February 2, 201115 yr I was trying to transfer data from one share to another within the server and suddenly the network shares disappeared and I couldn't access the internet. I unplugged and plugged my modem/router and everything came back. I am in the middle of a parity check and so far there are 576 sync errors. There are no errors yet on the disks themselves. What do I do now? syslog.txt
February 2, 201115 yr I noticed you have a LOT of the troubled Samsung F4 drives. Have you updated the firmware on ALL of them? If not, that's the source of your issues. See my signature for details. February 2, 201115 yr Author The firmware on each Samsung was updated back in December. I think the issue was caused by the router/modem.
February 2, 201115 yr A disconnected network connection will not cause Parity errors. It will abort the process of the data copy, but what data was copied will be written to both the data disk and the parity disk. They should always be in sync. Look elsewhere for the cause of your issue. When this parity sync finishes, run another parity sync and if it has any sync errors you have a larger issue.
February 2, 201115 yr Author I have noticed that disk 6 and parity disk are the only disks that have been written too today. Therefore that limits the problems to disk 6. The other disks have had no activity today.
February 2, 201115 yr When was the last time you had a full parity sync with no errors? Any disk written to between then and now is a likely candidate. It's also possible that other drives not even written to might have flaky cables thus returning different/random data when read at times causing the issue.
February 2, 201115 yr Author I use fill up allocation method and over the last three weeks all of my writes are limited to disk 6. I parity check about once a week. I last checked about 4 days ago. I never had any sync errors before. I think i did something that caused this. I have the xcase rm420 and therefore has one cable per 4 disks. These connect to a supermicro mv8.
February 3, 201115 yr Author I have finished my second parity check and no errors. Is there anything I should do now?
February 4, 201115 yr BRIT? Anyone? It should be OK. If you have not already done so it would probably be benefitial to run a memtest on the system overnight. If it completes without errors then run one last parity check just to make sure all is good to go.
