February 3, 201115 yr My laptop and Main PC both have gbit cards, as well as my Unraid. When I transfer data with my Windows 7 laptop I get speeds of around 15mbps. When I use my Main PC with Windows XP I get anywhere from 3-10mbps. What could the problem be? Took me about 45 minutes to transfer a 10gb file. Edit: laptop is now going up to 27mbps.
February 3, 201115 yr That's because Windows XP uses SMB and Windows 7 uses CIFS (or SMBv2) I believe. Network transfers on Vista/7 are much faster.

February 4, 201115 yr Author Is that 27MB/s or 27mbps? Does your router/switch have gigabit ports? It transfers at 27mb/s. And yes, everything is connected with a gigabit switch.
February 4, 201115 yr When I do a transfer I get 40 MB/s. I use a Hitachi 7K2000 as a parity as these hdds are very fast. What hdds are you using?

February 5, 201115 yr Author The write speed is affected if you use slower drives. Like I said, my laptop and PC were writing files to the SAME HD, at different times, so why would my laptop be faster and my PC be slower.

See my first post. yes, and after i asked, is there any type of software patch or something I can do, what if I transfer via DOS or something?
February 5, 201115 yr Are you running something else on the XP machine that does a lot of random reading and writing on the HDD, such as torrenting? The machine will have a hard time pulling data quickly enough off the HDD if another program is thrashing the drive. Peter
February 5, 201115 yr SMB is the protocol that windows xp uses to transfer, it's slower, and it has a lot more overhead than CIFS. That's just the way it is. There is no patch for this. Upgrade. You can try using TeraCopy, see if that helps.
February 6, 201115 yr I do agree with the others about upgrading though. W7 is the best Windows desktop OS ever released. Peter
