craig_read
Hi, I've searched on how to do this and there are a few posts, all the data on the drive appears to be intact and it passes SMART testing. I'm pretty confident it's ok but have a replacement on order anyway just in case that will arrive in a day or so. I've searched for how to re-enable the drive, but all the links appear to be broken e.g. https://wiki.lime-technology.com/Troubleshooting#Re-enable_the_drive I found this page; https://wiki.unraid.net/Replacing_a_Data_Drive But the link here doesn't work either.. "If you are here because you have a disabled drive, and you have already checked the syslog and SMART report (or got instruction from the unRAID forums), and are SURE that the drive is good, then you can use the procedures below to rebuild it onto itself (below, consider the 'old drive' to be the 'new drive'). There is a similar procedure just for this though -> Re-enable the drive." The link is https://wiki.unraid.net/index.php?title=Troubleshooting&action=edit&redlink=1 Can someone tell me the procedure to re-enable please or point me to a working link? Or any advice would be appreciated... Thanks Craig Quote Link to comment
craig_read
One more thing that I don't understand, the note says "contents emulated" and yet the file shares visible from my Windows machine don't see any of the data that's held on that drive at all. Parity is good. Have I missed something? Quote Link to comment

craig_read
I've got a whole bunch of problems at the moment and I can't seem to get anything to work properly. For example, I connected an external drive to the server via USB. It's brand new out the box. I want to copy all data from disk1 (the disk that is troublesome) to that drive (just in case). If I go to krusader (binhex-krusader) I can see disk1, I can see my unassigned drive, but the copy fails because I can't create folders on my usb disk. I thought maybe the drive wasn't formatted properly. I set Unassigned Devices to destructive mode, attempt to reformat the drive but I can't delete the existing partition it just errors out. I'm doing something wrong or something is very wrong here. I know my data is there becasue I can see it and download it from the server from Disk1 if I do it manually.. but I want to start copying off now just in case and I can't Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Check filesystem on disk1: https://wiki.unraid.net/Check_Disk_Filesystems#Checking_and_fixing_drives_in_the_webGui Remove -n flag or nothing will be done and if it asks for it use -L 1 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If the emulated disk is fixed after running xfs_repair and contents look correct, and only if that's true, you can rebuild on top by doing the follow: -stop array -unassign disk1 -start array -stop array -re-assign disk1 -start array to begin rebuild 1 Quote Link to comment

I did actually start there, hence this part which I got from the manual pages, specifically; https://wiki.unraid.net/Replacing_a_Data_Drive I saw this.. which was the answer to my problem... "If you are here because you have a disabled drive, and you have already checked the syslog and SMART report (or got instruction from the unRAID forums), and are SURE that the drive is good, then you can use the procedures below to rebuild it onto itself (below, consider the 'old drive' to be the 'new drive'). I did multiple searches on this forum and again many of the links were dead and just send me to Troubleshooting... so I wasn't able to find what I needed.. hence the post.. I did try.. I assure you.. itimpi
Strange you ended up there if you went via the Manual link. The section of the manual that describes replacing a disk is here under Storage Management. 1 Quote Link to comment
craig_read
I think I went fairly logically... I clicked manual bottom right on the main dashboard.. to here: https://wiki.unraid.net/Manual Then searched for "re-enable", saw something that talked about data drives which took me here: https://wiki.unraid.net/Replacing_a_Data_Drive Which to be fair looked like it would answer the question as it has this on it; "If you are here because you have a disabled drive, and you have already checked the syslog and SMART report (or got instruction from the unRAID forums), and are SURE that the drive is good, then you can use the procedures below to rebuild it onto itself (below, consider the 'old drive' to be the 'new drive'). Where the link is broken... it just sends me here https://wiki.unraid.net/Troubleshooting Anyway it doesn't matter it's sorted in the end... and thanks for the help! I found a lot of links in the forum to the problem too but most of those were dead as well, I can only assume the manual was re-organised recently and consequently some links no longer work. I do try to search for problems myself prior to going on forums, I do a lot of flight simulation and some of those forums are very unforgiving.... itimpi
It looks like there should be a recommendation to only use the Search option if you cannot find it without using the Search option. When you used the Search option it showed you an old wiki entry that is not part of the ‘Manual’ that Limetech are trying to maintain and update. Quote Link to comment
