February 15, 201115 yr With the APC shutdown if it's set to 300 seconds does that mean it will start the shutdown at 300 seconds or just shut off? APCUPSD will start the shutdown if ANY of the following conditions are met. The conditions are Battery Level Remaining charge (default is set to start a shut-down when 10% charge remains) Run-Time Remaining (default is to shut down when 5 minutes run time remain) Total Seconds Outage (default is to begin a shut-down if an outage lasts 300 seconds) To shut down properly the "Clean powerdown" package MUST also be installed. It will terminate any processes holding disks busy, spin-up and then un-mount the disks, the stop the array before powering down the server. It can easily take several minutes for this sequence to occur. Just prior to stopping the array a command is sent to the APC UPS to tell it to shut itself down after a small delay to save its batteries (if configured as "Yes" to power down UPS.)
February 17, 201115 yr From what I understand I just need Apcupsd and Clean Powerdown installed to get UnRaid to shutdown due to APC UPS? Is Clean Powerdown same as Powerdown? Is there a step by step for what is needed and needs to be installed for UnRaid to shut itself down via APC UPS? I have found bits and peices here and there but never a guide. If anyone can point it to me It would be great!!

Basically, click on the download buttons for the two packages then the install buttons, then the re-install on reboot buttons. That's it. Joe L.

I would love to make a donation for your work on unmenu, is this possible? So the other question is do I need to plug the data cable into the UPS when the system is powered off, or can I plug the data cable in any time? Nevermind, I just remembered i need to power off my server anyways to move it so this shouldnt be an issue. I will plug it in before power up. THANKS!!!
February 20, 201115 yr I have installed the packages from unmenu and have the ups shutdown in place. Will this stop my crashplan service as well should I get a powercut? I understand the server will not shutdown cleanly if crashplan is still running thanks

I understand the server will not shutdown cleanly if crashplan is still running thanks If you have installed the powerdown package I think it will. I've never tests it, but the powerdown package will kill any processes holding disks busy. Only one way to find out, perform a controlled test. For the test, plug your server directly into a wall outlet, plug a lamp or two into the UPS, pull the power plug from the wall outlet to the UPS, simulating a power failure. Let it go through the shutdown process while you observe. Joe L.

It would be wise to plug the UPS into a switched outlet (power strip or similar) and switch the supply off to test it rather than just pulling the plug out of the wall. Some UPSs don't handle being unplugged while under load very well, they assume they will still have a valid ground reference connected when the power fails.
