February 16, 201115 yr Hi Everyone Currently I have Ubuntu 10.10 setup with 3 HDD's connected to my Mede8er multimedia player via wired LAN (NFS) and to all other pc's with wireless LAN. Firstly, I need to know if I can configure two NIC's (one wireless and one wired) in unRaid and can I access the unRaid server via wireless to copy data to it? Is it possible to FTP transfer wirelessly to unRaid server? Thanks farimir
February 16, 201115 yr UnRaid only supports the eth0 interface. It should be available on your wireless network via your router. FTP is enabled by default in version 4.7
February 16, 201115 yr Correct. NIC1 will be the only one set up and used by unRAID by default. You can set up NIC2 manually and use it, but using a wireless adapter is most likely out of the question as no wireless drivers built in.
February 16, 201115 yr Author Wow, thank you for the quick responses! It really is a pity as I wanted to give unRAID a go, but I cannot get a cable to the "server" at this time.
February 16, 201115 yr You could use an Ethernet to WIFI adapter. The performance will be very poor with data crossing the WIFI network twice.
February 17, 201115 yr what about : http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-XE102-Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B00008I9KJ
February 17, 201115 yr what about : http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-XE102-Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B00008I9KJ Get a 200Mbps version:http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Powerline-200-Adapter-Kit/dp/B0036R9YA6/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_2
February 17, 201115 yr Author Thanks for al the suggestions. I do not like the ethernet of power type things as the speeds are quite poor. People report that they get 3MB/s where I get at least 7MB/s on my wireless network. I was wondering if it will not work to connect the eth0 cable to an AP, something like this http://www.dbg.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=1_55_56&products_id=390 .
February 17, 201115 yr Just wet up a wireless router in Bridge mode close to your server and then connect the server to that via Ethernet. I had to do it once in a place that I lived and while the speeds were not as good as wired they sufficed for the situation.
