fixed but unfortunately I can not find decent instructions how to apply this fix to Unraid.

Had someone already dealt with this?

I have to mention that I run the Radeon in the first PCIE slot and a Nividia P2000 in the second slot which is used for Plex Docker.

Do I need a third GPU for Unraid itself?  It's confusing, I read in many places that users have a GPU just for Unraid.

    My setup:

    Ryzen 3700x

    Asus ROG Strix x570-e

    Nvidia P2000

    Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse

    Thanks!

CPU might be going... damn... it's a brand new AMD Ryzen :)

    Thank you for your help.

  14. Fix Common Problems is reporting a Machine Check Events error:

Your server has detected hardware errors. You should install mcelog via the NerdPack plugin, post your diagnostics and ask for assistance on the unRaid forums. The output of mcelog (if installed) has been logged.

    I downloaded the diagnostics.

Can someone tell me what to do here?

Sounds like it could just be the normal write speed of parity.

    Have you tried Turbo Write?

    https://forums.unraid.net/topic/50397-turbo-write/

Yes, I did. It's installed. Do I have to change the settings?

That's pretty slow, especially if all drives are fast. Would it help if I would connect the HDDs to a PCI-E controller instead of motherboard? All 8 discs are connected to the Asus motherboard now.

I noticed that the first 3-5 seconds transfer rate is 500mb/s and then drops to a constant 25-50mb / s.

    Thank you!

  16. Hi guys,

This topic has been posted a couple of times, but a correct solution was not found.

I use 8 drives, 7 of them are ironwolf and one Toshiba x300, they are all fast disks. additionally I have 2 NVME SSD as cache in the Raid1.

I mainly use Unraid for Plex. I use the usual apps like radar, sonar, sabnzb etc.

I had Sabnzb set up so that he writes directly to the HDDs without cache, that I do not unnecessarily write on the SSD cache. Although I have a 1 gbit fiber line I noticed the sab never downloads over 20 mb/s.

I thought I would create a new share which is CACHE only and sabnzb should download and unzip the data there.

and what happens, the data is downloaded faster and unpacked way faster. Great!

But if I now copy the data from the cache to the discs with Krusader, I get a maximum transfer rate of 20-40 mb/s.

    MiB/s

Did someone have the same problem?

Can it be due to the different formats? The cache drives are btrfs and the disks in xfs.

But the direct download to the disks is slow.

This is very sad if even the download directly on the disks (hdds) is slow.

    Thank you for your help!
